Intra-luminal Thrombus Reduces Stress in the Aneurysm Wall: Fluid-Structure Interaction in Pulsatile Flow

  • Using computational fluid dynamics with the fluid-structure interaction, structural effects of intra-luminal thrombus were determined in thrombosed axisymmetric abdominal aorta aneurysm (AAA) models under pulsatile flow. Four different models, varying dilatations of the aneurysm and Young's moduli of intra-luminal thrombus, were defmed. Compared with unthrombosed AAA models, both von Mises stress and radial displacements in the aneurysm wall significantly decreased. Stiffer intra-luminal thrombus reduced von Mises stress in the aneUtysm wall. The present study supported that intra-luminal thrombus might reduce wall stress in the aneurysm.

  • European economic integration and geographical enlargement brought change in the intra-european trade flow and a trade structure. The first, an european enlargement contributes to the increase in intra-european trade, but its effect relatively becomes smaller successive enlargement. The second, the intra-industry trade increases in the intra-european trade according as an european economic integration and enlargement make possible the economy of scale. In the intra-industry trade, the horizontal intra-industry trade decreases and the vertical intra-industry trade increases. The third, the Western Europe's trade is generally an intra-industry trade, the trade of Southern Europe, Central and Eastern Europe is an inter-industry trade. But the South Europe's trade and Central and Eastern Europe's trade change from the inter-industry trade to the intra-industry trade.

The Relationship between Intra-Industry Trade and FDI: A Case of Machinery and Transport Equipment Trade between Korea and China (산업내 무역과 해외직접투자의 관계 : 한.중간 기계 및 운수장비 산업을 중심으로)

  • This study presents the pattern and determinants of intra-industry trade in Korea's machinery and transport equipment industry focusing the influence of foreign direct investment on intra-industry trade. Using an OLS regression model the determinants of intra-industry trade are investigated. Results indicate that a statistically significant negative relationship is found between intra-industry trade and foreign direct investment, and show that intra-industry trade is positively affected by the degree of product differentiation and export structure similarity. Intra-industry trade is also positively associated with the economies of scale, the level of trade barrier, and transportation costs, although this is not statistically significant. The study found strong evidence that the propensity of foreign direct investment toward export specialized industry makes the negative relationship between intra-industry trade and foreign direct investment.

  • This paper analyzes the specific product-basis trade structure between Busan and Japan using the recent 2000-2007 trade statistical data. Several specific product-basis trade structure tests such as intra-industry trade index and market comparative advantage index show that there are considerable differences in intra-industry trade structure between Busan and Japan. Furthermore, this paper found that Busan has high quality vertical intra-industry trade and horizontal intra-industry trade as well as low quality vertical intra-industry trade in trading with Japan. While Busan has the market comparative disadvantage in automobile-part products in Japan. This paper also examines the contribution to trade balance of Busan's exports and the movement of Busan's comparative advantage patterns in Japan. The comparative advantage appears to have overall stability and convergence properties using symmetric indices.

Structure Hierarchic of the Intra-East Asia Direct Investment Flows (동아시아 역내 직접투자 흐름의 계층성)

  • Since the mid 1980s, the emergence of the Newly Industrialized Countries has been the most remarkable mutation in the foreign direct investment. This emergence is creating the new international spacial flows constituted by the developed country, the newly industrialized country and the developing country. According to the active foreign direct investment of the Asia Newly Industrialized Countries (ANICs) into East Asia from the middle of the 1980s, the intra-East Asia direct investment flow has a observable structure hierarchic composed of Japan, ANICs, ASEAN and China. In the inflow of intra-East Asia direct investment, Japan and ANICs flows from the extra-developed country and Japan, AESAN from ANICs, Japan, and China from the ANICs. In the outflow, Japan flows relatively into the ANICs and ASEAN, ANICs into ASEAN and China, ASEAN and China into the ANICs. In conclusion, the emergence of ANICs and theirs role intermediate in the East Asian economy causes the intra-East Asia direct investment flows to make a hierarchical structure.

Effective hardware design for DCT-based Intra prediction encoder (DCT 기반 인트라 예측 인코더를 위한 효율적인 하드웨어 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed an effective hardware structure using DCT-based inra-prediction mode selection to reduce computational complexity caused by intra mode decision. In this hardware structure, the input block is transformed at first and then analyzed to determine its texture directional tendency. the complexity has solved by performing intra prediction in only predicted edge direction. $4{\times}4$ DCT is calculated in one cycle using Multitransform_PE and Inta_pred_PE calculates one prediction mode in two cycles. Experimental results show that the proposed Intra prediction encoding needs only 517 cycles for one macroblock encoding. This architecture improves the performance by about 17% than previous designs. For hardware implementation, the proposed intra prediction encoder is implemented using Verilog HDL and synthesized with Megnachip $0.18{\mu}m$ standard cell library. The synthesis results show that the proposed architecture can run at 125MHz.

A Fast Intra-Prediction Method in HEVC Using Rate-Distortion Estimation Based on Hadamard Transform

  • A fast intra-prediction method is proposed for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) using a fast intra-mode decision and fast coding unit (CU) size decision. HEVC supports very sophisticated intra modes and a recursive quadtree-based CU structure. To provide a high coding efficiency, the mode and CU size are selected in a rate-distortion optimized manner. This causes a high computational complexity in the encoder, and, for practical applications, the complexity should be significantly reduced. In this paper, among the many predefined modes, the intra-prediction mode is chosen without rate-distortion optimization processes, instead using the difference between the minimum and second minimum of the rate-distortion cost estimation based on the Hadamard transform. The experiment results show that the proposed method achieves a 49.04% reduction in the intra-prediction time and a 32.74% reduction in the total encoding time with a nearly similar coding performance to that of HEVC test model 2.1.

The Qualitative Trade Competitiveness of China in IT Industry: A Comparison to Korea and USA

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze the trade structure and competitiveness of China's information technology (IT) industry in comparison to that of Korea and the United States, particularly in terms of quality. Design/methodology/approach - Indices such as trade specialization index (TSI), Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), and Market Comparative Advantage (MCA) are used. Further, an Intra-industry Trade (IIT) index is used to analyze qualitative changes in horizontal intra-industry trade and intra-industry trade of high- and low-quality goods. Findings - China's IT industry has a comparative competitive advantage over that of Korea and the United States, and mainly exports goods of inferior quality and imports goods of superior quality. Further, China's horizontal intra-industry trade has been decreasing, while its vertical intra-industry trade has been increasing and vertical trade of inferior quality goods outweighs that of superior quality goods. This shows that China is rapidly catching up with Korea and the United States, even though its qualitative competitiveness has not significantly improved. Research limitations/implication - This study has academic and political implications, as it analyzes changes in China's IT trade competitiveness. However, it is somewhat limited as factors determining qualitative aspects has not been considered. Originality/value - Most studies aggregate analyses of export competitiveness using methodologies such as TSI, RCA, and market share. However, the focus of these methods is price competitiveness. Hence, an examination of the objective and qualitative trade competitiveness of China's IT industry is necessary. this study the trade structure and quantitative competitiveness of the industry by analyzing intra-industry trade focusing on the quality of competitiveness. Therefore, the changes in China's IT industry in the USA and Korea and in foreign trade competitiveness and quality competitiveness are clarified. The results show that the academic and policy implications of these changes in the IT industry will be a useful resource. This is the first study in Korea to attempt such an analysis. Immunomodulatory effect on chitosan against Fowl typhoid infection (가금티푸스 감염에 대한 키토산의 면역반응)

  • Chitosan is similar in structure to cellulose and are the second most abundant polysaccharides in nature, comprising the horny substance in the exoskeletons of crabs, shrimp and insects as well as fungi. This study was conducted to access the effect of immunomodulation responses of chitosan(N-acetyl-${\beta}$-D-glucosamine) chicken infected with in Fowl typhoid(Salmonella gallinarum). One-day-old broiler chicks were divided into eight groups: The 1st group was inoculated intra-peritoneally with chitosan and challenged intra-peritoneally with S. gallinarum. The 2nd group was inoculated intra-peritoneally with chitosan. The 3rd group was feeding with chitosan and intra-peritoneally inoculated with cyclophosphamide and challenged intra-peritoneally S. gallinarum. The 4th group was feeding with chitosan and intra-peritoneally with cyclophosphamide. The 5th group was feeding with chitosan and challenged intra-peritoneally with S. gallinarum. The 6th group was feeding with chitosan. The 7th group was challenged intra-peritoneally with S. gallinarum. The 8th group was nontreated-uninfected control group. The results shows that $CD4^+$, $CD8^+$ and B lymphocyte in lymphoid organs of chickens treated with chitosan increased in especially $CD4^+$, $CD8^+$ lymphocytes (p<0.05). The group of feeding chitosan showed the significantly increased $CD4^+$, $CD8^+$ and B lymphocyte than inoculated intra-peritoneally with chitosan. As the result suggests that the feeding of chitosan induced immunostimulatant effect than the inoculation intra-peritoeally of chitosan.
