Study on the Synthesis of the Binder for Antistatic Coating Applicable under High Voltage (고전압에 적용 가능한 대전방지 코팅제용 바인더의 합성에 관한 연구)

  • We conducted investigation on polymeric binders for anti-static coating agent which can maintain stability under the high-voltaic condition. Various polyesters composed of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polypropylene glycol (PPG) were synthesized and studied in term of the variation in the surface resistance of the film made from coating solution composed of a conductive polymer and these polyesters as a binder. We found that the surface resistance displayed $10^7{\sim}10^8{\Omega}/{\square}$ regardless of chemical composition of binders under the potential of 10 V. Whereas, the surface resistance surged to higher than $2{\times}10^{10}{\Omega}/{\square}$ when 1000 V was applied, rendering it improper for anti-static purpose. When 1,4 butanediol (BD) was incorporated into polyesters ([PEG]/[PPG]/[BD] = 25.0/67.5/7.5), the surface resistance showed $2.8{\times}10^9{\Omega}/{\square}$ under 1000 V, acceptable for anti-static application. These observations may indicate that the hydrophobic nature of BD makes a significant contribution to the surface resistance at a high positive potential.

Self-Diagnosis of Damage in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composites Using Electrical Residual Resistance Measurement (잉여 전기 저항 측정을 이용한 탄소 섬유 강화 복합재의 파손 측정)

  • The objective of this research was to develop a practical integrated approach using extracted features from electrical resistance measurements and coupled electromechanical models of damage, for in-situ damage detection and sensing in carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) composites. To achieve this objective, we introduced specific known damage (in terms of type, size, and location) into CFRP laminates and established quantitative relationships with the electrical resistance measurements. For processing of numerous measurement data, an autonomous data acquisition system was devised. We also established a specimen preparation procedure and a method for electrode setup. Coupon and panel CFRP laminate specimens with several known damage were tested. Coupon specimens with various sizes of artificial delaminations obtained by inserting Teflon film were manufactured and the resistance was measured. The measurement results showed that increase of delamination size led to increase of resistance implying that it is possible to sense the existence and size of delamination. A quasi-isotropic panel was manufactured and electrical resistance was measured. Then three different sizes of holes were drilled at a chosen location. The panel was prepared using the established procedures with six electrode connections on each side making a total of twenty-four electrodes. Vertical, horizontal, and diagonal pairs of electrodes were chosen and the resistance was measured. The measurement results showed the possibility of the established measurement system for an in-situ damage detection method for CFRP composite structures.

  • 기존의 한글에 대한 입술 애니메이션 방법은 음소의 입모양을 몇 개의 입모양으로 정의하고 이들을 보간하여 입술을 애니메이션하였다. 하지만 발음하는 동안의 실제 입술 움직임은 선형함수나 단순한 비선형함수가 아니기 때문에 보간방법에 의해 중간 움직임을 생성하는 방법으로는 음소의 입술 움직임을 효과적으로 생성할 수 없다. 또 이 방법은 동시조음도 고려하지 않아 음소들간에 변화하는 입술 움직임도 표현할 수 없었다. 본 논문에서는 동시조음을 고려하여 한글을 자연스럽게 발음하는 입술 애니메이션 방법을 제안한다. 비디오 카메라로 발음하는 동안의 음소의 움직임들을 측정하고 입술 움직임 제어 파라미터들을 추출한다. 각각의 제어 파라미터들은 L fqvist의 스피치 생성 제스처 이론(speech production gesture theory)을 이용하여 실제 음소의 입술 움직임에 근사한 움직임인 지배함수(dominance function)들로 정의되고 입술 움직임을 애니메이션할 때 사용된다. 또, 각 지배함수들은 혼합함수(blending function)와 반음절에 의한 한글 합성 규칙을 사용하여 결합하고 동시조음이 적용된 한글을 발음하게 된다. 따라서 스피치 생성 제스처 이론을 이용하여 입술 움직임 모델을 구현한 방법은 기존의 보간에 의해 중간 움직임을 생성한 방법보다 실제 움직임에 근사한 움직임을 생성하고 동시조음도 고려한 움직임을 보여준다.Abstract The existing lip animation method of Hangul classifies the shape of lips with a few shapes and implements the lip animation with interpolating them. However it doesn't represent natural lip animation because the function of the real motion of lips, during articulation, isn't linear or simple non-linear function. It doesn't also represent the motion of lips varying among phonemes because it doesn't consider coarticulation. In this paper we present a new coarticulation model for the natural lip animation of Hangul. Using two video cameras, we film the speaker's lips and extract the lip control parameters. Each lip control parameter is defined as dominance function by using L fqvist's speech production gesture theory. This dominance function approximates to the real lip animation of a phoneme during articulation of one and is used when lip animation is implemented. Each dominance function combines into blending function by using Hangul composition rule based on demi-syllable. Then the lip animation of our coarticulation model represents natural motion of lips. Therefore our coarticulation model approximates to real lip motion rather than the existing model and represents the natural lip motion considered coarticulation.

Effect of Support of Two-Dimensional Pt Nanoparticles/Titania on Catalytic Activity of CO Oxidation

  • Smart catalyst design though novel catalyst preparation methods can improve catalytic activity of transition metals on reducible oxide supports such as titania by enhancement of metal oxide interface effects. In this work, we investigated Pt nanoparticles/titania catalysts under CO oxidation reaction by using novel preparation methods in order to enhance its catalytic activity by optimizing metal oxide interface. Arc plasma deposition (APD) and metal impregnation techniques are employed to achieve Pt metal deposition on titania supports which are prepared by multi-target sputtering and Sol-gel techniques. In order to tailor metal-support interface for catalytic CO oxidation reaction, Pt nanoparticles and thin films are deposited in varying surface coverages on sputtered titania films using APD. To assess the role of oxide support at the interface, APD-Pt is deposited on sputtered and Sol-gel prepared titania films. Lastly, characteristics of APD-Pt process are compared with Pt impregnation technique. Our results show that activity of Pt nanoparticles is improved when supported over Sol-Gel prepared titania than sputtered titania film. It is suggested that this enhanced activity can be partly ascribed to a very rough titania surface with the higher free metal surface area and higher number of sites at the interface between the metal and the support. Also, APD-Pt shows superior catalytic activity under CO oxidation as compared to Pt impregnation on sputtered titania support. XPS results show that bulk oxide is formed on Pt when deposited through impregnation and has higher proportion of oxidized Pt in the form of $Pt^{2+/4+}$ oxidation states than Pt metal. APD-Pt shows, however, mild oxidation with large proportion of active Pt metal. APD-Pt also shows trend of increasing CO oxidation activity with number of shots. The activity continues to increase with surface coverage beyond 100%, thus suggesting a very rough and porous Pt films with higher active surface metal sites due to an increased surface area available for the reactant CO and $O_2$ molecules. The results suggest a novel approach for systematic investigation into metal oxide interface by rational catalysts design which can be extended to other metal-support systems in the future.

Effect of Type I Collagen on Hydroxyapatite and Tricalcium Phosphate Mixtures in Rat Calvarial Bony Defects

  • To repair bone defects in the oral and maxillofacial field, bone grafts including autografts, allografts, and artificial bone are used in clinical dentistry despite several disadvantages. The purpose of this study was to evaluate new bone formation and healing in rat calvarial bone defects using hydroxyapatite (HA, $Ca_{10}[PO_4]_6[OH]_2,\;Bongros^{(R)}$, Bio@ Co., KOREA) and tricalcium phosphate (${\beta}-TCP,\;Ca_3[PO_4]_2$, Sigma-Aldrich Co., USA) mixed at various ratios. Additionally, this study evaluated the effects of type I collagen (Rat tail, BD Biosciences Co., Sweden) as a basement membrane organic matrix. A total of twenty, 8-week-old, male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 250-300g, were divided equally into a control group (n=2) and nine experimental groups (n=2, each). Bilateral, standardized transosseous circular calvarial defects, 5.0 mm in diameter, were created. In each experimental group, the defect was filled with HA and TCP at a ratio of 100:0, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40, 50:50, 40:60, 30:70, 20:80, and 0:100 with or without type I collagen. Rats were sacrificed 4 and 8 weeks post-operation for radiographic (standardized plain film, Kodak Co., USA), histomorphologic (H&E [Hematoxylin and Eosin], MT [Masson Trichrome]), immunohistochemical staining (for BMP-2, -4, VEGF, and vWF), and elementary analysis (Atomic absorption spectrophotometer, Perkin Elmer AAnalyst $100^{(R)}$). As the HA proportion increased, denser radiopacity was seen in most groups at 4 and 8 weeks. In general radiopacity in type I collagen groups was greater than the non-collagen groups, especially in the 100% HA group at 8 weeks. No new bone formation was seen in calvarial defects in any group at 4 weeks. Bridging bone formation from the defect margin was marked at 8 weeks in most type I collagen groups. Although immunohistochemical findings with BMP-2, -4, and VEGF were not significantly different, marked vWF immunoreactivity was present. vWF staining was especially strong in endothelial cells in newly formed bone margins in the 100:0, 80:20, and 70:30 ratio type I collagen groups at 8 weeks. The calcium compositions from the elementary analysis were not statistically significant. Many types of artificial bone have been used as bone graft materials, but most of them can only be applied as an inorganic material. This study confirmed improved bony regeneration by adding organic type I collagen to inorganic HA and TCP mixtures. Therefore, these new artificial bone graft materials, which are under strict storage and distribution systems, will be suggested to be available to clinical dentistry demands.

Characterizations of Water-dispersed Biocellulose Nanofibers on the Skin Surface (피부 표면에서의 수분산 바이오셀룰로오스 미세섬유의 특성에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, water-dispersed biocellulose nanofibers (TC) were prepared via an oxidation reaction using 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidine-N-oxy radical (TEMPO) as a catalyst. The TC retained their unique structure in water as well as in emulsion. TC adhered to the skin surface while maintaining nanofibrous structures, providing inherent functions of biocellulose, such as high tensile strength and high water-holding capacity. When gelatin gels as model skin were coated with TC, the hardness representing the elasticity was increased by 20% compared to untreated gelatin gel because TC could tightly hold the gelatin structure. When porcine skin was treated with TC and TC-contained O/W emulsion, the initial water contact angles of TC were lower than other materials, and dramatically decreased over time as water penetrated the fibrous structure of the TC film. Characterization of TC on the skin surface offered insight into the function of nanofibers on the skin, which is important for their applications with respect to fiber-cosmetics.

Self-Curable Humidity-Sensitive Polyelectrolytes Attached to the Alumina Substrate for the Humidity Sensor and their Stability in Water (알루미나 기재에 부착된 습도센서용 자기 가교형 감습성 전해질 고분자의 내수성)

  • New cinnamate group-containing copolymers for a self-curable, humidity-sensitive polyelectrolyte and polymeric anchoring agents were prepared by copolymerization of [2-[(methacryloyloxy) ethyl]dimethyl]propyl ammonium bromide(MEPAB), methyl methacrylate(MMA), 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate(TMSPM) and 2-(cinnamoyloxy)ethyl methacrylate(CEMA). Photocrosslinkable copolymer composed of MEPAB/MMA/TMSPM/CEMA=70/20/0/10 were used for humidity-sensitive membrane, and those of 50/0/20/30 and 0/0/50/50 were used for polymeric anchoring agents. 3- (Triethoxysilyl)propyl cinnamate(TESPC) was also used as a surface-pretreating agent for the comparison of capability of attachment of polyelectrolyte to the electrode surface with polymeric photocurable silanecoupling agents. Pretreatment of the electrode substrate with anchoring agents was performed to form a cinnamate thin film on the electrode through covalent bonds. When the sensors were irradiated with UV light, the anchoring of a polyelectrolyte into the substrate was carried out via the [2$\pi$+2$\pi$] cycloaddition. The resulting sensors using polymeric anchoring agents and TESPC showed water durability with increase of resistance by 60~85%, which is corresponding to the reduction of 2.25~3.15%RH, after soaking in water for 24 h. They showed good hysteresis (-0.2%RH), response time (90 sec) and long-term stability at high temperature and humidity.

Atomic Layer Deposition Method for Polymeric Optical Waveguide Fabrication (원자층 증착 방법을 이용한 폴리머 광도파로 제작)

  • Research into optical signal processing using photonic integrated circuits (PICs) has been actively pursued in various fields, including optical communication, optical sensors, and quantum optics. Among the materials used in PIC fabrication, polymers have attracted significant interest due to their unique characteristics. To fabricate polymer-based PICs, establishing an accurate manufacturing process for the cross-sectional structure of an optical waveguide is crucial. For stable device performance and high yield in mass production, a process with high reproducibility and a wide tolerance for variation is necessary. This study proposes an efficient method for fabricating polymer optical-waveguide devices by introducing the atomic layer deposition (ALD) process. Compared to conventional photoresist or metal-film deposition methods, the ALD process enables more precise fabrication of the optical waveguide's core structure. Polyimide optical waveguides with a core size of 1.8 × 1.6 ㎛2 are fabricated using the ALD process, and their propagation losses are measured. Additionally, a multimode interference (MMI) optical-waveguide power-splitter device is fabricated and characterized. Throughout the fabrication, no cracking issues are observed in the etching-mask layer, the vertical profiles of the waveguide patterns are excellent, and the propagation loss is below 1.5 dB/cm. These results confirm that the ALD process is a suitable method for the mass production of high-quality polymer photonic devices.

Characteristics of Sintered Composites for $ZnO-{B_2}{O_3}-{SiO_2}-PbO$ Glass and $ZrB_2$Powders ($ZnO-{B_2}{O_3}-{SiO_2}-PbO$계 유리와 $ZrB_2$분말의 소결체의 특성)

  • Devitrifiable solder glass/$ZrB_2$ sintered composites were prepared by using glass with the composition of $60ZnO-20B_2O_3-10SiO_2-10PbO$(in wt%) and $ZrB_2$, powder as starting materials under the $N_2$atmosphere. $ZrB_2$which the good conduction materials showed sensitive oxidation characteristics, because some parts of the $ZrB_2$in specimens changed into the insulated phase of $ZrO_2$. These Phenomena would be estimated that it caused a few amount of residual oxygen in the furnace and/or specimens and the coordination number change of $B_2O_3$ in the glass. The sintering temperature and the mixed ratios of each phase were control of large ranged the resistivity ranged from 10 to 10$^{3}{\Omega}/cm^2$ orders, and to make a conductible microstructure. From these results, it would be explained that the conduction path of $ZrB_2$particles built up within sintered glass matrix.

Left to Right Ratio of Autopneumonectomy State in Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients (폐결핵 환자의 편측 전폐 파괴에 대한 좌우 비교)

  • Background: There are several causes that the total destruction of unilateral lung can occur. Pulmonary tuberculosis of these causes may lead to destruction through chronic inflammation and fibrosis. In such circumstances, the left to right ratio is supposed to be different. We performed the study with 224 cases for total destruction of unilateral lung, who were admitted at National Kongju Tuberculosis Hospital for recent 4 years. Method: On admission chest film, radiologic pattern was classified into 4 types. And we analyzed patients' age, sex, duration of illness, sputum AFB smear and culture. Result: 1) The male to female ratio was 2:1 and 74% of the patients were between 31 and 60 years of age. 2) One hundred and ninety eight cases(88%) had the duration of illness over 3 years. Namely, most of patients had long history. 3) Sputum AFB smear and/or culture were positive mostly (80%). 4) As for the radiologic pattern, 181 cases (81%) had the total destroyed lung in left and partial lesion in right lung, 31 cases (14%) total destroyed lung in right and partial lesion in left lung, 11 cases (5%) total destroyed lung in left only, and 1 case total destroyed lung in right only. 5) In the radiologic pattern, there is no significant difference in terms of age, sex, duration of illness and sputum examination. Conclusion: From these results, we found that the total destruction of unilateral lung in pulmonary tuberculosis occurred generally in the left side.
