  • Using finite elements, a simulation is prformed for the pipe systems to investigate free vibrational characteristics, that is natural frequencies, considering the intial tension due to the velocity and the pressure of the inside fluid flow. To confirm the program developed in this study, the results are compared with the results of commercial software ANSYS. When the initial tension is neglected in curved pipes, the natural frequencies are reduced as flow velocity increases, and the rapid decreases of the natural frequencies took place. However, when the initial tension is taken into account, the natural frequencies are not changed with the change of the flow velocity. In free vibrational simulation of pipe systems, it is necessary to calculate the initial state force due to the velocity and the pressure of the fluid flow from the equilibrium first, then the force should be included in the equation of motion of the systems to get more accurate natural frequencies.

  • This paper studies the behavior of mooring line of silt protector according to the change of sea level. It is found from the analysis of the behavior that if the taut cable length has been determined appropriately within the range of safety factor, the tensioned cable has almost constant tension regardless of the water depth. The whole structure, however, becomes unstable due to the loss (zero tension) of the released cable tension. It is also recognized from the investigation for the effect of intial straight line angle on the behavior of mooring line that the design through the conceptually combined consideration of the cable tension, total scope and buoy deflection has to be required in the mooring analysis. Finally, the material of cable is not damaged because the cable tension is reduced by attached shellfish, but the whole structure may be also unstable by the effect on the anchor angle, total scope and buoy deflection.

  • This paper consider an initially deformed state caused by the pressurized fluid flowing through the pipe at a constant velocity. When the initial forte is neglected in curved pipes, the natural frequencies are reduced as flow velocity increases. However, when the initial tension took into account, the natural frequencies are not changed with the change of the flow velocity. As the internal pipe pressure is increased the natural frequencies are also slightly increased. In free vibrational simulation of piping systems in petrochemical plants, it is necessary to calculate the initial state force due to the velocity and the pressure of the fluid flow from the equilibrium first, then the force should be included in the equation of motion of the systems to get more accurate natural frequencies. In this study, calculate the mass matrix and stiffness matrix of piping system by MATLAB

  • Mesh screen modeling and liquid propellant discharge simulation of surface tension tank were performed using commercial CFD software Flow-3d. $350{\times}2600$, $400{\times}3000$ and $510{\times}3600$ DTW mesh screen were modeled using macroscopic porous media model. Porosity, capillary pressure, and drag coefficient were assigned for each mesh screen model, and bubble point simulations were performed. The mesh screen model was validated with the experimental data. Based on the screen modeling, liquid propellant discharge simulation from PMD tank was performed. NTO was assigned as the liquid propellant, and void was set to flow into the tank inlet to achieve an initial volume flow rate of liquid propellant in $3{\times}10^{-3}g$ acceleration condition. The intial flow pressure drop through the mesh screen was approximately 270 Pa, and the pressure drop increased with time. Liquid propellant discharge was sustained until the flow pressure drop reached approximately 630 Pa, which was near the estimated bubble point value of the screen model.

  • The influence of steel fiber volume on the tension softening behavior in steel fiber-reinforced ultra high strength concrete was investigated. Three-point bending test (TPBT) with notched beams was performed and inverse analysis method by Uchida et al. was adopted to obtain the tension softening behaviors from the results of TPBT. It could be found that the intial stiffness was constant regardless of steel fiber volume, the increase of steel fiber volume fraction made the tensile strength higher, but all of the curves converged on an asymptote with a crack width. It was proposed the equation of softening curve expressed by combination of plastic behavior part and exponential descending behavior part considering the steel fiber volume fraction and $\omega_0$, which is corresponding to the maximum crack width of plastic area. Thereafter, the crack propagation analysis using finite element method with smeared crack model was also carried out and it was confirmed that the proposed equation had a good agreement with the experimental results.

  • Compared with a strong axial rigidity due to large intial tension, cable has a weak laterally flexural rigidity. A variety of dynamic loads such as traffic loads and wind loads etc. cause the cables to vibrate significantly and affect the mechanical properties and the performance of cables. Therefore, vibration reduction design is an urgent task to control the vibration of cable-supported bridges. Because a various kind of dampers have shown to reduce the amplitude and duration time of vibration of cable from measured date in field test, damper can be considered that it is effective device significantly to reduce the amplitude and duration time in vibration of cable. Vibration characteristics of cable can change according to manufacturing method and type of established form, and damper has been designed according to distribution of natural frequencies and vibration modes. In this study, numerical analysis is used to show the reduction effects of vibrations and present the design of damper for vibration reduction of cable.
