In February and April 1997, three temporary interruptions of electric power production at the Uljin Nuclear Power Plant in the east coast of Korea were caused by the malfunction of the cool-ing-water supply unit. The clogging of the drum screens inside the unit caused by the surface swarm of the euphausiid Euphausia pacifica Hansen might be responsible for the malfunction. These incidents were of particular interest since such interruption of reactors' operation by krill swarms had not previously been reported. Using samples caught by the drum screens inside the cooling water-supply unit, we investigated the population structure of surface swarms. One occasion of nighttime and three occasions of daytime surface swarms were found in February and April 1997, respectively. The foreguts of more than 60% of E. pacifica in nighttime surface swarm were in full condition. This evidence suggests that E. pacifica aggregates to the surface water at night for feeding. In daytime surface swarms consisting of mature E. pacifica, however, foreguts in full condition were only found in less than 10eio of krill examined, suggesting that daytime surface swarms are closely related to breeding activity. During the study period, the growth rate of mature females was more than twice higher than that of mature males. Analyses of the sex-ratio and length-frequency data show a decrease in the portion of males with increasing size. There was a decline in the number of males of 19 mm in length. Energy loss during spermatophore transfer may result in the death of male E. pacifica, as found in male E. superba.
The objective was to analyze the radiotherapy (RT) practice at the cancer centre of a tertiary academic medical institution in Delhi. This audit from an Indian public institution covered patient care processes related to cancer diagnosis, integration of RT with other anti-cancer modalities, waiting time, overall treatment time, and compliance with RT. Over a period of one year, all consecutively registered patients in radiotherapy were analyzed for the audit cycle. Analysis of 1,030 patients showed median age of 49.6 years, with presentation as stage I and II in 14.2%, stage III and IV in 71.2% and unknown stage in 14.6%. A total of 974 (95%) were advised for RT appointment; 669 (68.6%) for curative intent and 31.4% for palliation. Mean times for diagnostic workup and from registration at cancer centre to radiotherapy referral were 33 and 31 days respectively. Median waiting time to start of RT course was 41 days. Overall RT compliance was 75% and overall duration for a curative RT course ranged from 50 days to 61 days. Non-completion and interruption of RT course were observed in 12% and 13% respectively. Radiotherapy machine burden in a public cancer hospital in India increases the waiting time and 25% of advised patients do not comply with the prescribed treatment. Infrastructure, machine and manpower constraints lead to more patients being treated on cobalt (74%) and by two-dimensional (78%) techniques.
Most of Korean feed mill has a pregrind system which was suitable for the processing of less number of ingredients and finished products, and good for the mash type feed product. But industries has been changed in production volume and cost, and also from mash to further processed products such as pelleted and extruded. Therefore, Korea feed industries now should change the process, especially the grinding system from the current pregrind to other grind system, but this change will cost a lot of investment and also loosing current grinding system, and should have production shut down during the construction period. To solve these problems, combined grinding system based on a new model mill has been developed. The combined grind system is combination of pregrind and postgrind system, which has the advantages of those two grind systems, and also which can allow to utilize existing pregrind system continuously without any production interruption due to new postgrind system construction. This newly developed model has been applied to the feed mill expansion project of `B`feed company in 1994, and it was very successful application and showed excellent results as we intended. The new model mill, combined grind system applied can save fixed asset investment because old pregrind system can be used as is, and also can reduce production cost and improve product quality. And the possibility of critical production shut down can be much lowered. Within this new grinding model development, multi-screen combination system has been developed for the better grinding texture quality and safer operation. This new model mill with combined grind system will be applied by most feed manufacturing plant and may enhance their production competitiveness, and the further study and development should be continued.

Objectives: This study aims to identify dentists' opinions about the return to work of the dental hygienists with career interrupted. Convenience sampling was made of 22 dentists with the clinical experience (about 0.25%) of the 4,944 members of Gyeonggi-do Dental Association. Data were collected through an electronic survey using e-mails and telephone interviews and analyzed using the constant comparison method. Methods: Open coding was assigned to the initial data from the survey in an explicit language, and focusing on the types of their employment, working conditions, etc. Summarization and conceptualization were made of the second data in an implicit language. Results: Most of the dentists were found to have positive attitudes toward the return to work of career interrupted dental hygienists and hope to adjust their wages based on their job performance or after their probational period expires. Most of the dentists were found to have positive attitudes towards the hygienists' flexible working although their concerns about work efficiency and hospital atmosphere. This study is a qualitative study that describes dentists' opinions and presents the need for the career interrupted dental hygienists to return to work. Conclusions: The study proposed that the educational institutions should take into account the hygienists' opinions when implementing the programs for promoting their return to work and their evaluative studies.

Before (March 26, 1994) or after the occurrence of a downslope windstorm (March 29), the NO, $NO_2$, and $SO_2$ at the ground level of Kangnung city were monitored with high concentrations in the afternoon, due to a large amount of gases emitted from combustion of motor vehicle and heating apparatus, especially near 1600-1800 LST and 2000-2100 LST, but at night, they had low concentrations, resulting from small consumptions of vehicle and heating fuels. When both moderate westerly synoptic-scale winds flow over Mt. Taegwallyang and easterly meso-scale sea breeze during the day, atmospheric pollutants should be trapped by two different wind systems, resulting in higher concentration at Kangnung city in the afternoon. At night, the association of westerly synoptic wind and land breeze can produce relatively strong winds and the dissipation by the winds cause these low concentrations to lower and lower, as nightime goes on. From March 27 through 28, an enforced localized windstorm could be produced along the lee side of the mountain near Kangnung, generating westerly internal gravity waves with hydraulic jump motions. Sea breeze toward inland appartantly confines to the bottom of the eastern side of the mountain, due to the interruption of eastward violent internal gravity waves. As the windstorm moves down toward the ground, an encountering point of two opposite winds approaches Kangnung, and a great amount of NO and $NO_2$ were removed by the strong surface winds. Thus, their maximum concentrations are found to be near 18 and 20 LST, 17 and 21 LST. In the nighttime, the more developed storm should produce very strong surface winds and the NO and $NO_2$ could be easily dissipated into other place. The $SO_2$ concentration had no maximum value, that is, almost constant one all day long, due to its removal by the strong surface winds. Especially, the CO concentrations were slightly lower during the strom period than both before or after the strom, but they were nearly constant without much changes during the during the daytime and nighttime.
Standard combination chemotherapy including isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol is very effective against tuberculosis. But, these medicines can cause hepatotoxicity which is the main reason for treatment interruption or change in drug regimen. In order to identify risk factors associated with hepatotoxcity in Koreans and assess elevated baseline LFTs' contributions to hepatotoxicity, a retrospective case control study was performed. The medical records of 277 patients who diagnosed with tuberculosis at a community hospital from January 1st, 2007 to June 30th, 2010 were reviewed. Patients were categorized into 3 groups (non toxic group, patients without increase in LFT levels; mild to moderate hepatotoxic group and severe hepatotoxic group). And the correlation between risk factors and hepatotoxicity was analyzed by using SPSS program. The overall incidence of hepatotoxicity was 18% and 8.7% of patients developed severe toxicity. Patients in the severe toxic group had the longest treatment period among the three groups. In 75% of severe toxic group, hepatotoxicity occurred within 18.3 days after starting medication. Hypoalbuminemia (serum albumin <3 g/dl) was a significant risk factor for development of severe toxicity. Elevated baseline transaminase (except ALT), total bilirubin, and preexisting hepatitis were also risk factors which were more than twice as likely to increase risk of severe hepatotoxicity (p>0.05). In conclusion, hypoalbuminemia (serum albumin level <3 g/dl) was a significant risk factor for anti-tuberculosis druginduced severe toxicity. Therefore, before starting antituberculosis chemotherapy, serum albumin level should be assessed at baseline. In high-risk patients (hypoalbuminemia, elevated LFTs) for hepatotoxicty, liver function should be closely monitored up to at least 21 days after taking medication.
This is a report on a total of 11 cases of esophageal perforation in the department of thoracic surgery, Chonnam University Hospital during the period of 8 years from 1962 to 1969. They occurred by the following agents, that is,lye solution[7 cases], fish bone[2 cases]. compress air [one case], strong acid [one case]. The perforated portions of esophagus were cervical esophagus in 2 cases, upper third of esophagus in 5 cases, middle third of esophagus in 3 cases and lower third of esophagus [abdominal esophagus] in one case. 4 cases out of cases of esophageal perforation after ingestion of Lye solution were due to Bougination to improve esophageal stenosis: 2 cases occurred 2 months after ingestion of Lye solution and the remaining 2 cases, 2 to 3 weeks after Lye solution ingestion. Therefore, It is realized that Bougination for esephageal stricture by Lye solution is particularly dangerous. The complication after esophageal perforation were mediastinitis,[10 cases], right pyothorax with mediastinitis [8 cases], peritonitis [4 cases], esophago-bronchial fistula[one case]. Owing to the various complications above mentioned, surgical approach to esophageal perforation is accordingly complicated and a combination of more than two of the following different procedures were properly used case by case, that is. gastrostomy or jejunostomy for feeding and esophageal rest, thoracotomy and chest drainage, lung decortication for pyothorax, primary closure of compress air perforation and esophago-bronchial fistula, mediastinostomy, retrosternal esophagoplasty using right colon to Lye stricture etc. 5 cases[45. 5%] of 11 cases were expired and the rest of 6 cases[54.5%]were survived with complete accomplishment of surgical procedures and satisfactory healing in 4 cases and interruption of follow up in 2 cases because of poor economical condition of the patients.
Between March 1989 and December 1994, one-stage repair was performed for correction of the intracardiac malformations associated with aortic coarctation in 34 patients or interrupted aortic arch in 8 patients via median sternotomy. There were 26 male and 16 female patients, and their body weight ranged from 1.8 to 8kg[mean weight, 4.0$\pm$l.4kg . The age at the operation ranged from 7 days to 18 months [mean age, 3.1$\pm$3.8 months . The repair of aortic coarctation or interrupted aortic arch was performed using extended end-to-end anastomosis in most of the patients[86%, 36/42 , and six patients underwent ductal tissue excision and patch aortoplasty. Intracardiac defects were corrected concomitantly through the right atrium unless the anatomy dictated otherwise. Obstructive outlet septurn was resected whenever necessary. There were seven early deaths[16.8% , and three late deaths with a mean follow-up period of 25 months [range from 1 to 65 months . Three patients were reoperated upon residual subaortic stenosis, stenosis at the RPA origin, and subacute bacterial endocarditis respectively. None showed any significant residual or anastomotic stenosis postoperatively. One stage repair of the aortic coarctation and interrupted aortic arch associated with intracardiac defect leaves no native coarctation shelf tissue or residual hypoplasia in the repaired segment, has low incidence of recurrent or residual stenosis, minimizes reoperation and incisions, and manages arch hypoplasia easily. We conclude that surgical results of one-stage repair for the intracardiac malformation associated with aortic coarctation or interrupted aortic arch are resonable.
The vitamin K antagonist (VKA), cumadin, or warfarin, is the only antithrombotic drug that can be orally administered and has excellent effective for decades. However, it is cumbersome to periodically inspect the prothrombin time (PT) order to maintain adequate concentrations that do not cause bleeding, takes a few days to indicate therapeutic effects, gets affected by several factors such as food and drugs etc, and narrow in the therapeutic range. Although recently in development, the non-vitamin K antagonist anticoagulants(NOACs) exhibit a rapid onset of action and have relatively short half- lives compared to Coumadin. Because of these pharmacokinetic properties, it is possible to modify an individual's anticoagulation status quite rapidly, minimizing the period where the anticoagulation activity is therapeutically suboptimal. And the short half -lives of these drug allow for the relatively rapid reduction of their anticoagulation effects. There are currently no published clinical trials specifically assessing the bleeding risks associated with dental procedures for patients taking the NOACs. It is not necessary to interrupt NOAC medication for dental procedures that are likely to cause bleeding, but which have a low risk of bleeding complications. Because the bleeding risk for these procedures is considered to be low, the balance of effects is in favour of continuing the NOAC treatment without modification, to avoid increasing the risk of a thromboembolic event. The patients should be advised to miss(apixaban or dabigatran) or delay(rivaroxaban) a dose of their NOAC prior to dental procedures that are likely to cause bleeding and which have a higher risk of bleeding complications. Because the risk of bleeding complications for these procedures is considered to be higher, the balance effects is in favour of missing or delaying the pretreatment NOAC dose. The interruption is only for a short time to minimize the effect on thromboembolic risk.
Incandescent (INC) lamps have been commonly used to promote flowering of long-day (LD) plants during short-day (SD) seasons, but production of INC lamps has been prohibited due to their low energy efficiency. One of the light sources replacing INC lamps is a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL). This study was carried out to compare the flowering and morphological responses of LD annuals grown in a controlled environment greenhouse at $20^{\circ}C$ with a truncated 9-h SD and a 2- or 4-h night interruption (NI) or 6-h day extension (DE) provided by lighting from INC lamps, CFLs, or a combination of the two (INC + CFLs), in which red (R) to far-red (FR) ratios were 0.60, 8.46, and 0.91, respectively, and their PPFDs were $2.3{\pm}0.3{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$. After 12 weeks of treatment, $Petunia{\times}hybrida$ 'Wave Purple' plants did not flower under the SD photoperiod whereas 100% flowered under all of the LD treatments. Flowering was more rapid under the INC or INC + CFL lighting treatments compared to CFL and DE, and 4-h NI enhanced flowering compared to 2-h NI. In addition, plants under DE and 4h-NI generally flowered earlier than under 2-h NI. All petunia 'Single Dreams Red' plants flowered within 65 days after treatment, and flowering was hastened by some LD lighting regimens and lamp types. Plants under DE and 4h-NI generally flowered earlier than under 2-h NI INC or INC + CFL compared to FL, and flowering time under INC 6-h DE was earliest. In addition, INC lighting promoted stem elongation of both petunia cultivars. In both pansy (Viola${\times}wittrockiana$) 'Coiossus Yellow' and 'Delta Blue Blotch', LD treatments, especially using INC lamps, promoted flowering whereas the lighting period had little influence on days to flowering. Therefore, INC or INC + CFL with lower R:FR promoted flowering and stem extension and the promoting effect was larger with longer lighting periods. These results suggest that CFLs can be used to provide LDs to promote the flowering of petunia and pansy and to reduce stem elongation, although the promoting effect on flowering is sometimes less than that of INC lamps alone.
