  • In this paper, an efficient algorithm is proposed for the interpolation of interlaced images. First of all, by efficiently estimating the directional spatial correlations of neighboring pixels, increased interpolation accuracy can be achieved. And then using the gradient vector which was obtained by Sobel operation, enables to consider the fine directional edges and make it possible to estimate the accurate direction of edges. In other words, it is possible to interpolate the interlaced images with considering the characteristics of images. In addition, by altering the conventional edge detector for the purpose of a easy De-interlacing and multiplying the optimal translation coefficients to each of the gradient vectors, an efficient interpolation for images can be achieved. Comparing with the conventional De-interlacing algorithms, proposed algorithm not only reduced the complexity but also estimated the accurate edge direction and the proposed scheme have been clearly verified that it enhances the objective and subjective image quality by the extensive simulations for various images.

  • Currently many vessels determine an overhead obstruction by a rule of thumb based on their draft for maritime navigation. Therefore they doesn't have a good overhead obstruction clearance because vertical position of vessels varies on time by tidal. As a result, it is occurred maritime accidents that the mainmast of vessels is bumped against overhead facilities. And disaster by global warming and rising sea levels have increased casualties. So we feel keenly the necessity of warning system for not an earthquake but disaster wave such a tsunami. This paper analyzes a precise GPS ephemeris for maritime precise positioning to solve these problems. The precise GPS ephemeris provided by International GNSS service gives a difficulty to real-time application because of its sample interval. This paper proposes an effective interpolation method for real-time application, and it analyzes an accuracy of precise GPS ephemeris through an interpolation method.

  • In this paper, a new frame rate up conversion (FRUC) algorithm using adaptive motion estimation (AME-FRUC) is proposed. The proposed algorithm performs extended bilateral motion estimation (EBME) conducts motion estimation (ME) processes on the static region, and extract region of interest with the motion vector (MV). In the region of interest block, the proposed AME-FRUC uses the texture block partitioning scheme and the unilateral motion estimation for improving ME accuracy. Finally, motion compensated frame interpolation (MCFI) are adopted to interpolate the intermediate frame in which MCFI is employed adaptively based on ME scheme. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improves the PSNR up to 3dB, the SSIM up to 0.07 and 68% lower SAD calculations compared to the EBME and the conventional FRUC algorithms.

  • In this study, in order to maximize the accuracy and efficiency of the existing interpolation method fractal methods are applied. Developed FEDISA model revives the irregularity of the real terrain with only a few information about base terrain, which can produce almost complete geographic information. The area of the model is set to $150m{\times}150m$, $300m{\times}300m$, $600m{\times}600m$, $1,200m{\times}1,200m$ to compare the real data with the data of the existing interpolation method and FEDISA model. By statistical verification of the results, the adaptability and efficiency of FEDISA model are investigated. It seems that FEDISA model will help a lot to obtain the terrain information about the changed terrain, such as the bottom of reservoirs and dams as well as large amount of destruction due to cutting and banking.

  • This paper comprises two specific objectives. The first is to examine the applicability of ordinary kriging interpolation(OK) to the p-adaptivity of the finite element method that is based on variogram modeling. The second objective Is to present the adaptive procedure by the hierarchical p-refinement in conjunction with a posteriori error estimator using the modified S.P.R. (superconvergent patch recovery) method. The ordinary kriging method that is one of weighted interpolation techniques is applied to obtain the estimated exact solution from the stress data at the Gauss points. The weight factor is determined by experimental and theoretical variograms for interpolation of stress data apart from the conventional interpolation methods that use an equal weight factor. In the p-refinement, the analytical domain has to be refined automatically to obtain an acceptable level of accuracy by increasing the p-level non-uniformly or selectively. To verify the performance of the modified S.P.R. method, the new error estimator based on limit value has been proposed. The validity of the proposed approach has been tested with the help of some benchmark problems of linear elastic fracture mechanics such as a centrally cracked panel, a single edged crack, and a double edged crack.

  • In this paper, we designed simultaneous 2-axis control system using commercialized custom ICs for positioning and interpolation that is very compact and high reliable. This system is primarily designed for NC system, we verified it is more complete than the other hardware & software based system in its function, control accuracy and cost. Also, this system can be expanded for multi-axis control, it can be applied to the control of more complicated mechanism such as articulated robot.

  • In this study, the effect of cone angle of seven-hole probe on the accuracy of measured flow angle and velocity has been investigated. The seven-hole probe consisted of seven 1mm OD stainless inner tubes and one 3mm ID stainless tube. Six cone angles of $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $105^{\circ}$ and $120^{\circ}$ were tested. Calibrations of the seven-hole probes were conducted within ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ range with the interval of $5^{\circ}$. Analysis results show that the effect on the cone angle was not significant on the accuracy of the measured flow angle, pressure, and velocity. However, the data reduction method had more effect on the measurement accuracy.

  • Digital Terrain Model is composed of two basic elements, namely, sampling and interpolation. They represent the procurement of data and the geometric reconstruction of terrain relief respectively. For evaluation DTM data, following two paremeters appear to be the most important factor, that is, the accuracy and efficiency and, in particular, the break point information significantly affect to the accuracy of DTM data. The main objective of this study is to improve the accuracy and efficiency of DTM by applying Progressive Sampling with distinct morphologic information. In this study, the total of 240 individual numerical tests has been implemented and the appropriate computer program is also developed for the test. The result of investigation shows that the Progressive Sampling with break point information improves the accuracy of DTM by 30 percent approximately.

  • This research aims to examine accuracy and efficiency of the first four moments corresponding to mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis, which are estimated by a function approximation moment method (FAMM). In FAMM, the moments are estimated from an approximating quadratic function of a system response function. The function approximation is performed on a specially selected experimental region for accuracy, and the number of function evaluations is taken equal to that of the unknown coefficients for efficiency. For this purpose, three error-minimizing conditions are utilized and corresponding canonical experimental regions constructed accordingly. An interpolation function is then obtained using a D-optimal design and then the first four moments of it are obtained as the estimates for the system response function. In order to verify accuracy and efficiency of FAMM, several non-linear examples are considered including a polynomial of order 4, an exponential function, and a rational function. The moments calculated from various coefficients of variation show very good accuracy and efficiency in comparison with those from analytic integration or the Monte Carlo simulation and the experimental design technique proposed by Taguchi and updated by D'Errico and Zaino.
