We propose a physical simulation method based on the shallow water equation(SWE) to represent water surface effectively. In this paper, the water which can be represented has a much larger width compared to the depth does not have a large vertical direction flow. In order to calculate the water flow efficiently, we start with the shallow water equation as the governing equation, which is a simplified version of the Navier-Stokes equation. In order to numerically calculate the advection term of the SWE, we introduce a new conservtive USCIP(CUSCIP) method which improves the Constrained Interpolation Profile (CIP) method to preserve the physical quantity while increasing the numerical accuracy. The proposed method is based on Kim et. al.'s Unsplit Semi-lagrangian CIP[9], and calculates advection term with additional constraints on term that consider integral values. The experimental results show that the CUSCIP method is robust to the loss of physical quantity due to numerical dissipation, which improves wave detail and persistence.

Small vibration displacements may be measured by optical interferometers, based on the Michelson method. The standard Michelson interferometer works well when the mirror displacements are relatively large compared to the optical wavelength. But it does not work for displacements less than approximately a quater of optical wavelength. Several multiple reflection laser interferometers, simply modified standard Michelson interferometer, have been developed to decrease the minimum detectable limits. Among these a relatively simple and easy multiple reflection system is used to measure the small vibration displacements. This multiple reflection system is constructed with a right angle prism and a convex lens. Therefore this system makes it possible to measure a vibration displacement of the small area on the vibrating structure. The fringe interpolation method and curve fitting method are used to determine accurately the small vibration displacements from the measured interference fringe patterns. Also computer simulation technique is used to check the accuracies of these method. According to the results of the computer simulation technique, the curve fitting method is more accurate than the fringe interpolation method. The optically measured results are in good agreement with those of the standard accelerometer with high accuracy and it is possible to measure the peak vibration displacement as small as 9.01nm using multiple reflection system and curve fitting method.

Mapping accurate spatial information is important for constructing three-dimensional (3D) spatial models and managing artificial facilities, and, especially, mapping road centerlines is necessary for constructing accurate road maps. This research developed a semi-automatic methodology for mapping road centerlines using the MMS(Mobile Mapping System) LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) point cloud as follows. First, the intensity image was generated from the given MMS LiDAR data through the interpolation method. Next, the line segments were extracted from the intensity image through the edge detection technique. Finally, the road centerline segments were manually selected among the extracted line segments. The statistical results showed that the generated road centerlines had 0.065 m overall accuracy but had some errors in the areas near road signs.

An unstructured parallel overset mesh method has been developed for the simulation of unsteady flows around multiple bodies in relative motion. For this purpose, an efficient and robust search method is proposed for the unstructured grid system. A new data-structure is also proposed to handle the variable number of data on parallel sub-domain boundary. The interpolation boundary is defined for data communication between grid systems. An interpolation method to retain second-order spatial accuracy and to treat the points inside the neighboring solid bodies are also suggested. A single store separating from the Eglin/Pylon configuration is calculated and the result is compared with experimental data for validation. Simulation of unsteady flows around multiple bodies in relative motion is also performed.

Iris recognition for biometric personnel identification has gained much interest owing to the increasing concern with security today. The image quality plays a major role in the performance of iris recognition systems. When capturing an iris image under uncontrolled conditions and dealing with non-cooperative people, the chance of getting non-ideal images is very high owing to poor focus, off-angle, noise, motion blur, occlusion of eyelashes and eyelids, and wearing glasses. In order to improve the accuracy of iris recognition while dealing with non-ideal iris images, we propose a novel algorithm that improves the quality of degraded iris images. First, the iris image is localized properly to obtain accurate iris boundary detection, and then the iris image is normalized to obtain a fixed size. Second, the valid region (iris region) is extracted from the segmented iris image to obtain only the iris region. Third, to get a well-distributed texture image, bilinear interpolation is used on the segmented valid iris gray image. Using contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) enhances the low contrast of the resulting interpolated image. The results of CLAHE are further improved by stretching the maximum and minimum values to 0-255 by using histogram-stretching technique. The gray texture information is extracted by 1D Gabor filters while the Hamming distance technique is chosen as a metric for recognition. The NICE-II training dataset taken from UBRIS.v2 was used for the experiment. Results of the proposed method outperformed other methods in terms of equal error rate (EER).

Gridded bathymetric data of 30 seconds apart in Korea marginal seas $(30^{\circ}N{\sim}44^{\circ}N,\;117^{\circ}E{\sim}143^{\circ}E)$ are produced. In order to make the data, both updated gridded data of 1 minute apart on internet sites and all the digital nautical charts issued by National Oceanographic Research Institute (NORI) in Oct. 2007 are used. The reference level of the gridded data is approximate level of lowest low water and the horizontal coordinates are based on the WGS84 ellipsoid. Especially a developed computer program can collect all the sounding data including depth contour directly from the digital charts and UTM coordinates of the data are converted to the WGS84 coordinates from which accuracy of data is significantly improved. An interpolation method is adopted to produce the gridded data which are compared and analyzed against the existing gridded data. In this gridded data we can see significantly detailed topographic features which could not be found in the previous data.

More than four visible GPS (Global Positioning System) satellites are required to obtain absolute positioning. However, it is not easy to satisfy this condition when a rover is in such unfavorable condition as an urban area. As a consequence, clock-aided positioning has been used as an alternative method especially when the number of visible satellites is three providing that receive clock error information is available. In this study, LSC (Least-Squares Collocation) method is proposed to interpolate clock errors for clock-aided positioning after analyzing the characteristics of receiver clock errors. Numerical tests are performed by using GPS data collected at one of Korean CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Station) and a nearby GPS station. The receiver clock errors are obtained through the DGPS (Differential GPS) positioning technique and segmentation procedures are applied for efficient interpolation. Then, LSC is applied to predicted clock error at epoch which clock information is not available. The numerical test results are analyzed by examining the differences between the original and interpolated clock errors. The mean and standard deviation of the residuals are 0.24m and 0.49m, respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that sufficient accuracy can be obtained by using the proposed method in this study.
Neuromorphic architecture is drawing attention as a next-generation computing that supports artificial intelligence technology with low energy. However, FPGA embedded boards based on Neuromorphic architecturehave limited resources due to size and power. In this paper, we compared and evaluated the image reduction method using the interpolation method that rescales the size without considering the feature points and the DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) method that preserves the feature points as much as possible based on energy. The scaled images were compared and analyzed for accuracy through CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks) in a PC environment and in the Nengo framework of an FPGA embedded board.. As a result of the experiment, DCT based classification showed about 1.9% higher performance than that of interpolation representation in both CNN and FPGA nengo environments. Based on the experimental results, when the DCT method is used in a limited resource environment such as an embedded board, a lot of resources are allocated to the expression of neurons used for classification, and the recognition rate is expected to increase.
In this paper, we propose a method to improve the performance of Transformer-based speech recognizers using data augmentation that locally adjusts the frame rate. First, the start time and length of the part to be augmented in the original voice data are randomly selected. Then, the frame rate of the selected part is changed to a new frame rate by using linear interpolation. Experimental results using the Wall Street Journal and LibriSpeech speech databases showed that the convergence time took longer than the baseline, but the recognition accuracy was improved in most cases. In order to further improve the performance, various parameters such as the length and the speed of the selected parts were optimized. The proposed method was shown to achieve relative performance improvement of 11.8 % and 14.9 % compared with the baseline in the Wall Street Journal and LibriSpeech speech databases, respectively.

The inversion of radiation field distribution is of great significance in the decommissioning sites of nuclear facilities. However, the radiation fields often contain multiple mixtures of radionuclides, making the inversion extremely difficult and posing a huge challenge. Many radiation field reconstruction methods, such as Kriging algorithm and neural network, can not solve this problem perfectly. To address this issue, this paper proposes an optimized inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation algorithm for reconstructing the gamma radiation field. The algorithm corrects the difference between the experimental and simulated scenarios, and the data is preprocessed with normalization to improve accuracy. The experiment involves setting up gamma radiation fields of three Co-60 radioactive sources and verifying them by using the optimized IDW algorithm. The results show that the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of the reconstruction result obtained by using the optimized IDW algorithm is 16.0%, which is significantly better than the results obtained by using the Kriging method. Importantly, the optimized IDW algorithm is suitable for radiation scenarios with multiple radioactive sources, providing an effective method for obtaining radiation field distribution in nuclear facility decommissioning engineering.
