  • The purpose of this study is 1) to investigate the effects of Internet apparel store attributes, shopping values, Internet usage, and consumers' characteristics on consumers' Internet apparel purchasing behavior; and 2) to identify the influence of Internet apparel store attributes, Internet usage, and consumers' characteristics on the Internet apparel purchasing behavior of hedonic or utilitarian consumers. The data were collected via an online survey. A total of 4,254 Internet users participated in this survey. Only 589 out of the users' reponses were used as a sample for this research, because those users had previously experienced Internet apparel purchasing. Factor analysis revealed five dimensions of Internet apparel store attributes: site design/navigation, promotion programs, trust, product assortment/ information, and customer service. Based on the respondents' shopping value scores, we identified them as hedonic or utilitarian consumers. Through multiple regression analyses, site design/navigation and promotion programs among store attribute variables, hedonistic or utilitarian shopping values, the number of years on the Internet, income, and educational level were found to be significant predictors of Internet apparel shopping frequency. Among them, hedonistic shopping values were the best predictor of Internet apparel purchasing frequency. Based on the Internet apparel purchasers' shopping value, purchasers were divided into two groups. For hedonic Internet apparel shoppers, the number of years on the Internet, educational level, sex, age, and income were significant predictors of Internet apparel shopping behavior. On the other hand, promotion programs among store attribute variables was the only significant factor that affects utilitarian consumers' Internet apparel shopping behavior.

  • The design and development of a Web-based Workflow Management System (WfMS) is described in this paper. WfMSs are employed by many organizations to manage their business processes efficiently. The goal of this research is to provide an effective management of design processes in a distributed and heterogeneous environment-an environment in which workflow participants are geographically dispersed and use different computing platforms. We identify the requirements of WfMSs for the distributed and heterogeneous environment. We present an approach to applying the Web technology to was. The developed system is composed of three main modules: Worflow Engine, Web-based clients, and Process Designer. The workflow engine is implemented in pure Java for portability to heterogeneous platforms. furthermore, the client interfaces are all programmed using applets, and thus they can be readily accessed through the Internet/intranet. The Process Designer provides a build-time function of generating process specifications. Some important functions of the developed system are explained in this paper. A prototype system has been developed and applied to design processes. The system allows effective cooperation among designers who may be geographically separated.

  • Today's engineering design is carried out in a distributed fashion geographically or physically. This places new requirements on the computational environments such as efficient integration and collaboration. With the advances of the Internet and Network environment recently, many researches have been proposed and at the same time, Web-based distributed design gives to a new paradigm in design and manufacturing fields. That is, Web-based technologies lead to reduce the product development times and to ensure a competitive product in order to exchange and interact of real-time design information that integrates the distributed design environment between departments as well as companies via Internet and Web. So, an efficient data communication for design information sharing is the foundation for collaborative systems in the distributed environment. Design data communication techniques such as CORBA, DCOM and RMI have been considered in the existing research but they have some problems that are limitations of interoperability and firewall problems in the Web. Therefore, this paper presents a Web-based distributed design application where distributed design information resources are integrated and exchanged using Web Services for supporting XML and HTTP without the interoperability and firewall problems through the 330K VLCC case.

  • The purpose of this study was, as an experimental one, to suggest concrete ways to use computer in fashion design from information collection to design completion, and to present a real example based on the suggested ways. The first step to attain the purpose was gathering various sorts of worldwide fashion design information on the Internet, and then the collected data were inserted in a graphic file. Next, two methods of fashion design that use computer graphics were recommended : one was to produce fashion design just by altering some of the inputted Internet fashion materials, and the other was to do it after selected basic materials were put in database. Those methods could enable one to do fashion design just with rearrangement and smallest change of the prepared basic materials, without drawing directly, and at the same time, they could minimize time and efforts required for computer fashion design.

  • Recent studies have shown that inverse design using deep learning has the potential to rapidly generate the optimal design that satisfies the target performance without the need for iterative optimization processes. Unlike traditional methods, deep learning allows the network to rapidly generate a large number of solution candidates for the same objective after a single training, and enables the generation of diverse designs tailored to the objectives of inverse design. These inverse design techniques are expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and innovation of design processes in various fields such as aerospace, biology, medical, and engineering. We analyzes inverse design models that are mainly utilized in the nano and chemical fields, and proposes inverse design models based on supervised and unsupervised learning that can be applied to the engineering system. It is expected to present the possibility of effectively applying inverse design methodologies to the design optimization problem in the field of engineering according to each specific objective.

  • The use of computers in architectural professions has grown with the power of easy data management, increased sophistication of standalone applications, inexpensive hardware, improved speed of processing, use of standard library and tools for communication and collaboration. Recently, there has been a growing interest in distributed CAAD (Computer-Aided Architectural Design) integration due to the needs of direct collaboration among project participants in different locations, and Internet is becoming the optimal tool for collaboration among participants in architectural design and construction projects. The aim of this research is to provide a new paradigm for a CAAD system by combining research on integrated CAAD applications with recent collaboration technologies. To accomplish this research objective, interactive three-dimensional (3D) design tools and applications running on the Web have been developed for an Internet-based distributed CAAD application system, specifically designed to meet the requirements of the architectural design process. To this end, two different scopes of implementation are evaluated: first, global architecture and the functionality of a distributed CAAD system; and, second, the association of an architectural application to the system.

  • A nuclear Power Plant is composed of a number of mechanical components. Maintaining the integrity of these components is one of the most critical issues in nuclear industry. In order to evaluate the integrity of these mechanical components, a lot of data are required including inspection data, geometrical data, material properties, etc. Therefore, an effective database system is essential to manage the integrity of nuclear power plant. For this purpose, an internet based virtual reality environment and web database system was proposed. The developed virtual reality environment provides realistic geometrical configurations of mechanical components using VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language). The virtual reality environment was linked with the web database, which can manage the required data for the integrity evaluation. The proposed system is able to share the information regarding the integrity evaluation through internet, and thus, will be suitable for an integrated system for the maintenance of mechanical components.
