GIS의 역사는 1970년대 컴퓨터의 본격적인 등장 및 급격한 사회환경 변화에 대한 자료 처리도구의 필요성이 대두됨에 따라 전문 GIS산업이 등장하게 되었고 자원, 환경관리 및 공공시설 관리에 주로 활용되었다. 1980년대에는 GIS의 저변확대기로 관계형 데이터베이스 및 워크스테이션이 개발되었고, 1990년대에는 H/W, S/W의 발전과 더불어 저장매체 및 통신기술이 발달하게 되었고 이때 GPS 및 3D GIS가 나타나게 되었고 Internet GIS 및 Mobile GIS 응용프로그램 등장과 더불어 GIS 생활화가 시작되었다. 미국, 영국, 캐나다 등 주요 선진국에서는 GIS 구축을 사회간접자본이라는 개념하에 국가발전 전략사업의 일환으로 추진중에 있으며 1998년 기준으로 40억달러 규모의 GIS 시장이 매년 20%이상 시장확대가 이루어질것으로 예상하고 있다. 이에 우리나라도 1980년대 후반부터 GIS에 대한 정부차원의 관심이 증대하여 국가지리정보시스템 구축에 약5,000억의 예산을 배정하여 진행하고 있다. 이에 발맞추어 21C 전력사업 환경변화에 적극적으로 대처하고 배전설비 관리업무의 혁신을 위하여 신배전정보시스템 사업의 일환인 설비DB 구축을 시행하였으며 현재 운영중에 있다.

최근 인터넷 지리정보시스템에 대한 요구가 증가하면서 효율적인 공간 데이터 검색에 대한 필요성이 커지고 있다. 효율적인 공간 데이터 검색을 위해서는 단계별로 상세 화된 데이터를 검색하는 기법이 요구되며, 이러한 데이터를 효율적으로 처리하는 공간 인덱싱 기법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 효율적인 공간 데이터 검색을 위한 단계화 된 지리정보 데이터 검색을 지원하는 공간 인덱싱 기법을 제안한다. 기존의 공간 인덱싱 기법은 단계별 데이터를 검색하는데 비효율적이며, 단계별 데이터를 지원하는 몇 가지 공간 인덱싱 기법도 모든 종류의 단계별 데이터를 지원할 수 없는 문제점을 가진다. 제안된 구조는 모든 종류의 단계별 데이터를 지원하며, 메모리 용량과 검색 시간 모두에서 이전의 공간 인덱싱 기법보다 우수하다.

The task of development and usage in a corporate computer network of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FEB RAS) of integrated technology of joint use by the scientists of satellite and sub satellite data on a Northwestern Pacific is considered. This integrated technology is realized by embedding of satellite data in the corporate oceanographic GIS of FEB RAS as a new information layer, and also by support of GIS by program techniques for specialized processing of both kinds of the data. As a result of integration the specialists of FEB RAS have an opportunity to carry out coordinated samples of satellite and various oceanographic data as a function of area, time and other important conditions, visualize them together and carry out analytical processing with the usage of the GIS tools. Application of the realized approach to improve the techniques of detection and description of the oceanic phenomena on ERS-l and ERS-2 SAR images as well as to improve of perspective techniques of the usage the brightness temperatures measured by a microwave radiometers AMSR-E on a board of Aqua (USA) satellites are discussed.

지도는 지표공간을 표현하기 위해 점 선 면의 그래픽 언어를 사용한다. 지도는 지리교육에서 지역학습과 도해력 향상을 위한 학습도구로서 이용되어 왔다. GIS와 인터넷이 급속히 발달하면서, 지도의 활용이 다양한 분야로 확대되었다. 본 논문은 WebGIS를 이용하여 자기주도적인 지리학습을 수행할 수 있도록 웹기반 학습교재 개발을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위한 학습도구로서, 충청북도 행정구역도, 1:25,000 조치원 수치지형도, 통계 자료 및 이미지를 이용하여 지형도와 주제도를 위한 WebGIS가 구축되었다. WebGIS의 기능은 지역에 대한 정보 수집과 검색을 가능하게 하고, 공간현상의 지역적 차이를 파악할 수 있게 제작하였다. 인터넷을 이용한 개별 학습은 학습자중심 학습 및 문제해결력을 향상시킬 수 있을 것이다. 마지막으로 본 연구는 정보사회의 청사진으로서 교육을 위한 한 방향이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

시설물이나 토지, 도로, 방재 등 다방면에서 GIS의 효과성이 입증됨에 따라 최근 들어 상권이나 고객, 영업 관리 등에 GIS를 도입하여 시장분석 및 영업관리 역량을 강화하려는 민간 기업들이 증가하고 있다. 본 사례 연구에서는 날로 치열해지고 있는 통신시장의 경쟁환경 속에서 K사가 정교한 상권 및 고객 분석 역량을 확보하기 위해 GIS 영업정보 시스템을 구축 한 전 과정과 영업현장에서의 시스템 활용방안 등을 살펴보았다. 전사적으로 시스템을 오픈한 후 지사들로부터의 반응은 담당 관할구역에 대한 경쟁상황 파악 및 일/월 추세조회가 용이해 졌고, 왜곡되지 않은 실제 데이터를 제공받아 제한된 시간 내에 정확한 타겟 고객 선정이 가능해졌으며, 동별 시설분포와 같은 시설물 관련정보를 영업활동에 활용할 수 있어 매우 효과적이었다는 등이 주를 이루었다. 이와 같은 과정과 결과를 정리함으로써 향후 GIS 영업정보시스템 구축을 고려하고 있는 타 조직이나 기업들에게 의미 있는 가이드라인을 제시할 수 있기를 기대한다.

The major reason that spatial data warehousing has attracted a great deal of attention in business GIS in recent years is due to the wide availability of huge amounts of spatial data and the imminent need for turning such data into useful geographic information. Therefore, this research has been focused on designing and implementing the pilot tested system for spatial decision making. The purpose of the system is to predict targeted marketing area by discriminating the customers by using both transaction quantity and the number of customer using credit card in department store. Focused on the analysis methodology, the case study is aiming to use GIS and clustering for knowledge discovery. The system is a key section of the research of multi-dimensional and spatio-temporal analysis in the internet environment.

Invisible networks have hidden bits flows from human being and become the periphery in the Internet overload; technologies become invisible and everywhere computing. The appearance of the calm environment requires a new relationship between human being and machines and geographic features: a paradigm shift. However no one says what next steps to those environments on details are, a reason why lots of people focus on the endeavors. In this paper, we touch the geographic features on ubiquitous environments and research the transition step of GIS mobile applications in order to achieve a natural integration of connectivity, capability and functionality.

지하 시설물인 상수도관망의 관리에 관한 몇몇 연구에서와 같이 최근 지하 시설물 관리에 대한 흥미가 대두되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 유비쿼터스 환경을 구현하기 위한 스마트태그를 적용한다. 또한 제안한 프로그램의 구현을 위하여 사용된 GPS 기술은 GPS와 RFID 혼합 비즈니스 모델을 사용하며 효과적으로 RFID 시스템으로 지하 매설물들의 데이터를 관리하고 GIS상에서 네트워크 통신과 GPS 수신모듈을 통하여 전체 시스템의 고품질의 실용적이고 효율적인 시스템을 제공한다. 본 논문에서 지역혼합 데이터베이스를 사용하는 관리 시스템을 제안하였고 제안한 데이터베이스와 인터페이스 기술은 시뮬레이션을 통하여 테스트 및 평가하였다.

TMDL development and implementation have great potential fur use in efforts to improve water quality management, but the TMDL approach still has several difficulties to overcome in terms of cost, time requirements, and suitable methodologies. A well-defined prioritization approach for identifying watersheds of concern among several tar-get locations that would benefit from TMDL development and implementation, based on a simple screening approach, could be a major step in solving some of these difficulties. Therefore, a web-based decision support system (DSS) was developed to help identify areas within watersheds that might be priority areas for TMDL development. The DSS includes a graphical user interface based on the HTML protocol, hydrological models, databases, and geographic information system (GIS) capabilities. The DSS has a hydrological model that can estimate non-point source pollution loading based on over 30 years of daily direct runoff using the curve number method and pollutant event mean concentration data. The DSS provides comprehensive output analysis tools using charts and tables, and also provides probability analysis and best management practice cost estimation. In conclusion, the DSS is a simple, affordable tool for the preliminary study of TMDL development via the Internet, and the DSS web site can also be used as an information web server for education related to TMDL.

본 논문에서는 XML을 이용하여 웹 지리정보 서비스 시스템을 개선하기 위한 방법을 살펴보고, 구체적인 구현 결과를 제시하였다. 이는 인터넷을 통해 제공하는 다양한 지리 정보를 이기종 시스템 환경의 제약을 받지 않는 지도 서비스의 형태로 설계하였고, 사용자가 필요로 하는 지리 정보에 대한 서비스를 요청할 때 쉽고 빠르게 전달해 주는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 기존의 웹 지리정보 서비스를 보완하고 개선하기 위해 확장 가능하고 표준화된 형태의 XML을 이용하여 개발하였고, 고가의 GIS 소프트웨어를 구입하거나 각 업체에서 제공하는 응용 프로그램의 설치 없이 웹 브라우저에서도 지도 서비스를 이용할 수 있도록 구현하였다.
