  • In order to increase the capacity and improve the spectrum efficiency of wireless communication systems, this paper proposes a rate-based two-sided many-to-one matching game algorithm for energy-harvesting small cells with non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in heterogeneous cellular networks (HCN). First, we use a heuristic clustering based channel allocation algorithm to assign channels to small cells and manage the interference. Then, aiming at addressing the user access problem, this issue is modeled as a many-to-one matching game with the rate as its utility. Finally, considering externality in the matching game, we propose an algorithm that involves swap-matchings to find the optimal matching and to prove its stability. Simulation results show that this algorithm outperforms the comparing algorithm in efficiency and rate, in addition to improving the spectrum efficiency.

  • In orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, phase noise introduced by the local oscillators can cause bit error rate (BER) performance degradation. To solve the phase noise problem, a novel orthogonal-polarization-based phase noise self-cancellation (OP-PNSC) scheme is proposed. First, the efficiency of canceling the phase noise of the OP-PNSC scheme in the AWGN channel is investigated. Then, the OP-PNSC scheme in the polarization-dependent loss (PDL) channel is investigated due to power imbalance caused by PDL, and a PDL pre-compensated OP-PNSC (PPC -OP-PNSC) scheme is proposed to mitigate the power imbalance caused by PDL. In addition, the performance of the PPC-OP-PNSC scheme is investigated, where the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and spectral efficiency (SE) performances are analyzed. Finally, a comparison between the OP-PNSC and polarization diversity scheme is discussed. The numerical results show that the BER and SINR performances of the OP-PNSC scheme outperform the case with the phase noise compensation and phase noise self-cancellation scheme.

  • This study presents the design and implementation of a web-based remote laboratory for a multi-mode single-leg power converter, which is a topic in advanced power electronics course. The proposed laboratory includes an experimental test rig with a multi-mode single-leg power converter and its driver circuits, a measurement board, a control platform, and a LabVIEW-based user interface program that is operated in the server computer. Given that the proposed web-based remote laboratory is based on client/server architecture, the experimental test rig can be controlled by a client computer with Internet connection and a standard web browser. Although the multi-mode single-leg power converter can work at four different modes (main boost, buck-boost, boost-boost, and battery boost modes), only the buck-boost mode is used in the experiment because of page limit. Users can choose the control structure, control parameters, and reference values, as well as obtain graphical results from the user interface software. Consequently, the feedbacks received from students who conducted remote laboratory studies indicate that the proposed laboratory is a useful tool for both remote and traditional education.

  • Survivability is a necessary property of network system in disturbed environment. Recovery ability is a key actor of survivability. This paper concludes network survivability into a novel composite metric, i.e. Network Recovery Degree (NRD). In order to measure this metric in quantity, a concept of Source-Destination Pair (SD Pair), is created to abstract end-to-end activity based on end nodes in network, and the quality of SD Pair is also used to describe network performance, such as connectivity, quality of service, link degree, and so on. After that, a Survivability Test method in large scale Network based on SD pairs, called STNSD, is provided. How to select SD Pairs effectively in large scale network is also provided. We set up simulation environment to validate the test method in a severe destroy scenario and evaluate the method scalability in different large scale network scenarios. Experiment and analysis shows that the metric NRD correctly reflects the effort of different survivability strategy, and the proposed test method STNSD has good scalability and can be used to test and evaluate quantitative survivability in large scale network.

  • In this paper, we present a new public key encryption scheme with equality test (PKEwET). Compared to other PKEwET schemes, we find that its security can be improved since the proposed scheme is based on non-Abelian factorization problems. To our knowledge, it is the first scheme regarding equality test that can resist quantum algorithm attacks. We show that our scheme is one-way against chosen-ciphertext attacks in the case that the computational Diffie-Hellman problem is hard for a Type-I adversary. It is indistinguishable against chosen-ciphertext attacks in the case that the Decisional Diffie-Hellman problem is hard in the random oracle model for a Type-II adversary. To conclude the paper, we demonstrate that our scheme is more efficient.

  • In cloud computing era, an increasing number of resource-constrained users outsource their data to cloud servers. Due to the untrustworthiness of cloud servers, it is important to ensure the integrity of outsourced data. However, most of existing solutions still have challenging issues needing to be addressed, such as the identity privacy protection of users, the traceability of users, the supporting of dynamic user operations, and the publicity of auditing. In order to tackle these issues simultaneously, in this paper, we propose a traceable dynamic public auditing scheme with identity privacy preserving for cloud storage. In the proposed scheme, a single user, including a group manager, is unable to know the signer's identity. Furthermore, our scheme realizes traceability based on a secret sharing mechanism and supports dynamic user operations. Based on the security and efficiency analysis, it is shown that our scheme is secure and efficient.

  • This paper presents a novel range-free localization algorithm based on quantum particle swarm optimization. The proposed algorithm is capable of estimating the distance between two non-neighboring sensors for multi-hop heterogeneous wireless sensor networks where all nodes' communication ranges are different. Firstly, we construct a new cumulative distribution function of expected hop progress for sensor nodes with different transmission capability. Then, the distance between any two nodes can be computed accurately and effectively by deriving the mathematical expectation of cumulative distribution function. Finally, quantum particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to improve the positioning accuracy. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is superior in the localization accuracy and efficiency when used in random and uniform placement of nodes for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks.

  • Content Delivery Networks (CDN) server loads that fluctuant necessitate CDN to improve its service scalability especially when the peak load exceeds its service capacity. The peer assisted scheme is widely used in improving CDN scalability. However, CDN operators do not want to lose profit by overusing it, which may lead to the CDN resource utilization reduced. Therefore, improving CDN scalability moderately and guarantying CDN resource utilization maximized is necessary. However, when and how to use the peer-assisted scheme to achieve such improvement remains a great challenge. In this paper, we propose a new method called Dynamic Moderate Peer-assisted Method (DMPM), which uses time series analysis to predict and decide when and how many server loads needs to offload. A novel peer-assisted mechanism based on the prediction designed, which can maximize the profit of the CDN operators without influencing scalability. Extensive evaluations based on an actual CDN load traces have shown the effectiveness of DMPM.

  • This paper proposes new methods, named Derivative Code (DerivativeCode) and Derivative Code Pattern (DCP), for object recognition. The discriminative derivative code is used to capture the local relationship in the input image by concatenating binary results of the mathematical derivative value. Gabor based DerivativeCode is directly used to solve the palmprint recognition problem, which achieves a much better performance than the state-of-art results on the PolyU palmprint database. A new local pattern method, named Derivative Code Pattern (DCP), is further introduced to calculate the local pattern feature based on Dervativecode for object recognition. Similar to local binary pattern (LBP), DCP can be further combined with Gabor features and modeled by spatial histogram. To evaluate the performance of DCP and Gabor-DCP, we test them on the FERET and PolyU infrared face databases, and experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a better result than LBP and some state-of-the-arts.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is usually regarded as a spectral efficient multicarrier modulation technique, yet it suffers from a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) problem. Among all the existing PAPR reduction techniques in OFDM systems, side information based PAPR reduction techniques such as partial transmit sequence (PTS) and selective mapping (SLM) schemes, have attracted the most attention. However, the transmission of side information results in somewhat spectral loss and this does not significantly improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. Parallel combinatory (PC) OFDM yields higher spectral efficiency (SE) and better BER performance on Gaussian channels, while is a little but not obvious PAPR improvement over the ordinary OFDM system. This investigation aimed to design a 'perfect' OFDM system. We introduce the side information to rotate the subcarrier phases of our novel PC-OFDM system structure, and call this new system the SIPC(Side information based Parallel Combinatory)-OFDM system. The proposed system achieves better PAPR and SE performance. In addition, considering the tradeoff of system parameters, the proposed system also has the properties of a higher BER.
