  • Collaborative filtering recommender systems are vulnerable to shilling attacks in which malicious users may inject biased profiles to promote or demote a particular item being recommended. To tackle this problem, many robust collaborative recommendation methods have been presented. Unfortunately, the robustness of most methods is improved at the expense of prediction accuracy. In this paper, we construct a robust Bayesian probabilistic matrix factorization model for collaborative filtering recommender systems by incorporating the detection of user anomaly rating behaviors. We first detect the anomaly rating behaviors of users by the modified K-means algorithm and target item identification method to generate an indicator matrix of attack users. Then we incorporate the indicator matrix of attack users to construct a robust Bayesian probabilistic matrix factorization model and based on which a robust collaborative recommendation algorithm is devised. The experimental results on the MovieLens and Netflix datasets show that our model can significantly improve the robustness and recommendation accuracy compared with three baseline methods.

  • Aimed at the disclosure risk of mobile terminal user's location privacy in location-based services, a location-privacy protection scheme based on similar trajectory substitution is proposed. On the basis of the anonymized identities of users and candidates who request LBS, this scheme adopts trajectory similarity function to select the candidate whose trajectory is the most similar to user's at certain time intervals, then the selected candidate substitutes user to send LBS request, so as to protect user's privacy like identity, query and trajectory. Security analyses prove that this scheme is able to guarantee such security features as anonymity, non-forgeability, resistance to continuous query tracing attack and wiretapping attack. And the results of simulation experiment demonstrate that this scheme remarkably improve the optimal candidate' trajectory similarity and selection efficiency.

  • Receiver access control scheme is proposed to protect multicast distribution tree from DoS(Denial-of Service) attack induced by unauthorized use of IGMP(Internet group management protocol), by extending the security-related functionality of IGMP. Based on a specific network and business model adopted for commercial deployment of IP multicast applications, key management scheme is also presented for bootstrapping the proposed access control as well as accounting and billing for CP(Content Provider), NSP(Network Service Provider), and group members.

  • Satellite based communication is networks in which users in a wide area can access without wired-based ground infrastructure. In particular, the need is emerging due to the recent Ukraine-Russia war. Satellite network systems acquire data that is difficult to observe on Earth as well as communication networks and are also used for research and development, which allows additional data to be produced. However, due to the nature of communication networks existing in outer space, certain vulnerabilities are revealed, and attacks based on them can be exposed. In this paper, we analyze vulnerabilities that may arise due to the nature of satellite communication networks and describes current research, countermeasures, and future research directions.

  • In the Internet, user authentication is the most important service in secure communications. Although password-based mechanism is the most widely used method of the user authentication in the network, people are used to choose easy-to-remember passwords, and thus suffers from some Innate weaknesses. Therefore, using a memorable password it vulnerable to the dictionary attacks. The techniques used to prevent dictionary attacks bring about a heavy computational workload. In this paper, we describe a recent solution, the Optimal Strong-Password Authentication (OSPA) protocol, and that it is vulnerable to the stolen-verifier attack and an impersonation attack. Then, we propose an Improved Optimal Strong-Password Authentication (I-OSPA) protocol, which is secure against stolen-verifier attack and impersonation attack. Also, since the cryptographic operations are computed by the processor in the smart card, the proposed I-OSPA needs relatively low computational workload and communicational workload for user.

  • Internet banking service has a advantage that is unrestricted by time. If automated programs are able to attack Internet banking services, a number of accounts can be attacked at the same time and as a result, damage will be considerably increased. To cope with such attacks, two methods, VPS and MS watermark, were introduced by Arcot and MS respectively. The methods use text-based CAPTCHAs in the process of transfer approval to distinguish automated programs from legal human users. In this paper, we point out the security threats of the methods when those are applied to Internet banking services. Especially, we consider the attack that are performed by extract specific string from text-based CAPTCHAs and it's countermeasure. Also we suggest a method of enhancing security of internet banking services. Our method is based on contents-based CAPTCHAs that are consist of known transfer information between user and server.

  • Diverse kind of attack using the vulnerability of user authentication on Internet service is announced recently. Especially, security accidents on the Internet banking service and Internet telephony service(SIP) are increased rapidly. Attack skills are also evolved into intelligent mechanism. Therefore, more enhanced authentication mechanism is required on existing Internet banking and telephone services for preventing those kinds of attacks using personal identity information such as biometric data. In this research, the proposed B-OTP mechanism can be used to enhance security on a user authentication procedure by combining biometric data with existing OTP mechanism. As a result, the security on internet banking and Internet telephone service will be more improved by using proposed B-OTP mechanism.

  • Recently, the patterns of cyber attack through internet have been various and have become more complicated and thus it is difficult to detect a network intruder effectively and to response the intrusion quickly. Therefore, It is almost not possible to chase the real location of a network intruder and to isolate the Intruder from network in UDP based DoS or DDoS attacks spoofing source IP address and in TCP based detour connection attacks. In this paper, we propose active security architecture on active network to correspond to various cyber attacks promptly. Security management framework is designed using active technology, and security control mechanism to chase and isolate a network intruder is implemented. We also test the operation of the active security mechanism implemented on test_bed according to several attack scenarios and analyze the experiment results.

  • Recently, a cryptographic construct, called fuzzy vault, has been proposed for crypto-biometric systems, and some implementations for fingerprint have been reported to protect the stored fingerprint template by hiding the fingerprint features. In this paper, we implement the fuzzy fingerprint vault, combining fingerprint verification and fuzzy vault scheme to protect fingerprint templates. To implement the fuzzy fingerprint vault as a complete system, we have to consider several practical issues such as automatic fingerprint alignment, verification accuracy, execution time, error correcting code, etc. In addition, to protect the fuzzy fingerprint vault from the correlation attack, we propose an approach to insert chaffs in a structured way such that distinguishing the fingerprint minutiae and the chaff points obtained from two applications is computationally hard. Based on the experimental results, we confirm that the proposed approach provides higher security than inserting chaffs randomly without a significant degradation of the verification accuracy, and our implementation can be used for real applications.

  • As more critical services are provided in the internet, the risk to these services from malicious users increases. Several networks have experienced problems like Denial of Service(DoS) attacks recently. We analyse a network-based denial of service attack, which is called SYM flooding, to TCP-based networks. It occurs by an attacker who sends TCP connection requests with spoofed source address to a target system. Each request causes the targeted system to send instantly data packets out of a limited pool of resources. Then the target system's resources are exhausted and incoming TCP port connections can not be established. The paper is concerned with a detailed analysis of TCP SYN flooding denial of service attack. In this paper, we propose a Real Time Scan Detector(RTSD) mechanism and evaluate it\`s Performance.
