Analysis of Competitiveness in Steel Distribution Industry between China and Japan

  • Purpose - This paper reviews the change of steel export-import structure between Japan and China by the courtesy of international business reference index and stress to analyze comparative advantage under the circumstance of time-series evaluating database by 3 indexes. Research design, data, methodology - Per economic phase, both China-Japan have mutually a complementary base. Under this kind of view point, the reason why to conduct this study is to realize how this 2 country's trade competitiveness should be improved and strengthened. Results - Under this research data and analysis outcomes, bilateral intra-economy's potential supplementation is enormous. Additionally, expected benefits from here are so sufficiently assured as we compare them with any other regional economic integrated society. Conclusions - When we review our economic point of view, Northeast economic cooperations between China and Japan can provide a chance for industrial technological cooperations not only in steel business but also in other business areas. Come to think of the circumstance to accelerate competitions between 2 country's industries past time and acknowledge concrete resource supplier including expanding export market and diversification.

A Study on International Business Competitiveness in Ship Industry

  • The main target to do this analysis is to find out the competitiveness between 2 countries(Korea and USA) in the ship business industry. Ever since free from Japanese empire domination of modern history in Korean peninsular, Korea has been strong relationship with USA almost every fields. The purpose of this research is to realize which country is more competitive between 2 country's trade structure. This research conducted for period from 2000 to 2016. Expecting effect is to learn how to improve ship industry for 2 countries. Research method is used by comparative advantage trade theory. Even though Koran government has been accomplishing trade stimulus environment against USA ship industry, it is research limitation that overseas productions both Korean & USA are not available due to company business strategy. From early 50's, every USA industries hold a dominant position so far. Now, Korea is comparative advantage against that of USA in the field of ship industry. Sound competition relationship is good for both 2 countries for mutual benefits. The future prospect is Korea needs export market diversification to enlarge economic growth in the long run.

  • Nowadays, economic growth of China has become an important issue. Due to the demographic position and the market size, China-Korea trade relationship has grown tremendously and significantly. The Chinese relationship with the Korean industry has considerably increased over the years. Various trade competitiveness indices such as TSI, MRCAI, and IITI have been applied to measure the competitive advantage and the complementary of market structure between these two countries. For this purpose, the dataset from the year 2000 to 2008 provided by KITA were used. The MRCAI result show that Korea has specialized in the product of semiconductor, communication equipment, precision machine, automobile, and nonferrous metal. The intra-industry trade level of Korean manufacturing industry is rising in line with the dominance of vertical intra-industry trade(VIIT) trend.

  • China is our second largest trade partner and the biggest country of our investment. For this reason, the Korea active strategy for coping with China's changes is very critical at the current point in time due to the economic structure of Korea dependent on exports. This essay is aimed at studying the Foreign Trade Administration System of China and selecting Korea's prospective exports-imports to China. The purpose of this, essay is to help Korean trading corporation to understand the difference between Korea and China in foreign trade administration in order to promote bilateral trade between Korea and China.

기술수준별 베트남의 대 한국 무역경쟁력 분석(2002-2020) (A Analysis of Vietnam's Trade Competitiveness with Korea by Technology Level(2002-2020))

  • Since the Korea-Vietnam FTA was signed in 2015, trade between the two countries has increased rapidly, accounting for 6.8% of Vietnam's exports and 17.9% of its imports in 2020. The two countries show differences in import and export items. Vietnam has a high export ratio of agri-food products or products with the low-middle level of technology, while Korea has a high export ratio of products with the upper-middle level. The purpose of this study is to present implications by analyzing changes in trade competitiveness between Vietnam and Korea by technology level (2002-2020). For this purpose, statistics from UN Comtrade were used, and methodologies such as market share, Export Market Share (EMS), Trade Specialization Index (TSI), Intra-Industrial Trade Index (IIT), Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), and BCG Matrix were used. The results of the study are as follows. First, when looking at Vietnam's trade structure with South Korea by technology level, it was analyzed that the trade deficit widened as it showed a competitive disadvantage in high-tech, ICT, middle- and low-level technology items, excluding low-end technology items. Second, in terms of market share, the market share of Vietnamese products in the Korean market is continuously increasing, while the Korean market share in Vietnam is gradually decreasing from 2017. Third, Vietnam's export competitiveness to Korea by technology level shows that low-level technologies are competitive, but they are inferior in competitiveness in all other technology level, and especially in areas with high technology level, the level of inferiority is high. In conclusion, the trade relationship between Vietnam and Korea has maintained a mutually complementary rather than competitive relationship, which is expected to continue in the future.

  • This study investigates the different pattern of trade negotiation between Korea and Japan. For the Korea, it is inevitable to enhance nation's competitiveness position amid the rapidly changed international environment. Especially, Korea's recent experience of IMF credit under economic crisis during 1997-1999 tells us the importance of international trade and trade negotiation. Our main interest is focused on the comparative pattern of both countries with the recognition that the role of the negotiation can not be overemphasized for the Korea. This is because Korea has continuously recorded the huge trade deficits with Japan for the long time. Although we consider the different degrees of products quality, industrial structure, productivity, and national competitiveness of both countries, it is necessarily required to pay special attention on different pattern of negotiation skills and tactics between two countries. In the paper, we suggest some important guidelines for Korea to improve its negotiation technique with Japan. First, valuing human relation between negotiators, rather than negotiating process. Second, preparing for negotiations: the negotiators should try to carve out enough time to prepare for the bargaining. Third, appreciating the power of patience: very essential to effective outputs. Fourth, being a specialist on both countries' culture and avoiding lawyers' intervention for conflict resolution.

  • 본 연구는 한국과 미국의 수출입에 따른 산업별 독성물질(유해화학물질) 배출량 이전관계를 규명한 것이다. 분석에 이용된 자료는 한국과 미국에서 공동적으로 조사하는 51종의 독성물질 배출량과 2000년의 국제산업연관표이다. 분석결과, 한국의 경우, 총배출 강도가 높은 산업은 금속, 화학, 금속기계 등이며, 미국은 전자 및 가전, 화학, 플라스틱 및 고무 등에서 높은 배출강도를 나타내고 있다. 한국의 대(對)미국 수출구조는 미국의 대(對)한국 수출구조에 비해 자국의 환경에 불리한 측면을 가지고 있다. 즉, 미국의 대(對)한국 수출은 미국내 배출량 증가에 상대적으로 낮게 기여하고 있으나, 한국의 대(對)미국 수출은 한국내 배출량 증가에 상대적으로 크게 기여하고 있다.

사회연결망 분석을 활용한 무역 분야 연구동향 분석 (A Study on the Research Trends in International Trade using Social Network Analysis)

  • 본 연구에서는 사회연결망 분석 기법을 활용해 무역 분야 연구의 동향과 지식구조를 입체적으로 파악했다. 이를 위해 2003년부터 2019년까지 국제통상연구, 무역학회지, Journal of Korea Trade의 3개 학술지에 수록된 1797개의 논문에서 4840개의 주제어를 추출해 분석을 실시했다. 분석 결과, 무역 연구의 주제어 분포는 다른 지적 네트워크와 마찬가지로 뚜렷한 멱함수 분포를 나타냈다. 학술지에 따라 상위 주제어에 다소의 차이가 나타났는데, Total Factor Productivity, Economic Growth, Korea-US FTA는 국제통상연구에서만 상위에 랭크됐다. Global Value Chain, Trust는 2011~2019년 기간에 새롭게 연구자들의 관심을 끈 주제어로 부상한 것으로 나타났다. E-Trade, WTO, Internationalization은 관심도가 근년에 올수록 줄어들었다. 기존 무역 분야 연구동향 분석은 서술적 방법에 의한 질적 분석이 대종을 이뤘으나, 본 연구는 사회 연결망 분석 기법을 활용한 양적 분석이라는 점에 의미가 있다.

우리나라 환경산업의 무역구조와 국제경쟁력에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Trade Structures and International Competitiveness of the Korean Environmental Industry)

  • 본 논문에서는 DDA 환경상품 무역자유화 협상에 대비하여 세계 주요국과 우리나라의 환경산업 제품에 대한 무역구조를 분석하였다. OECD에서 제안한 161종의 환경상품 리스트를 기반으로 2002년부터 2011년까지 10년간 전 세계 환경상품의 무역 통계를 조사하였다. 환경산업의 세계 무역규모는 2002년 4,639억 달러에서 2011년 1조4,778억 달러로 3배 이상 증가하였다. 우리나라의 2011년 환경상품의 세계시장 점유율은 3.2%이며, 무역특화지수는 -0.128, 현시비교우위지수는 1.002이며 세계시장에서 일본과 수출경합도가 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문에서 우리나라의 환경상품의 국제경쟁력은 무역규모에 비해 국제경쟁력이 상대적으로 약한 것으로 조사되었다. 따라서 향후 지속될 DDA 환경상품 자유화 협상에서 우리나라는 환경상품의 유예기간 설정 등 단계별 무역자유화 추진과 국내 산업의 경쟁력 향상을 위해 노력해야 할 것이다.

The Importance of International Transport and Logistics Infrastructure in the Economic Development of the Country: The Case of the EU for Ukraine

  • For twenty years, in the EU there has been a trend of a lack of maritime infrastructure and a redundance of the road one, which has a negative impact on the economy. The intermodal transport market structure in the EU has not changed over the past ten years. The stability of transport systems due to the lack of changes in the transport market remains under threat, affecting supply chains and networks through the optimization of warehousing and transportation costs. The research methodology is based on a quantitative assessment of cause-and-effect relations between economic growth and transport and logistics in the EU. A statistical analysis of security indicators, intermodal and modal transport, international trade in goods within the EU and in the world trade in goods, the dynamics of GDP of the EU countries, the level of openness of the EU economy, investment and maintenance costs of different modes of transport and infrastructure has been carried out. The results show that in 2000- 2010 there were positive changes in the transport and logistics infrastructure of the EU, which had a positive effect on trade, openness of the economy of the EU, GDP growth. However, at that time, negative effects of environmental impact and the load on road and rail transport were accumulating. Investment in different modes of transport is limited, and technical maintenance and infrastructure maintenance costs form a significant part of GDP of the EU. A slowdown in economic growth leads to budget constraints and infrastructure financing gap. As a result, the freight and passenger intermodal and modal transport market structure remains virtually unchanged. The load on rail and road transport remains stable, despite the reduced level of transport hazards. Transport productivity has declined over the past ten years. Herewith, the intensification of trade and the openness of the EU economies require constant modernization and innovative renewal. The EU policy in this direction remains normative, uncontrolled, which is reflected in investment differences within the EU and maintenance costs.
