Since its establishment in 2018, the Young Generation Network (YGN) has been dedicated, with support of the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA), to a variety of activities to promote communication, collaboration and professional development of students and young professionals in the area of radiation protection and its allied fields. This article reports our recent activities from the middle of 2018 to the beginning of 2021, with highlights on some important events: "Joint JHPS-SRP-KARP Workshop of Young Generation Network" (December 2019 in Japan); contribution to "Nuclear Energy Agency Workshop on Optimization: Rethinking the Art of Reasonable" (January 2020 in Portugal); survey on the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on radiation protection among IRPA YGN members (March 2020); and contribution to IRPA15 (15^th International Congress of the IRPA; January-February 2021, online). The discussion and insight obtained from each activity are also summarized. The IRPA YGN will aim to achieve its on-going activities and continue to follow the ways paved in the Strategic Agenda and despite the challenges raised by the COVID-19 pandemic. Namely, running an international survey (for example, on the usage of social media in radiation protection, and on the long-term consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic), engaging national YGNs, extending the network, finding new relationships with networks with an interest in the young generation and participation in (remote) events will be aspired for.

1988년 4월 10일부터 17일까지 오스트레일리아의 Sydney에서 개최된 제7차 IRPA 국제학회에서 발표된 방사선방어에 관한 연구논문들을 전반적으로 검토하여 방사선 연구의 동향을 파악하는 한편, 전리방사선 안전분야에서 일어나고 있는 변화와 비전리 방사선 영역에서 증가되고 있는 관심사항등을 소개함으로써 금번 제7차 IRPA 국제학회의 면모를 소개한다. 첨가하여 IRPA 7 국제학회의 poster session에서 발표된 연구논문, '황산망간 용액조 방법에 의한 Cf-252 중성자 선원의 방출률측정'이 전재된다.

최근에 정자기장을 사용하는 새로운 기술이 개발되어 인체가 정자기장에 노출될 가능성이 커지게 되어 건강에 영향을 줄 우려도 증가되었다. 여러 나라에서 정부를 비롯한 권위 있는 기관들이 주로 자기공명 영상법(MRI)이나 고에너지물리학에서의 입자가속기와 같은 특수 용도를 위해 노출한도를 제시해 왔다. 산업적인 면과 의학에서의 정자기장의 응용이 앞으로 더 많아져서 직업적이거나 일반공중이거나 간에 노출 가능성이 증가되고, 또 정자기장(static magnetic field)에 영향을 받는 강자성(强磁性) 이식조직 이나 전자장치를 부착한 사람들의 수도 증가하고 있으므로 국제적인 노출한도에 대한 지침이 필요하게 되었다. 본고에서는 비 이온화방사선(NIR)에 대한 국제방사선방어학회/비이온방사선방어위원회(IRPA/ICNIRP)의 제반지침을 검토하기 위하여 이 IRPA/ICNIRP(이전의 INIRC의 것도 포함)의 기본지침 중 정자기장에 대한 노출한도에 관한 지침을 택하여 논하였다.

1984년 5월 7일부터 동(同) 12일까지 서(西) Berlin의 International Congress Center(ICC) 에서 열렸던 국제방사선방어학회(IRPA) 제 6 차 국제학술대회 참가와 동년(同年) 8월 27일부터 9월 10일사이에 이루어 졌던 국제원자력기구(IAEA) 지원에 의한 미국내 방사선방어 및 보건물리분야(保健物理分野)의 대학원(大學院) 교육 및 연구현황 시찰을 통하여 감지(感知)한 최근 구미(歐美) 방사선방어 학계의 연주 및 교육훈련 동향(動向)을 보고(保辜)한다.
