국내외 PEMFC 개발 동향 및 선박 적용에 관한 고찰 (A Study on the Development Trends of Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells and Application to Ships)

  • 국제해사기구(IMO)는 국제해운 분야의 온실가스(Green House Gas, GHG) 감축을 위하여 각국의 기술 개발 및 에너지 효율성 제고에 관한 정책 시행을 적극적으로 권장하고 있다. 이러한 IMO의 환경규제와 관련된 정책들은 해운 분야 전반에 큰 영향을 미치고 있으며, 선주들에게도 막대한 부담으로 작용하고 있다. 선박에서 발생하는 GHG 배출을 억제하기 위한 가장 합리적인 방안은 탄소제로배출(Zero Emission) 선박의 개발로 귀결된다. 즉 친환경 연료로 추진하는 연료전지선박(Fuel Cell Ship, FCS)의 개발이 IMO의 규제를 벗어날 수 있는 대안인 것이다. 아시아, 북미, 유럽 등의 각국에서는 독자적으로 PEMFC를 개발 및 생산하여 국제공인등록 기관으로부터 형식승인인증을 획득함으로써 국제표준화의 선점을 추구하고 있다. 현재 다양한 연료전지(Fuel Cell, FC) 중에서 선박용으로 권장하는 것은 크게 고분자전해질 연료전지(PEMFC), 용융 탄산염 연료전지(MCFC) 및 고체산화물형 연료전지(SOFC) 등의 세종류가 있다. 본 연구에서는 글로벌 FC 시장에서 지속적인 성장이 예상되는 PEMFC를 대상으로 하여 국내외 개발 동향, 제조업체별 규격, 성능 및 선박에 적용한 실증적 사례를 분석하였다. 그리고 PEMFC를 선박에 적용할 경우, 고려해야 할 사항과 개발 방향에 관하여 제안하고자 하였다.

  • A series of total loss of log carriers of G/T 4000 class which are engaged in EAST-SOUTH ASIAN route have been reported during the last decade. The casualties has been investigated in depth to draw the efficient means of safety. The results of this investigation, which are described in this paper, have been submitted to INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANIZATION(IMO) by KOREAN GOVERNMENT in cooperation with the KOREAN REGISTER OF SHIPPING to request the revision of stability criteria of ship carrying timber deck cargoes.

  • 해상 교통 관제 시스템을 구축하기 위한 센서 장치 중, 자동식별장치(AIS, Automatic Identification System)는 핵심적인 역할을 수행하는 센서 장치다. AIS가 제공하는 메시지 중 국제해사기구(IMO, International Maritime Organization) Circ.289 권고안의 6번 및 8번 메시지를 통한 ASM (Application Specific Message)은 선박위치송출이라는 AIS 고유 목적을 넘어 AIS 활용 범위를 확대시킨 좋은 예이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 AIS-ASM 서비스를 분석하여 해상 안전 분야에 적용할 수 있는 방안을 제시하고, 더 나아가 일부 AIS-ASM 서비스의 개선 방안을 소개하고자 한다.

  • In the last years there have been some severe accidents with passenger vessels. So, International Maritime Organization(IMO) has recognized that computer stimulation of the evacuation may be required for passenger vessels. Human elements is a key issues of escape analysis on shipboard. There are technical requirements to simulate of escape analysis for human elements. Technical requirements include model of ship structure, evacuation algorithm, human behaviour analysis and influence of ship listing/motion. This paper provides the key issues and technologies of simulation for human escape on shipboard.

  • E-Navigation은 IMO(국제해사기구, International Maritime Organization)에서 최근 큰 이슈로 떠오르는 선박의 전자항법에 관한 주제로 국내외 선도적 해운 및 선박업체에서 큰 관심을 갖고 있다. 기존의 전자항법은 선박 내의 항해관련 부품 간의 유선통신을 기반으로 한다. 본 연구에서는 한국해양대학교에서 연구하는 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅을 도입하여 보다 진보적이고 다양한 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 U-Ship의 분야 중 진보된 전자항법서비스 구현을 위한 개념과 표준을 소개한다.

  • At present the identification of vessels is still depending on the OOW (Officer Of Wateh) in VTS (Vessel Traffic Service), which is completed by radar, and also by the combination of VHF radio and VHF direction finder. However, with the development of port transportation and economic, this conventional way of identification can't satisfy more and more request for the information that the VTS needs from the vessels. In such a case, the AIS(Automatic Identification System) precept which is based on STDMA (Self-organized Time Division Multiple Access) technique is put forward by IMO (International Maritime Organization). AIS can automatically provide the information, including own ship's identification, type, position, course, speed, and other information to the appropriately equipped coast station and other ships. At the same time it can also automatically monitor and track the nearby ships similarly fitted with AIS. On the basis of describing the whole comprising and the format of transmission information of AIS, this paper mainly studies the key communication techniques in AIS, such as STDMA protocol, net synchronization and GMSK(Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying)technique, and so on. At last this paper briefly introduces the recommendation decided by IMO on forcing the sea-going ships to fixed with AIS equipments, and it continuos with the unexploited potential of AIS if it applies in VTS.

Corrosion Behavior of Carbon Steel in Diluted Sulfuric Acid based on Seawater

  • The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will administer a new 0.5% global sulfur cap on fuel content from 1 January 2020, lowering from the present 3.5% limit. Seawater $SO_x$ (sulfur oxide) scrubbing is especially spray scrubbing and a promising alternative to complying with the IMO regulation. However, the ionization of $SO_2$ (sulfur dioxide) and the $H_2SO_4$ (sulfuric acid) formed from $SO_3$ (sulfur trioxide) is proposed to accelerate corrosion of the internal seawater pipe. Apparently, the corrosion of the scrubber seawater piping system occurs in a severe and frequent manner. Hence, in this study, electrochemical measurement and weight loss of carbon steel (used as seawater pipe in most of the ships) in diluted sulfuric acid solution were investigated to determine corrosion rate, corrosion current density, corrosion potential, electrochemical behavior, and impressed-current density. Accordingly, the corrosion rate of carbon steel sheet in various diluted sulfuric acid solutions was observed to be greater than that in natural seawater, thus suggesting the fundamental data to deal with corrosion problems in scrubber seawater pipe.

IMO Type C LNG 저장 탱크의 단열성능 및 구조적 건전성 평가 (Evaluation of Insulation Performance and Structural Integrity of an IMO Type C LNG Storage Tank)

  • Restrictions on the emissions of nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, carbon dioxide, and particulate matter from marine engines are being tightened. Each of these emissions requires different reduction technologies, which are costly and require many pieces of equipment to meet the requirements. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel has a great advantage in reducing harmful emissions emitted from ships. Therefore, the marine engine application of LNG fuel is significantly increasing in new ship buildings. Accordingly, this study analyzed the internal support structure, insulation type, and fuel supply piping system of a 35 m3 International Maritime Organization C type pressurized storage tank of an LNG-fueled ship. Analysis of the heat transfer characteristics revealed that A304L stainless steel has a lower heat flux than A553 nickel steel, but the effect is not significant. The heat flux of pearlite insulation is much lower than that of vacuum insulation. Moreover, the analysis results of the constraint method of the support ring showed no significant difference. A553 steel containing 9% nickel has a higher strength and lower coefficient of thermal expansion than A304L, making it a suitable material for cryogenic containers.

선박평형수 처리장치의 활성물질 농도에 관한 고찰 (Consideration on the Concentration of the Active Substances Produced by the Ballast Water Treatment System)

  • 국제해사기구(IMO)는 선박평형수를 통한 수중생물의 이동을 막기 위해, 2004년 선박 평형수와 침전물 통제 및 관리를 위한 국제협약을 채택하였다. 34개 선박평형수 처리장치가 IMO 활성물질 승인을 받았고, 이 가운데 20개 처리장치가 최종승인을 받았다. 본 논문에서는 IMO 활성물질 승인을 받은 처리장치에 대한 작용 원리와 총잔류산화제(TRO) 농도를 고찰하였다. TRO 최대 허용 배출 농도는 중화장치를 통해 낮추어 대부분 0.2 ppm 이하의 농도를 보였으나, 최대 처리 허용 농도는 장치별로 1-15 ppm으로 큰 차이를 나타내었다. 처리장치 별로 TRO 처리 허용 농도의 차이는 처리장치의 특성 및 필터의 유무와 종류 등과의 연관성 보다는 생물 사멸시험 시 생물종 특성과 수온, 탁도 등 수질 특성에 기인하는 바가 크다고 판단된다.

Prospect on IMO's Performance Standards for Protective Coatings (PSPC) Regulation for Ship's Water Ballast Tanks

  • In 2006, as a means to minimize early corrosion failure of ships, thus to enhance marine safety, International Maritime Organization (IMO), proposed a mandatory regulation for Performance Standards for the Protective Coatings (PSPC) for ballast tanks of newly built ships to satisfy 15 years of target useful life. In this regulation, several unprecedented strict rules are adopted as minimum, mandatory requirements for protective coatings of ship's water ballast tanks, and all type of ships sailing international sea are subjected to this regulation which is to be effective as early as June of 2008. The PSPC addresses many technical issues in the areas of surface pretreatment (primary and secondary), coating materials, coating application procedure and inspection as well as necessary documentation. The PSPC rules are new and unproven concepts, which calls for rigorous incorporation of reality-based evidences currently available, since there are no practical experiences in terms of the validity of the PSPC rules. There has been much controversy surrounding these regulations and considerable effort has been made by both shipyards and ship owners alike to achieve a performance standard for ballast tank coatings, which is acceptable to all. In this paper, the background and overview of the PSPC rules are given, and several issues in the PSPC are reviewed as a base to achieve robustness of the proposed PSPC, which will serve as a means to minimize early corrosion and to ensure 15 year target useful life of ships.
