  • A review is presented for various gas transport mechanisms through microporous membranes of both polymeric and inorganic materials. Different transport modes manifest depending on the pore size and the flow regime, which is a function of pressure, temperature, and the interaction between gas molecules and the pore walls. For microporous membranes whose pores are small and the internal surface area huge, the surface diffusion becomes a significant factor. If the pores become even smaller, then the transport mechanism will be more of an activated diffusion type. When conditions are right capillary condensation will take place to create an enormous capillary pressure gradient, which will greatly enhance the permeation flux. At the same time the capillary condensate of the heavier component may block the membrane pores denying the passage of the lighter gas molecules. All of these phenomena will influence the separation of mixtures.

  • The process of implementing risk management systems for the organizations in financial service industry can be viewed as a diffusion of innovation since the introduction of the risk management systems changes the decision making process on risks faced by the organizations. The purpose of the reported research is to examine the factors that affect the successful implementation of ALM(asset & liability management) systems, the risk management systems managing interest rate risk. Specifically, this paper presents an investigation of three factors from the diffusion of innovation studies; internal factors, external factors, and time. A field survey was conducted for Korean banks that have implemented ALM systems. The results suggest that the perceived uncertainty of market, system supports, and management supports be most significantly related to the successful implementation of the risk management systems. The findings of the current study also suggest a certain amount of time should be passed to diffuse the risk management systems in organizations.

  • The study carried out in this dissertation focuses on the lens structure design and the light distribution for LED safety luminaires using COB type LED module. Lens structures for LED lights has been designed 1) to induce light diffusion by dual process of internal reflection and refraction, 2) to minimize the inherent LED lights' glittering, and 3) to have uniform brightness. The lens designed with the proposed structures function as diffusers for the divergence of the LED lights so that they form a wide angle of view and adjust the light distribution. We designed of lens with stable uniformity factor and average roughness using aspheric optics property. Finally we made the analysis data of the simulated data.

  • The IIA structures exposed to marine environment is subject to many different types of potential attack. The physical attack due to drying and wetting would increase the internal stress of concrete. The chemical attack resulting from the diffusion of ions$(Cl^-,SO_4^{2-},Mg^+)$ from seawater through the pores in concrete. Therefore the sea water resistance of concrete must be considered when it is used for structure in the ocean. The objective of this study is to evaluate chloride diffusion and corrosion characteristics of concrete when using the various concrete materials under marine environment. After 5 years of exposure, concrete incorporating 40% blast-furnace slag as replacement for type I cement with low w/c ratio of 0.42 and using the inhibitor shows excellent performance.

  • Numerical solutions were obtained to the model equations for various parameters characterizing the pore structure, effective internal diffusion and the chemical reaction constant. The conversion was decreased with the cause of pore closure at the surface of reacting particles, reduction of porosity, surface area of reaction and effective diffusion coefficient in the solid with the progress of reaction. Total conversion was strongly depend on the local conversion at surface. According to the decreasing of impregnated concentration of the copper oxide and the increase of the flue gases concentration, total conversion was increased. And the conversion were affected by gas flow rate and pore size distribution of the reacting solid.

  • This study was conducted to clarify the heat load characteristics and heat and moisture behavior of underground structures. The authors achieved this by carrying out a numerical analysis using simple heat diffusion and simultaneous heat and moisture transfer equations based on measurement data. This paper presents the results of a numerical analysis on the heat load characteristics and heat and moisture behavior of an underground basement and its surrounding ground under a condition of internal heat generation. The authors found it difficult to predict the heat behavior and heat load of the underground basement by simple heat diffusion alone. Accurate prediction of the thermal environment and heat load requires careful consideration of the influences of moisture and precipitation

  • This study attempts to examine the acceptance factors of mSFA systems based on the innovation diffusion and technology acceptance model, and to measure the performance effects of mSFA systems using BSC metrics. Results show that (1) the characteristics of mobility and interactivity have positive impacts on perceived usefulness, ease of use, and professional fit. But the characteristics of personal identity were not perceived as useful due to users' negative feelings about privacy infringement and surveillance. (2) Job fit has positive impacts on perceived usefulness and professional fit. (3) Perceived usefulness, ease of use, and professional fit positively influence the degree of users' dependence on mSFA systems, which have positive impacts on users' performance measured by the personal BSC metrics including perspectives of finance, customer, internal process, and learning and growth.

  • Convection Current Circulation System(CCCS) in stratified reservoir controls development of anaerobic condition and algal bloom during summer. In order to increase the CCCS effectiveness, we analyze diverse design parameters to make optimize the flow pattern in reservoir. In this study, we interpret the internal flow with installation and operation condition of CCCS based on CFD in reservoir. Design variables of CCCS is reservoir depth, stratification strength, distance of between CCCS and so on. Since reservoir depth and stratification strength in variables is depending on natural phenomenon, we evaluated current circulation effect by distance of CCCS and proposed the optimal design condition using CFD simulation. Flow and diffusion changes in water body was assessed by temperature and dye test. Changes in water floor temperature at 40m intervals was slowly descending over 37 hours. Dye diffusion simulation at 60m intervals, the radius of the spread between two devices were overlapped after 12 hours.

  • Nitrocellulose [NC]-Poly(vinylamine) [PVAm] blended membranes with the change of amino group contents were prepared. The sorption and permeation of a mono-sulfonic acid dye, Orange II, in the membranes were investigated by the steady-state permeation method at $50^{\circ}C$ and pH 2.2. The results were discussed in the framework of dual sorption and diffusion theory. It was found that thesorption isotherms comprise a partition and two Langmuir type adsorption having similar binding constants. One of the latter sorption modes is due to unknown adsorption sites in NC and the other is due to the amino groups in PVAm. Apparent diffusion coefficients for collective P and L dye species, $D_P\; and D_L$, were obtained. Interpretation of $D_P$ values leads to two modes of partitions; one is such that dye is immobilized in NC and the other is the dissolution of the dye into the internal water phase.

  • We have investigated the kinetics of diffusion-influenced bimolecular reactions in which one reactant has an internal mode, called the gating mode, that activates or deactivates its reactivity intermittently. The rate law and an expression for the time-dependent rate coefficient have been obtained from the general formalism based on the hierarchy of kinetic equations involving reactant distribution functions. The analytic expression obtained for the steady-state reaction rate constant coincides with the one obtained by Szabo et al., who derived the expression by employing the conventional concentration-gradient approach. For the time-dependent reaction rate coefficient, we obtained for the first time an exact analytic expression in the Laplace domain which was then inverted numerically to give the time-domain results.
