  • This study examined salty taste acuity and salty taste preference and sodium intake in relation to zinc nutritional status in 2 rural populations in Korea. And we also examined the main food contributors of their sodium intakes. We enrolled 218 adults (66 men and 152 women) from the Kangneung and Samcheok regions in Korea's Kangwon province in our study conducted from December 2011 to February 2012. Participants from each region were divided into 3 groups based on their serum zinc level (T1: lowest, T2: intermediate, T3: highest). We compared the salty taste acuity and preference, Na index (Dish Frequency Questionnaire for estimation of habitual sodium intake), blood pressure, and intakes of nutrients including sodium by 3 groups of serum zinc level. The results were as follows: a higher serum zinc level indicated a lower sodium intake and Na index (P<0.05). The salty taste acuity was considerably higher for participants from the Kangneung region than those from the Samcheok region (P<0.05). And the serum zinc level was significantly higher in participants from the Kangneung region than those from the Samcheok region (P<0.05). We further divided the participants into 2 groups: those who consumed more zinc than the recommended intake (RI) and the others. We compared salty taste acuity and salty taste preference in the 2 groups. The salty taste threshold and palatable salty taste concentrations were lower for the group with a zinc intake above RI than for the group with zinc intake below the RI. However, the difference was not significant. This study confirms that taste function differs depending on zinc nutritional status. In future, it is required to a large-scale, long-term, prospective study on the correlation between zinc intake, serum zinc levels, and taste perception function and blood pressure.

  • This paper describes an efficient design of the interpolation circuit to generate the luma and chroma sub-pixels for H.264 motion estimation. The circuit based on the proposed architecture does not require any input data buffering and processes the horizontal, vertical and diagonal sub-pixel interpolations in parallel. The performance of the circuit is further improved by simultaneously processing the 1/2-pixel and 1/4-pixel interpolations for luma components and the 1/8-pixel interpolations for chroma components. In order to reduce the circuit size, we store the intermediate data required to process all the interpolations in parallel in the internal SRAM's instead of registers. We described the proposed circuit at register transfer level and verified its operation on FPGA board. We also synthesized the gate-level circuit using 130nm CMOS standard cell library. It consists of 20,674 gates and has the maximum operating frequency of 244MHz. The total number of SPSRAM bits used in our circuit is 3,232. The size of our circuit (including logic gates and SRAM's) is smaller than others and the performance is still comparable to them.

  • An efficient regeneration system was developed using leaf, petiole, and internode explants. Highly embryogenic callus was obtained following cultivation on MS basal nutrient supplemented with 2 $mg/{\ell}$ 2,4-D. Globular, heart, torpedo and cotyledon shaped somatic embryo were produced from the surface of embryogenic callus. Direct shoot regeneration without intermediate callus formation has been achieved on MS medium supplemented NAA and BAP. The percentage of response varies with different concentration of auxin and cytokinin treated individually or in combination. The best shoot regeneration response (54.28%) and number of shoot per explant (12.67) were achieved on the medium supplemented with 0.1 $mg/{\ell}$ NAA and 1 $mg/{\ell}$ BAP. The regenerated shoot transformed into young plant when cultured into elongation and root induction medium. More than 90% of in vitro propagated plants could survive when transferred to the greenhouse for acclimation. This optimized regeneration system can be used for rapid shoot proliferation and genetic transformation.

  • Rapid backpulsing to reduce membrane fouling of hollow fiber ultrafiltration module (polyacrylonitrile with 50000 l'vlWCO, 1.4 rom OD and 0,9 mm ID) was studied with latex solutions. Values estimated by a theoretical model were compared with the ones obtained from the systems with or without backpulsing, Specific Cake resistance, time consUmt for cake growth, diffusion coefficient, and the rate constants of fnur fouling models; the complete, intermediate. standard blocking and cake filtration were calculated to obtain the theoretical values. High frequency backpulsing gave net increase of fluxes by 40~120%. Fluxes predicted by the model were in good agreement with experimental ones within 14% error bound, The optimum backpulsing strength was acquired at 20% in the ranges of 20~40% strength and the optimum frequcncv was acquired at 2 Hz in the ranges of 0.67~3 Hz.

  • In this paper, We proposed a broadband RF amplifier for Microwave band receiver. We also proposed a broadband RF amplifier, designed by using EM simulation for reliable amplification of the received signal. Connected to a source terminal to via, it minimizes those which are the active elements of source-side oscillation as the operating element in an ideal GND, and a constant gain characteristic in a broadband. The goal of this was to obtain stable amplification characteristics. For implementing this architecture, we designed the broadband(500 MHz ~ 7 GHz) RF amplifier by using commercial GaAs FET, which operate on 720 MHz, 4,595 MHz, and 6,035 MHz by impedance matching. The voltage gain is 10.635 dB ~ 14.407 dB(737.5 MHz ~ 6.0575 GHz), P1dB is 20 dBc of band(1st harmonic/2nd harmonic).

  • In this paper, we present a novel segmentation method that can extract new foreground objects from a current frame in real-time. It is performed by detecting differences between the current frame and reference frame taken from a fixed camera. We minimize computing complexity for real-time video processing. First DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) is utilized to generate rough binary segmentation maps where foreground and background regions are separated. DCT shows better result of texture analysis than previous methods where texture analysis is performed in spatial domain. It is because texture analysis in frequency domain is easier than that in special domain and intensity and texture in DCT are taken into account at the same time. We maximize run-time efficiency of DCT by considering color information to analyze object region prior to DCT process. Last we use Guided filter for natural matting of the generated binary segmentation map. In general, Guided filter can enhance quality of intermediate result by incorporating guidance information. However, it shows some limitations in homogeneous area. Therefore, we present an additional method which can overcome them.

  • This is the first study in which genetic variability and relationships of a large number of Japanese chicken breeds were revealed along with those of several foreign breeds by using microsatellite DNA polymorphisms. Twenty-eight breeds (34 populations) of native Japanese chickens and seven foreign breeds or varieties were analyzed. The mean number of alleles per locus, the proportion of the polymorphic loci, and the expected average heterozygosity ranged from 1.75 to 4.70, from 0.55 to 1.00, and from 0.21 to 0.67, respectively. Microsatellite alleles being unique to a particular population were detected in some populations. The $D_A$ genetic distance between populations was obtained from allele frequency for every pair of the populations to construct a neighbor-joining tree. According to the phylogenetic tree, excluding a few exceptions, native Japanese chicken breeds and foreign breeds were clearly separated from each other. Furthermore, the tree topology divided native Japanese chickens into four main classes, which was almost in accordance with the classification based on body morphology; that is, (1) Cochin type, (2) Malay type, (3) layer type, and (4) intermediate type between Malay and layer types. This is the first finding for native Japanese chickens.

  • In this proper, we proposes a robust watermarking against the lossy compression in the Hadamard domain. The Hadamard matrix consists of only 1 or -1 and can be computed veru fast. The Hadamrd transform has the inverse transform therefore it is able to be applied into the watermarking technology. In embedding process, we select 10 coefficients from intermediate frequency domain and create two watermark patterns. In extraction process, we use the watermark patterns and compare them to detect the watermark information. When we use the standard image ($512{\times}512$) and binary watermark image ($64{\times}64$), the results of these examines are PSNR for $38{\sim}42dB$ and BER for $3.9{\sim}12.5%$. The JPEG QF between 30 and100, naked human eyes can detect to watermark image easily. The experimental results show that performance of Hadamard domain is better than those of DCT, FFT, and DWT.

  • The fine structure of palisade chloroplasts has been studied in the mature leaves of 3 Dubautia species (D. scabra var. leiophylla, D. knudsenii and D. scabra var. leiophylla${\times}$D. knudsenii) to explore variation at the ultrastructural level, since the parental species exhibit quite different morphological and anatomical features. Types of thylakoidal membrane systems, occurrence and distribution of phytoferritin-like structures, lipid droplets, starch grains, mitochondria and microbodies were examined. Four different types of thylakoidal membranes were found in D. scabra var. leiophylla, 2 rather uniform types in D. knudsenii and 3 intermediate types in their hybrid. D. scabra var. leiophylla and the hybrid were marked by statistically significant differences in mean numbers of thylakoids per granum, while no significant difference was found between D. knudsenii and the hybrid. Phytoferritin-like structures which were about $100-120{\AA}$ in diameter as a whole particle each were found in all 3 species. The amount and distribution of particles varied by species. Lipid droplets, plastoglobuli, and starch grains occurred in all 3 species, but the frequency of starch grains also varied with the species. More frequent and larger starch grains were observed in D. knudsenii than in the other two species. Microbodies, or peroxisome, were observed throughout all species. They occurred, either with or without crystalline inclusions, around the chloroplasts.

  • In this paper, we performed the design and the development of the wide-band correlation board to be an important role in the autocorrelation spectrometer's building for the observation study of an extra-galaxy's spectral lines and the survey research of the special radio sources in field of the radio astronomy. In this research, the developed correlation board by using QUAINT correlator chip(made by NRAO) has maximum 100 MHz clock speed and operate at a intermediate frequency with 400 MHz bandwidth. For the Performance test we supply the 0.5 and 1.67 MHz rectangular wave, then we obtain the autocorrelation coefficients. The final results, which process by using FFT, get the almost same results compare with the theoretical correlation.
