Theoretical construction of solar wind proton temperature anisotropy versus beta inverse correlation

  • In situ observations from the Wind spacecraft that statistically analyzed the solar wind proton at 1 AU has indicated that the measured proton temperature anisotropies seems to be regulated by the oblique instabilities (the mirror and oblique firehose). This result is in contradiction with the prediction of linear kinetic theory that the ion-cyclotron (for ${\beta}_{\parallel}$ < 2) and parallel firehose (for ${\beta}_{\parallel}$ <10) would dominate over the oblique instabilities. Various kinds of physical mechanisms have been suggested to explain this disagreement between the observations and linear theory. All of the suggestions consider the solar wind as a unoform magnetized plasma. However the real space environment is replete with the intermediate spatio-temporal scale variations associated with various physical quantities, such as the magnetic field intensity and the solar wind density. In this paper we present that the pervasive intermediate-scale temporal variation of the local magnetic field intensity can lead to the modification of the proton temperature anisotropy versus beta inverse correlation for temperature-anisotropy-driven instabilities. By means of quasilinear kinetic theory involving such temporal variation, we construct the simulated solar wind proton data distribution associated the magnetic fluctuations in (${\beta}_{\parallel}$, $T_{\perp}/T_{\parallel}$) space. It is shown that the theoretically simulated proton distribution and a general trend of the enhanced fluctuations bounded by the oblique instabilities are consistent with in situ observations. Furthermore, the measure magnetic compressibility can be accounted for by the magnetic spectral signatures of the unstable modes.

  • We carried out simultaneous 22GHz $H_2O$ and 44GHz $CH_3OH$ maser line surveys of about 1000 galactic YSOs using KVN 21m telescopes. The sources consist of low-mass, intermediate-mass, high-mass YSOs in different evolutionary stages. We will present the preliminary results.

  • The structure of the magnetic funnel element in the intermediate polar is con-sidered in terms of an important site for the X-ray absorption and the reemis-sion of the X-ray as the optical light. In this paper the column density and the optiacl depth vary with the filling factor, which is introduced to characterize the structure of matter in the magnetic funnel element. The results of the en-ergy dopendence of the X-ray spectrum and the modulation depth of the X-ray light curve are discussed.

A KMTNet search for RR Lyrae Stars in the Crater II Ultra-Faint Dwarf Galaxy

  • We report the first detection of RR Lyrae variable stars in the Crater II dwarf galaxy, a recently discovered ultra-faint satellite of the Milky Way. Based on B, V time series photometry obtained with the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) at CTIO, Chile, we have identified ~45 fundamental-mode (ab-type) and ~2 first-overtone (c-type) RR Lyrae stars by adopting template light-curve fitting method. Our preliminary analysis suggests an Oosterhoff-intermediate classification of this galaxy from the mean period of the RRab stars, <$P_{ab}$> ${\simeq}0.63$ days, and the location of them on the period-amplitude diagram. We discuss the properties of the RR Lyare stars in this galaxy.

Alignment estimation performance of Multiple Design Configuration Optimization for three optical systems

  • In this study, we investigated alignment state estimation performances of the three methods i.e. merit function regression (MFR), differential wavefront sampling (DWS) and Multiple Design Configuration Optimization (MDCO). The three target optical systems are 1) a two-mirror Cassegrain system for deep space Earth observation, 2) intermediate size three-mirror anastigmat for Earth ocean monitoring, and 3) extremely large segmented optical system for astronomical observation. We ran alignment state estimation simulation for several alignment perturbation cases including 1mm to 10mm in decenter and from 0.1 to 1 degree in tilt perturbation error for the two-mirror Cassegrain system. In general, we note that MDCO shows more competitive estimation performance than MFR and DWS. The computational concept, case definition and the simulation results are discussed with implications to future works.

효율적인 수퍼샘플링과 선-적분을 이용한 고화질 쉬어-왑 분해 볼륨 렌더링 (High-quality Shear-warp Volume Rendering Using Efficient Supersampling and Pre-integration Technique)

  • 쉬어-왑 분해 렌더링은 볼륨 렌더링 방법 중 가장 빠르지만 영상의 화질이 좋지 않다는 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 쉬어-왑 렌더링의 빠른 속도를 유지하며 화질을 개선하는 방법을 제안한다. 화질 개선의 첫 번째 방법은 중간영상(intermediate image) 기반의 수퍼샘플링(supersampling) 기법이다. 객체 좌표와 영상 좌표간의 변환을 효율적으로 수행하여 임의 비율의 영상 확대를 빠르게 수행한다. 화질 개선의 두 번째 방법은 선-적분(pre-integrated) 렌더링을 사용하는 것이다. 기존의 선-적분 기반 쉬어-왑 렌더링은 빈-공간 도약(empty space leaping)을 하지 못하여 속도가 저하되는 문제가 있지만, 본 연구에서 제안하는 겹친 최소-최대 지도(overlapped min-max map) 자료구조를 사용하면 빈-공간 도약을 수행하여 속도 문제를 해결한다. 본 제안 방법을 통해 광선추적법(ray-tracing) 수준의 고화질 렌더링 영상을 빠른 시간에 생성할 수 있다.
