The purpose of this study was to analyze research trends in post-occupancy evaluation and to explore Improvement Directions. Also this study investigated historical development of domestic POE researches and current discussions to POE in architecture and interior design fields. The results were as follows. For the purpose of this study, 55 articles from 3 journals were selected and analyzed. 55 articles analyzing POE methodology and applying POE method were published from 1990 to 2010. In the 1990s, studies on introduction of POE method, potential and limitation were conducted. In the 2000s, the research theme showed the study for evaluation of apartment measuring the residents satisfaction. Gathering the opinions of designers and people in architecture field, they have recognized the need to perform POE, indeed it has been difficult to find POE researchers and utilized POE data. Nevertheless, some of them have performed POE of their building and got feedback from residents. In conclusion, to apply POE method and develop its potential, it is necessary to minimize the barriers. It should Therefore, be performed POE by stakeholders who are designers, builders and residents and POE data would be provided a variety of types. Furthermore, POE certification system should be designed at the government level and basically, POE courses must be included in the architectural curriculum.
Since late 1960s, we have had the discourse about the way of succession of korean traditional architectural heritage. Through 60s and 70s, the formal mimesis and transformation was pretty much dominated in domestic design currents. After 80s, we could see a kind of different ways of design to deal with traditions in architectural practices. These methodology can be summarized as spatiality, abstraction and diversity. These discourses acted as bases for aesthetic and formal stream which might be needed to present the formal possibilities for various commercial needs. Especially, the interior design field utilized those ideas in order to show korean identity for the commercial needs such as korean restaurant, korean bar, or korean costume shop. Interior designers positively adapted the ideas from architectural discourse and created their own vocabulary after 90s. Before 90s, interior designers did very representational mimesis to express korean identity designing commercial facilities. However from mid 90s they could establish new tendencies in expressing korean traditional moods. Double skin façade is known that several features affected the building energy and daylighting performance. That is why the envelope is able to consist of all architectural materials such as glass, aluminum, wood and insulation for vision of residents and workers in buildings. Its specifications is very diverse according to the building designers and building owners. In recent times, visual environment became a major focus and resulted in the development of cutting edge engineering of diverse glazing systems and shading devices by growing interests of friendly environment. Thus this research has evaluated the fluctuations of interior lighting and atmospheric conditions based on double skin facade systems. Especially in terms of daylighting environment as dependent on solar variations, this research provides quantitative analysis of interior lighting conditions and how it affects the living conditions as well as improve the design of interior spaces.
The purpose of this study is to provide a practical guide for selecting architectural artwork and analyze relationship between artwork and interior space & facade. The problems with many outdoor artwork did not make the characteristics of the specific environment and did not form a big flow in the urban contextualism. Choosing the artwork, architectural environment for artwork is very much part of the designers' task. When artwork is to be specifically acquired for a particular projects, designer and client must work together to make choices and plan placement. The data are collected through evaluation surveys of college students and graduate students majoring in interior architecture & design, and analyzed by using SPSS-WIN program to find the major characterized factors. It is concluded that architectural artwork should be constituted with nine major factors of interior space - theme/scale, situation/contemporay accord, finished materials harmony, line/two-three dimensional form, proportion/rhythm, sequence, natural/artificial form, abstract/reality expression, originality - and eight major factors of facade - situation, abstract/reality expression, finished materials harmony, theme/sequence, natural/artificial form, proportion/rhythm, static/dynamic expression, originality/. contemporay accord.
There lies more subjectivity in the methods and process of showing the Koreaness, and design methods cannot be defined with only one answer key, which is probable to cause much difficulty. Until now, the traditional Korean features have been tried by quite a few designers whose approaches deserves for the reference to understand the trends of expressing the Koreaness and develop the ways of its expression. Therefore, this study first considers the trial processes of design methods in reconsidering the Koreaness done by many artists in terms of previous studies and researches. Then this tries to make a frame to analyze the Koreaness theoretically after studying the approaches knowledge about traditional architecture designs widely used as design concepts, and to examine specific cases which reflects them in their interior architecture. All of these studies are aimed at get the understandings on trends and methods demonstrating the Koreaness in modern interior design. This study ranges from the artists, who have made efforts to express Koreaness in 1990s and after, to their artworks. As study methods, pre-study and reference researches had been done to examine the knowledge factors on the ground of the theory of D.G Jansson, to give a theory to the understanding of its methods and tendencies, and to build the frame for case analysis. As a result, in traditional architecture, spacial design gets the prominent priority and other factors are not far from different. In formative approachesthe expression inclination on material factor is outstanding. Consequently, these two approaches have analytic elements in difference but spacial design and materiality have prominently in common to express the Koreaness.
The blur phenomenon obscuring the boundary between the field of designers and that of users may be the key paradigm in the 21st century. However, we observed a number of chair design cases that could be considered as the results of blur pheonomenon in the furniture design field from mid 1960s. The backgrounds include the repulsion against the uniform functionalism, deliberation on the life in the future and the development of plastic materials and their processing methods. Under such backgrounds, the designers pursued the new and futuristic furniture design. In that process, what is about the "freedom" that the consumers as well as the designers should have in using the furniture was the important concept. This concept enabled the creation of chair design inducing the participation of consumers. They created various kinds of shapes, functions and structures that the consumers became interested in as if they had fun with toy blocks by mainly using the new material "plastic". In a formative aspect, the entire shape is classified into the organic shape and geometric shape. The unit types are divided into two kinds; type that the unit of simple shape is repeated only with size difference and irregular combination type of the units comprised of more than two shapes. In the functional aspect, some cases showed the transformation and expansion of the function more variously. Other cases changed the function of chairs to tables, cabinets, or objects. In the structural aspect, on the basis of the method assembling each unit, one method is to assemble using the hardware and the other is to assemble only with intrinsic units of chair. The chair design created by the blur phenomenon between the designers and the users as described above causes the blur phenomenon between the furniture and the space where the furniture is installed. Accordingly, it is expanding the furniture design sphere including the case that the furniture is not selected as the rifle article depending on the characteristics of interior space but it becomes the element leading the characteristics of space. This study aims to estimate the change of interior space and the furniture that my cause the blur phenomenon by examining the cases above appropriate for the paradigm of the 21st century. Furthermore, this study will enable the discussion oil the directions of future furniture design based on its results.

The methods have characteristics that are either static or dynamic and either monoscopic or stereoscopic. In terms of representing interior spaces and perceiving interior spaces, the dynamic characteristic is more helpful than the static characteristic because the dynamic characteristic provides consecutively changing views of interior spaces when people walk around within the spaces. The stereoscopic characteristic is more helpful than the monoscopic characteristic because the stereoscopic characteristic provides the binocular depth perception. Full-scale models, small-scale models, virtual reality that have dynamic and stereoscopic characteristics, are most effective. The next effective methods are video taping of models and computer animation that have dynamic and monoscopic characteristics. The last effective methods are perspectives and photography of models that have static and monoscopic characteristics. But the most effective methods can not be said that those are perfect because each of them still has limits. Designers have to consider the limits of each perceptual presentation method to find a way that shows their designs most effectively. To develop the perceptual presentation methods of interior design, researchers should focus on the helpful characteristics that are dynamic and stereoscopic.
This paper has focused on comprehending the interior designs and characteristics of modern department stores in Korea by looking into the birth and changes of those built under the Japanese Forced Occupation Period. The first modem department stores including Mitsukoshi, Georgia and Hwashin Department Stores began to appear in Korea under the Japanese Colonial Rule. They considered a variety of architectural elements like construction planning, shop arrangement, path of customer movement and interior design. The interior of modem department stores aimed to pursue the so-called modernization movement, but failed to fully contain the unique characteristics of the times in that particular period. Modem department stores took on new western styles prevailed in Korea and were characterized by the eclecticism in which various architectural forms exist together. In other words, their interiors implied a sign of the times in the confusing and corrupt world then. Especially those modern department stores were designed, repaired and extended by foreign designers who were ignorant of the history of Korean architecture. What is worse, their further remodelling practices made big mistakes by considering only functional and economical aspects and giving a back seat to the architectural and historical value of existing modern department stores. Therefore, we should make more efforts to study and conserve the fundamentals of modem architectures like modem department stores in order to have better understanding of the aesthetic value of indoor space and facilitating smooth communication between past and present.
