  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the methods of the decorations using module plants in interior spaces. This research produced 18 types of the module plant decoration: considering the classifications of module plants(soil, hydroculture, moss), directions of module plants (up, side, down), assembling ways of module plants (horizontal, vertical). Applying these 18 types to the interior space decoration (floor stand, wall attach, ceiling hanging), 54 types were classified. After that, 150 cases of the decoration using module plants in interior spaces were collected and analyzed. In result, the cases were belong to 25 types of 54 types. The important types were the types to be able to decorate wide area of walls or ceilings without occupying floor area: SOIL-UP-VERTICAL, HYDROCULTURE-UP-VERTICAL, MOSS-SIDE-VERTICAL. These types were the decorations with function of bio-filter for air cleaning. Special types were SOIL-SIDE-HORIZONTAL, SOIL-SIDE-VERTICAL with soil developed not to pour and SOIL-DOWN-HORIZONTAL, SOIL-DOWN-VERTICAL with lucks not to pour soil. Plants will be used widely in interior design because of the awareness of eco-friendly design. The strength that module plants are portable, changable, able to exchange parts helps users to maintain plants in interior spaces. For designers, module plants are flexible materials in order to make variety of forms to adjust to interior spaces. The results of this research about methods of the decorations using module plants in interior spaces are useful to designers who want to design interior spaces eco-friendly and user-friendly.

  • The purpose of this study was to categorize the decorative characteristics of the Rococo Age, which displays the most glamorous and elegant decorative beauty, in architecture, interior decorations, paintings, and patterns, and to analyze these characteristics and graft them onto art masks in a modern way. Piece I is a mixed media piece that based its motif on the ceilings and pulpits of the German Vis Pilgrimage Church, which is representative architecture of the Rococo Age. It was glamorously produced using gold and cubic zirconia. Piece II is also a mixed media piece that borrowed its motif from the exterior and gazebo of the Sanssouci Palace in Germany, another representative piece of architecture from the Rococo Age, and it was produced to clearly display the image of the Sanssouci Palace, using emerald and ivory. Piece III applies the furniture trends of the Rococo Age. Curves in S and C shapes, which can often be found in Chinese furniture, along with dark backgrounds, common in portrait paintings, were applied to give a sense of weight and dignity. Piece IV is an application of the fabric patterns of the Rococo Age. Continuous patterns of flowers and greenery stems were drawn on the mask to recreate the fabric patterns of the age. Piece V used the painting 'Swing' of the Rococo Age as its inspiration. Lace and ribbon decorations were used to emphasize feminine beauty and express the loveliness of the woman that appears in the painting. Piece VI borrows from the painting 'Madame de Pompadour' of the Rococo Age and the clothing worn by Pompadour. This piece grafted colors and themes through the painting and expressed a fusion of the dresses of Pompadour and lace that is clearly displayed in the architecture, paintings, clothing, interior decorations, and patterns of the Rococo Age, along with the rocaille (asymmetrically shaped decorations that resemble clams), flowers, leaves, stems, and Chinoiserie styles. These motifs clearly display the decorative characteristics of the age and these were grafted them onto art masks, confirming that it is possible to create new designs.

  • The goal of this paper is to explore the relationship between modern architecture and interior decoration through the study of decoration and ornament. It is noteworthy that modern architecture and interior decoration occurred at about the same time. Our analysis shows that the two are closely related to each other. That is to say, modern architecture tried to eliminate ornaments (and decorations), symbols and meanings from the built environments and to embody efficiency and rationality instead. However, in the interior of the building designed and completed by the architect, the user began to decorate his world through decoration or to refer such work to the new expert 'interior decorator'. In a word, the latter took charge of the role deserted by modern architecture.

  • The vocabulary of modern grand hotels' interior designs reflects western design patterns, showing its nostalgia for modern architecture. And it also contains the trace of past designs implanted by others then, expressing the hardships of Korean history. Like this, the past architectural style distorted under the Japanese imperialistic rule has continued to exist until now without any significant changes, because there has been little effort to figure out the history of modern interior designs. And also there has been the lack of data and aesthetic descriptions about the modern interior designs that contain the historical nature of society. Therefore, this study will review the interior design of modern buildings, which trace back to the fawning of the Korean Interior Design. And it aims to understand the hotel interior's expressive characteristics and historical meanings by paying a particular attention to its lost parts. And it also alms to have a significant meaning in taking the first step toward a clue of the history of Korean modern interiors by systematically putting in order the ever-disappearing materials of modern hotel interiors.

Reviewing literature and visiting site were applied as the research method. Javanese House can be divided into three parts; roof, wall and floor. First, the roof of the traditional Javanese House is the most unique and important decorative element. The roofs are covered with roof-tiles and have clay carving ornaments on top. Usually there are no ceilings, just exposed to the oblique shape roof, which are made of wood to enable air ventilation. Joglo roof is the outstanding and representative roof type of Javanese houses. There is artistic and constructive roof structure named as tumpang sari in Joglo roof. The decoration on tumpang sari is the most colorful and symbolic ornaments. Secondly, the most unique element in the wall is the gebyok. Gebyok is made of wood and full of carved ornament, which has an artistic appearance, and also important function. The top part of doors are designed as perforated woodcarving, which give both aesthetic and ventilation purposes. Last, the stratified floor is begin with ground yard, then veranda that made from hardened clay, and main room constituted with a wood scaffold to provide air circulation and remove the humidity of the ground. The decorations of the column stand (umpak) are unique, where usually lotus flower is carved into black stone or lime stone. • The purpose of this study is to inquire original design and character of dancheong in Yeongnamnu P avilion which features unusual portraits of twisting dragons and four heavenly creatures. Its artistic value and originality can be found in the portraits of four heavenly creatures which are painted on the interior seonjayeon(fan shape rafter) and in the unique design of crossbeam meoricho(flower decorations on each side of pillars). Yeongnamnu's crossbeam meoricho is janggu-meoricho type(meoricho with hourglass figure) with full-shape lotus and half-shape flower decorations. And it can be said that, dragon portrait painted on the border of lotus and flower decorations in green and yellow is a very unique style of dancheong, for the reason that it has scarcely been used before and ever since. The portrait of four heavenly creatures painted on each corner of seonjayeon is also found to be unique in design, for the reason that the design has rarely been used throughout history, with only two exceptions in mural tombs of Goguryeo and folding screen in Injeongjeon Hall of Changdeokgung P alace. With its unique and authentic feature along with its rarity in number, the portrait of four heavenly creatures painted on Yeongnamnu can be considered as quite symbolic and important.
