InSb has received great attentions as a promising candidate for the active layer of infrared photodetectors due to the well matched band gap for the detection of $3{\sim}5\;{\mu}m$ infrared (IR) wavelength and high electron mobility (106 cm2/Vs at 77 K). In the fabrication of InSb photodetectors, passivation step to suppress dark currents is the key process and intensive studies were conducted to deposit the high quality passivation layers on InSb. Silicon dioxide (SiO2), silicon nitride (Si3N4) and anodic oxide have been investigated as passivation layers and SiO2 is generally used in recent InSb detector fabrication technology due to its better interface properties than other candidates. However, even in SiO2, indium oxide and antimony oxide formation at SiO2/InSb interface has been a critical problem and these oxides prevent the further improvement of interface properties. Also, the mechanisms for the formation of interface phases are still not fully understood. In this study, we report the quantitative analysis of indium and antimony oxide formation at SiO2/InSb interface during plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition at various growth temperatures and subsequent heat treatments. 30 nm-thick SiO2 layers were deposited on InSb at 120, 160, 200, 240 and $300^{\circ}C$, and analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). With increasing deposition temperature, contents of indium and antimony oxides were also increased due to the enhanced diffusion. In addition, the sample deposited at $120^{\circ}C$ was annealed at $300^{\circ}C$ for 10 and 30 min and the contents of interfacial oxides were analyzed. Compared to as-grown samples, annealed sample showed lower contents of antimony oxide. This result implies that reduction process of antimony oxide to elemental antimony occurred at the interface more actively than as-grown samples.

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) have drawn great academic attention due to their potential as low-cost renewable energy sources. DSCs contain a nanostructured TiO2 photoanode, which is a key-component for high conversion efficiency. Particularly, one-dimensional (1-D) nanostructured photoanodes can enhance the electron transport for the efficient collection to the conducting substrate in competition with the recombination processes. This is because photoelectron colletion is determined by trapping/detrapping events along the site of the electron traps (defects, surface states, grain boundaries, and self-trapping). Therefore, 1-D nanostructured photoanodes are advantageous for the fast electron transport due to their desirable features of greatly reduced intercrystalline contacts with specified directionality. In particular, anodic TiO2 nanotube (NT) electrodes recently have been intensively explored owing to their ideal structure for application in DSCs. Besides the enhanced electron transport properties resulted from the 1-D structure, highly ordered and vertically oriented nanostructure of anodic TiO2 NT can contribute additional merits, such as enhanced electrolyte diffusion, better interfacial contact with viscous electrolytes. First, to confirm the advantages of 1-D nanostructured material for the photoelectron collection, we compared the electron transport and charge recombination characteristics between nanoparticle (NP)- and nanorod (NR)-based photoanodes in DSCs by the stepped light-induced transient measurements of photocurrent and voltage (SLIM-PCV). We confirmed that the electron lifetime of the NR-based photoanode was much longer than that of the NP-based photoanode. In addition, highly ordered and vertically oriented TiO2 NT photoanodes were prepared by electrochemical anodization method. We compared the photovoltaic properties of DSCs utilizing TiO2 NT photoanodes prepared by one-step anodization and two-step anodization. And, to reduce the charge recombination rate, energy barrier layer (ZnO, Al2O3)-coated TiO2 NTs also applied in DSC. Furthermore, we applied the TiO2 NT photoanode in DSCs using a viscous electrolyte, i.e., cobalt bipyridyl redox electrolyte, and confirmed that the pore structure of NT array can enhance the performances of this viscous electrolyte.

Effects of various parameters on bond property between reinforcing bar and concrete are investigated in many researchers, and various study is on going to improve the bond strength. Properties of interface between reinforcement and concrete is important role in bond property. This study analyzed the interfacial bond mechanism between deformed bar and concrete by finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate the effect of rib shape. The FEA model in this study is simplified 2D plane stress model. The variables of analysis are selected by rib angle, rib height, rib spacing and relative rib area. From the results of analysis, reinforcing bars with rib angle $30{\sim}60^{\circ}$ showed better bond strength than the others. Bond strength ratio following to the rib height is proportionally increased up to the $0.12d_b$, but rib spacing has little effect on bond strength. The results also indicated that relative rib area can be efficiently represented the properties of deformed shape in reinforcing bars, and zigzagged rib height shape showed excellent bond strength increase.
Stone board for the rock bed was needed to reduce weight using thin thickness and reinforced materials. In this work, stone/wood board for rock bed was studied. Stone and wood were attached to reduce total weight of stone for rock bed. For reinforcing wood heat treatment method was used to change surface and mechanical properties. Mechanical strength of heat treated wood increased more than neat condition. The optimum heat treatment condition was set on $100^{\circ}C$ under tensile, flexural loads whereas surface energy was also obtained by contact angle measurement. Optimum adhesive condition was to get the maximum adhesion between stone and wood. Lap shear test was performed for stone/wood board with different adhesives such as amine type epoxy, polyurethane, chloro-rubber and vinyl chloride acetate type. Fracture surface of lap shear test was shown at wood fracture part on stone using amine type epoxy adhesive. It was found that for high adhesion between stone and wood the optimum adhesive was epoxy type for the rock bed.
PA66/EPDM/PP-g-MA and PA66/EPDM-g-MA/PP-g-MA composites were manufactured by a modular intermeshing twin screw extruder for enhanced low temperature impact resistance with different content of PP-g-MA. The results showed that composite containing 90 wt% of PA66, 8 wt% of EPDM-g-MA, and 2 wt% of PP-g-MA has a optimum value in the thermal and mechanical properties. The characteristics of the composites were analyzed by TGA, DSC, and SEM. From above results, we established that the low interfacial strength and the impact resistance at low temperature shown in a pre-existing PP/EPDM composite were enhanced by grafting with compatibilizer such as maleic anhydride. These results show the possibility of local manufacturing process and cost down with optimum screw configuration for best mixing quality in the twin screw extruder.
In this work, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)/polyetherimide (PEI) blends were cured using 4,4-diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM). And the effects of addition of different PEI contents to neat DGEBA were investigated in the thermal properties and fracture toughness of the blends. The contents of contents of containing PEI were varied in 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10 phr. The cure activation energies ($E_a$) of the cured specimens were determined by Kissinger equation and the mechanical interfacial properties of the specimens were performed by critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$). Also their surfaces were examined by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the surface energetics of blends was determined by contact angles. As a result, $E_a$ and $K_{IC}$ showed maximum values in the 7.5 phr PEI. This result was interpreted in the increment of the network structure of DGEBA/PEI blends. Also, the surface energetics of the DGEBA/PEI blends showed a similar behavior with the results of $K_{IC}$. This was probably due to the improving of specific or polor component of the surface free energy of DGEBA/PEI blends, resulting in increasing the hydrogen bonding of the hydroxyl and imide groups of the blends.
Maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene has been widely used to improve the interfacial interaction between the components in PP/polar polymer blends and PP/filler composites and to maximize the physical properties and thermal properties. In this paper. the maleic anhydride (MAH)-grafted polypropylene (co-PP) was fabricated through reactive extrusion process with di-cumyl peroxide (DCP) as an initiator. The grafting degree of MAH depending on the contents of DCP and MAH was investigated by FT-IR spectra and chemical titration. The grafting degree increased with increasing MAH concentration and also showed maximum value at 0.06 wt% of DCP concentration. Melt flow index (MFI) of the grafted copolymer was increased with increasing the contents of MAH. The DSC and TGA analysis data indicate the melting temperature and thermal degradation of PP depending on the grafting degree of MAH.
In the present study, when the surface of kenaf, which is an environmentally friendly natural fiber, was treated by using adhesive solution containing Chemlok 402, the effects of fiber surface treatment, fiber content and fiber length on the cure characteristics, hardness, tensile modulus and abrasion resistance of kenaf/natural rubber composites were investigated. The kenaf fiber contents consisting of the composites were varied with 0, 5, 10, 15, and 29 phr at a fixed fiber length of 2 mm and also the fiber length was varied with 2, 35, and 70 mm at a fixed fiber content of 5 phr. The Tmax and tc90 values, Shore A hardness, tensile modulus, and abrasion resistance of natural rubber composites strongly depended on the kenaf fiber content and length. The characteristics of the composite with kenaf fibers treated with the adhesive solution containing Chemlok 402 were higher than those untreated. This is ascribed to the improved interfacial adhesion between the treated kenaf fiber and the rubber matrix. This study suggests that an appropriate use of adhesive solution may be possible to increase the properties of natural fiber-reinforced composites.
In this work, the effect of chemical treatment of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) on glass transition temperature (Tg), thermal stability, and dynamic viscoelastic behaviors of MWNTs-reinforced epoxy matrix composites has been studied by differencial scanning calorimeter (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) measurements. The MWNTs were chemically treated with 35 wt% $H_3PO_4$ (A-MWNTs) or 35 wt% KOH (B-MWNTs) solutions and the changes of surface properties of chemically treated MWNTs were examined by pH, acid and base values, Fourier transfer-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. The chemical treatments based on acid and base reactions led to a significant change of surface characteristics and chemical compositions of the MWNTs, especially A-MWNTs/epoxy composites had higher thermal stability and dynamic viscoelastic properties than those of B-MWNTs and non-treated MWNTs/epoxy composites. These results were probably due to the improvement of interfacial bonding strength, resulting from the acid-base interaction and hydrogen bonding between the epoxy resins and the MWNT fillers.

A thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer(TLCP) which has flexible butylene/hexylene spacers in the main chain and a triad aromatic ester type mesogenic unit containing a naphthyl group was prepared by solution polycondensation. The in-situ composites based on poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PEN) and a thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer(TLCP) were prepared and melt spun at different TLCP contents and different draw ratios to produce monofilaments. Blends of the TLCP with PEN were investigated in terms of thermal, mechanical properties and morphology. The TLCP synthesized showed nematic mesophasic behavior and its transition temperature to isotropic melt from mesophase was 249℃. The blends showed well dispersed TLCP phases in the PEN matrix without macroscopic phase separation. Inclusion of TLCP in the blends decreased the cold crystallization temperature of PEN in the blend, therefore, the TLCP acts as a nucleating agent in the blend and showed good interfacial adhesion between the dispersed LCP phases and PEN matrix with domain sizes 40~50 nm in diameter and well developed fibrillation in the monofilaments. The TLCP acted effectively as a reinforcing material in the PEN matrix at the 10wt% level, it led to an increase of initial modulus up to 270% and tensile strength by 235%, while the elongation rate increasing with higher draw ratios.
