The shrinkage of polymer concrete overlays to cement concrete causes interface shear, normal and axial stresses in the overlays. These can lead to deterioration of the polymer concrete overlays due to affection of adhesion polymer concrete and cement concrete. The shrinkage stress in the polymer concrete cause it to shorten and the shorting is measured: With the modulus of elasticity of the polymer concrete and strain known the stresses can be calculated. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data of application of polymer concrete overlays such as bridge decks, highway and airport pavement repair and overlay materials. From the test results. It has been found that depending on the type polymer. overlay thickness, time after curing and temperature. the shrinkage stresses are eliminated by relaxation in time ranging from a few hours to a few days.

As thermosonic ball bonding is developed for more and more advanced applications in the electronic packaging industry, the control of process stresses induced on the integrated circuits becomes more important. If Cu bonding wire is used instead of Au wire, larger ultrasonic levels are common during bonding. For advanced microchips the use of Cu based wire is risky because the ultrasonic stresses can cause chip damage. This risk needs to be managed by e.g. the use of ultrasound during the impact stage of the ball on the pad ("pre-bleed") as it can reduce the strain hardening effect, which leads to a softer deformed ball that can be bonded with less ultrasound. To find the best profiles of ultrasound during impact, a numerical model is reported for ultrasonic bonding with capillary dynamics combined with a geometrical model describing ball deformation based on volume conservation and stress balance. This leads to an efficient procedure of ball bond modelling bypassing plasticity and contact pairs. The ultrasonic force and average stress at the bond zone are extracted from the numerical experiments for a $50{\mu}m$ diameter free air ball deformed by a capillary with a hole diameter of $35{\mu}m$ at the tip, a chamfer diameter of $51{\mu}m$, a chamfer angle of $90^{\circ}$, and a face angle of $1^{\circ}$. An upper limit of the ultrasonic amplitude during impact is derived below which the ultrasonic shear stress at the interface is not higher than 120 MPa, which can be recommended for low stress bonding.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of RC bridge piers and to provide the data for developing improved seismic design criteria. The accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process may be enhanced by the use of sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program. A computer program, named RCAHEST(reinforced concrete analysis in higher evaluation system technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The smeared crack approach is incorporated. n boundary plane at which each member with different thickness is connected, local discontinuity in deformation due to the abrupt change in their stiffness can be taken into account by introducing interface element. The effect of number of load reversals with the same displacement amplitude has been also taken into account to model the reinforcing steel and concrete. In the companion paper, the proposed numerical method for seismic damage evaluation of RC bridge piers is verified by comparison with the reliable experimental results.
Continuously contacting with camshaft the face of Valve Lifter made of cast iron brings about abnormal wear such as unfairwear or earlywear because it is heavily loaded in the valve train systems as the engine gets more powered. This abnormal wear becomes a defet namely over-clearance when the valve is lifting so that the fuel gas imperfectly combusted by unsuitable open or close aaction of the engine valve in the combustion chamber. The imperfect combustion in the end results in the major cause of air pollution and combustion chamber. The imperfectly combusted by unsuitable open or close action of the engine valve in the combustion chamber. The imperfect combustion in the end results in the major causes of air pollution and decrease of the engine output. Consequently to prevent this wear this study was to develop the valve lifter which is joined by brazing process with SCM435H and a tip by manufacturing the face as a superhardened which is joined by brazing process with SCM435H and a tip by manufacturing the face as a superhardened ceramics alloy which has high wear resistance. Having the excellent surface hardness with Hv1100-1200 the sintered body developed with superhardened alloy(WC) can endure the severe face loading in the valve train system. We experienced with various brazing alloys and obtained the excellent joining strength to the joint had 150MPa shear strength. Interface analysis and microstructure in a joint were examined through SEM & EDS Optical microscope. Also 2,500 hours high speed(3,000-4,000 rpm) and continuous (1step 12hr) engine dynamo testing was carried out to casting valve liter and ceramics-metal joint valve lifter so that the abnormal wears were compared and evaluated.
Statement of problem : Fracture of composite resin core will be occulted by progress of crack. Bonding interface of different materials has large possibility of starting point of crack line. Therefore, the bond strength of glass fiber post to composite resin core is important for prevention of fracture. Purpose: This in vitro study tried to find out how to get the higher strength of glass fiber post to composite resin core through surveying the maximum load that fractures the post and cote complex. Materials and methods: 40 specimens made with glass fiber Posts(Style $post^{(R)}$, Metalor, Swiss) and composite resin core ($Z-100^{(R)}$, 3M, USA) were prepared and loaded to failure with push-out type shear-bond strength test in a universal test machine. The maximum fracture load and fracture mode were investigated in the specimens that were restored with four different surface treatments. With the data. ANOVA test was used to validate the significance between the test groups, and Bonferroni method was used to check if there is any significant statistical difference between each test group. Evely analysis was approved with 95% reliance. Results: On measuring the maximum fracture load of specimens, both the treatments of sandblasted and acid-etched one statistically showed the strength increase rather than the control group (p<0.005). The scanning electric microscope revealed that sand blasting made more micro-retention form not only on the resin matrix but on the glass fiber, and acid-etching contributed to increase in surface retention form, eliminated the inorganic particles in resin matrix. Specimen fracture modes investigation represented that sand blasted groups showed lower bonding failure than no-sand blasted groups. Conclusion: Referring to the values of maximum fracture load of specimens, the bonding strength was increased by sand blasting and acid-etching.
Clay veins that occurred in a slope by hydrothermal alteration, can significantly affect its slope stability. The effect of clay veins on the slope stability was investigated by numerical modeling study. Various parameters such as cohesion, internal friction angle, orientation, groundwater level, rainfall intensity and duration, have been modelled. As shear strength increased, factor of safety increased. As groundwater level developed, factor of safety decreased. For the case of slip surface developed on interface, factor of safety was lower than that for case of slip surface developed on either weathered soil or clay vein. The effect of various soil types of the slope stability was also investigated by simulating seepage through the slopes with various soils. The groundwater level significantly increased on the slopes with silty and generic soils. For the slope with sandy soil, almost no change in groundwater level was observed due to rapid drainage.

A higher order zig-zag plate theory is developed to accurately predict fully coupled mechanical, thermal, and electric behaviors. Both the in-plane displacement and temperature fields through the thickness are constructed by superimposing linear zig-zag field to the smooth globally cubic varying field. Smooth parabolic distribution through the thickness is assumed in the transverse deflection in order to consider transverse normal deformation. Linear zig-zag form is adopted in the electric field. The layer-dependent degrees of freedom of displacement and temperature fields are expressed in tern-is of reference primary degrees of freedom by applying interface continuity conditions as well as bounding surface conditions of transverse shear stresses and transverse heat flux. The numerical examples of coupled and uncoupled analysis demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the present theory. The present theory is suitable for the predictions of fully coupled behaviors of thick smart composite plate under mechanical, thermal, and electric loadings combined.

The Study is concerned with the analysis of unconstrained axisymmetric piercing as a nonsteady forging process by the rigid-plastic finite element method. In the numerical analysis of axisymmetric piercing, the initial velocity field is generated by assuming the material as a linear viscous material to begin with in order to facilitate the input handling and to ensure better convergencey. The strain-hardening effect for nonsteady deformation and the friction of the die-material interial interface are considered in the formulation. Rigid body treatment is also incorporated in the developed program. The experiments are carried out for aluminum alloy specimens (A1204) with different specimen heights. It is shown that the experimental results are in excellent agreement with the finite element simulations is deformed configuration. For load prediction the theoretical prediction shows excellent agreement with th eexperimental laod in the initial stage of loading before fracture of the specimen is not initiated. Distribution of stresses, strains and strain rates has been found for the given cases in computation. On this basis several fracture criteria are introduced in order to check the fracture initiation. It is found that maximum shear criterion is capable of good fracture prediciton.

Fatigue tests were conducted on the aluminum alloy, A7075-T6 to determine the most reliable fretting fatigue damage parameter. Specimens with grooves were used, so that either fretting fatigue crack at the pad/specimen interface or plain fatigue crack at the groove could be nucleated, depending on the pad pressure. Both the crack nucleation location and initial crack orientation were examined using optical microscopy, and the results were used to assess the reliability of the various fretting fatigue damage parameters that have been most commonly used in the literature. Finite element analysis was employed to obtain the stress and strain data of the specimen, which were needed to estimate the parameter values and the orientation of the critical plane. It was revealed that both the Fatemi.Socie and McDiarmid parameters, which assume shear-mode fatigue cracking, are the most reliable.

An electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is a unique probe that does not require a couplant or gel and also can usually generate or detect an ultrasonic wave into specimens across a small gap. It, therefore can be applied in a noncontact mode with a high degree of reproducibility. Especially stiffness of composites depends on layup sequence of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastics) laminates. It is very important to evaluate the layup errors in prepreg laminates. A nondestructive technique can therefore serve as a useful measurement for detecting layup errors. This shear wave for detecting the presence of the errors is very sensitive. A decomposition model has been used in the interpretation and prediction of test results. Test results have been com pared with model data. It is found that the high probability shows between tests and the model utilized in characterizing cured layups of the laminates. Also a C-scan method was used for detecting layup of the laminates because of extracting fiber orientation information from the ultrasonic reflection caused by structural imperfections in the laminates. Therefore, it was found that interface C-scan images show the fiber orientation information by using two-dimensional fast Fourier transform (2-D FFT).
