A Study on Image Binarization using Intensity Information (밝기 정보를 이용한 영상 이진화에 관한 연구)

  • The image binarization is applied frequently as one part of the preprocessing phase for a variety of image processing techniques such as character recognition and image analysis, etc. The performance of binarization algorithms is determined by the selection of threshold value for binarization, and most of the previous binarization algorithms analyze the intensity distribution of the original images by using the histogram and determine the threshold value using the mean value of Intensity or the intensity value corresponding to the valley of the histogram. The previous algorithms could not get the proper threshold value in the case that doesn't show the bimodal characteristic in the intensity histogram or for the case that tries to separate the feature area from the original image. So, this paper proposed the novel algorithm for image binarization, which, first, segments the intensity range of grayscale images to several intervals and calculates mean value of intensity for each interval, and next, repeats the interval integration until getting the final threshold value. The interval integration of two neighborhood intervals calculates the ratio of the distances between mean value and adjacent boundary value of two intervals and determine as the threshold value of the new integrated interval the intensity value that divides the distance between mean values of two intervals according to the ratio. The experiment for performance evaluation of the proposed binarization algorithm showed that the proposed algorithm generates the more effective threshold value than the previous algorithms.

  • This paper treats the Ultrasonic effects on the break down characteristics of Liquid Dielectric Material 1) Relative Dielectric constant, Es of Liquid Dielectric Material at a constant temperature decreases in proportion to the irradiated time of Ultrasonic radiation and its intensity, and reaches to a certain saturated value. The saturated value varies with the intensity of Ultrasonic radiation. 2) Power factor of Liquid Dielectric Material at a constant temperature increases in proportion tothe irradiated time of Ultrasonic radiation and its intensity, and reaches to a certain saturated value. The saturated value varies with the intensity of Ultrasonic radiation. 3) Relative resistance of Liquid Dielectric Material at a constant temperature decrease with the irradiated time of Ultrasonic radiation, but the effect of its intensity is very irregular. 4) Break-down strength of Liquid Dielectric Material, at a constant temperature decreases with the irradiated time of Ultrasonic radiation and its intensity, and then reaches to a saturated value.

Applicability of Huff Model & ABM Method for Discharge Capacity of Sewer Pipe (하수관거 통수능 해석을 위한 Huff 모형과 ABM 법의 적용성 분석)

  • The sewer capacity design have been based on the Huff model or the rational equation in South Korea and often failed to determine optimal capacity, resulting in frequent urban flooding or over-sizing. A time distribution of rainfall (i.e., Huff or ABM method) could be used instead of a rainfall hyetograph obtained from statistical analysis of previous rainfalls. In this study, the Huff method and the ABM method, which predict the time distribution of rain intensity, which are widely used to calculate sewage pipe drainage capacity using the SWMM, were compared with the standard rainfall intensity hyetograph of Seoul. If the rainfall duration was 30 minutes to 180 minutes, the rainfall intensity value calculated by the Huff model tended to be less than the rainfall intensity value of the standard rainfall intensity in the initial 5-10 minutes. As a result, more than 10% to 30% of under-design would be made. In addition, the rainfall intensity value calculated by the Huff model from the section excluding the initial 5-10 minutes of rainfall to the rainfall duration was calculated larger than the value using the standard rainfall intensity equation, which would result in an over-design of 10% to 30%. In the case of a relatively long rainfall duration of 360 minutes (6 hours) to 1,440 minutes (24 hours), it showed an lower rainfall intensity of 60 to 90% in the early stages of rainfall, but the problem of under-design had been solved as the rainfall duration time had elapsed. On the other hand, in the alternating block method (ABM) method, it was found that the rainfall intensity at the entire period at each assumed rainfall duration accurately matched the standard rainfall intensity hyetograph of Seoul.

  • This study was to introduced estimation model for optimum probabilistic rainfall intensity on hydrological area. Originally, probabilistic rainfall intensity formula have been characterized different coefficient of formula and model following watersheds. But recently in korea rainfall intensity formula does not use unionize applyment standard between administration and district. And mingle use planning formula with not assumption model. Following the number of year hydrological duration adjust areal index. But, with adjusting formula applyment was without systematic conduct. This study perceive the point as following : 1) Use method of excess probability of Iwai to calculate survey rainfall intensity value. 2) And, use method of least squares to calculate areal coefficient for a unit of 157 rain gauge station. And, use areal coefficient was introduced new probabilistic rainfall intensity formula for each rain gauge station. 3) And, use new probabilistic rainfall intensity formula to adjust a unit of fourteen duration-a unit of fifteen year probabilistic rainfall intensity. 4) The above survey value compared with adjustment value. And use three theory of error(absolute mean error, squares mean error, relative error ratio) to choice optimum probabilistic rainfall intensity formula for a unit of 157 rain gauge station.

  • This paper investigates the value relevance of advertising activity over the period from 2001 to 2009 in the listed Korean stock markets(KOSPI and KOSDAQ). In addition, this paper divide all sample firm into several subsample, based on R&D intensity and export ratio in total sales. The empirical result of this paper shows following two evidence; First, advertising intensity, which proxies for advertising activity, is significantly related to firm value at the 1% level of significance. Second, advertising activity of high R&D intensity and high export ratio sample firms has more significant value relevance than for firms with low R&D intensity and low export ratio. The empirical results suggest that moderation effect of R&D intensity and export ratio are very important factor in determining the value relevance of advertising activity.

Hardness Machining Characteristics using the SCM415 Still (SCM415강을 이용한 경도가공 특성)

  • In this study, the cutting conditions of moving speed, number of main axial revolutions, etc. are changed for the chrome molybdenum steel (SCM415) material and carbide ball end mill tool to study the changes for processing intensity in the cutting process. The results that confirm the intensity of the measured value of the specimen for SCM415 display the intensity with an average 1.0667 HrC. After the fact cutter, it was able to confirm the average intensity of 8.3815 HrC. In addition, the intensity value after image processing may determine the average intensity survey value of 5.8690 HrC and the different intensity values with image processing after face cutting are shown for an average of ${\pm}2.5125HrC$. The different value of intensity with the specimen and image processing is confirmed for an average of 4.8024 HrC. The results of comparing the intensity following the number of main axial revolutions and moving speed show that the intensity is highest for 3,000 rpm and F200, and lowest for 4,000 rpm and F200.

Effect of Grazing Stage and Intensity on the Forage Production and Nutritive Value in Orchargrass Dominant Pasture (Orchargrass 위주 혼파초지에서 방목시기와 강도가 초지생산성 및 사료가치에 미치는 영향)

  • A field experiment was carried out to determine the effects of grazing stage and intensity on the forage production and nutritive value in orchardgrass dominant pasture, 1989 and 1990. The grazing stages were 20- 25m, 30-35cm and 40-45cm of plant height, and high and medium grazing intensity were set by the number of growing cows (initial body weight: 230-250kg), which was adJusted according to the pasture production. The high level of grazing intensity was 150% of medium intensity. Annual grazing frequency was 10 times in 20-25cm. 8 times in 30-35cm. and 6 times in 40-45cm of plant height. Dry matter(DM) yield was increased with increasing of plant height at grazing : 7,090kg in 20-25cm 7,882kg in 30-35n and 8,260 kgha in 40-45cm of height. Higher DM was observed at medium grazing intensity. In spring, daily DM production was more vigorous than those in summer and autumn season. Cmde protein (CP), digestible DM, and DM intake were decreased with increasing of plant height at grazing. CP content was 25.8% in 20-25cm 22.4% in 30-35m and 19.2% in 40-45cm, while the contents of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber were increased with higher plant height. Relative feed value was 11 1.2 in 20-25cm, 104.4 in 30-35n and 99.6 in 40-45cm. Also nutritive value of pre-grazing pasture plants was remarkably higher than that of post-grazing, and not significant differences of nutritive value were found between grazing intensity. From the above mults, it may be concluded that optimum plant height for grazing was 20-25cm and 30- 35cm in pasture mixtures dominated by orchardgms, and medium grazing intensity was very desirable for pasture productivity.

Effects of Ohmic Thawing on the Physicochemical Properties of Frozen Pork

  • This study was carried out to investigate the physicochemical properties of frozen pork muscle which has been thawed using the ohmic thawing process, and to establish the optimal ohmic power intensity. The samples were frozen at $-40^{\circ}C$ and thawed at 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 V by ohmic thawing. Increasing ohmic power intensity correlated with increased thawing rates. The relationship between ohmic power intensity and thawing rate can be represented as a polynomial function. The pH value decreased with increasing ohmic power intensity (p<0.05). With regard to color measurement, the $L^*$, a, and b values of thawing at all ohmic power intensities were not significantly different. The water holding capacity showed a peak value of 41.62% with an ohmic thawing intensity of 30 V. Cooking losses were lowest at the lowest ohmic thawing intensity of 10 V. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) levels with all thawing processes were slightly higher than that of the control (p<0.05). Increasing ohmic power intensity did not tend to change the total volatile basic nitrogen (TVBN) value.

Global Value Chain Formation and Human Capital: Case of Korea and ASEAN

  • Purpose - This study discusses the effects of human capital in the formation of GVC linkages. We also investigate GVC intensity between Korea and ASEAN. Design/methodology - To solve the doubling-counting problem in evaluating comparative advantage, RCA has been re-computed using domestic value-added (henceforth RCA_VA) at the country-sector level instead of value of trade. The impact of human capital on GVC intensity was empirically analyzed by establishing a panel data set with four industries (ISIC Rev. 4) in eight ASEAN countries from 2005 to 2015 from OECD-TiVA and WDI. Findings - The empirical results show that human capital has a negative effect on GVC intensity in the agriculture and manufacture industries, while it has a positive effect in the service and information industries. The results do not mean that low human capital is a barrier and inefficient to GVC linkages. Low Value-added activities may be more profitable to some emerging countries. These findings suggest that it is important to accurately identify the competitive elements to increase gains from trade under the GVC. Also, it shows that comparative advantages can be misled by an RCA index evaluated in trade volume under the GVC. Originality/value - This study highlights the importance of human capital as a factor for the efficient formation of Global Value Chain (GVC). This study has different from the literature in analyzing the role of human capital in formation of linkage of the GVC. And we clarify the changing patterns of trade by removing the double-counting problem under the GVC.

Numerical Analysis on Effects of Free-Stream Turbulence Intensity on the Three-dimensional Turbulent Flow Characteristics in a Turbine Cascade (자유유동 난류강도가 터빈 캐스케이드내 3차원 난류유동 특성에 미치는 영향에 관한 전산해석)

  • The objective of this study is to determine the influence of free-stream turbulent intensity on the three-dimensional turbulent flow in a linear turbine cascade. The range of free-stream turbulence intensity considered is 0.7~10%. This study was performed numerically. The results show that the mass averaged loss coefficient increased according to the increase of free-stream turbulence intensity due to increased value of the mass averaged total pressure loss coefficient which was higher than the decreased value of the mass averaged secondary flow loss coefficient. The loss coefficient distribution was changed suddenly at a free-stream turbulence intensity of 10% while the loss coefficient distribution was rarely changed at a lower free-stream turbulence intensity of 5%.
