Implementation of FlexRay Network System using Node-based Scheduling Method (노드 기반 스케줄링 방법을 이용한 FlexRay 네트워크 시스템의 구현)

  • As vehicles become intelligent for convenience and safety of drivers, in-vehicle networking (IVN) systems are essential components of intelligent vehicles. Recently, the chassis networking system which require increased network capacity and real-time capability is being developed to expand the application area of IVN systems. Also, FlexRay has been developed for the chassis networking system. However, FlexRay needs a complex scheduling method of static segment, which is a barrier for implementing the chassis networking system. Especially, if we want to migrate from CAN network to FlexRay network using CAN message database that was well constructed for the chassis networking system by automotive vendors, a novel scheduling method is necessary to be able to reduce design complexity. This paper presents a node-based scheduling method for FlexRay network system. And, in order to demonstrate the method's feasibility, its performance is evaluated through an experimental testbed.

A study on recognition system of preceding vehicle by image processing

  • This study deals with the problem of the recognition of the preceding vehicles by image processing. The purpose of this study is the development of the equipment to prevent a collision with preceding vehicles during driving the vehicle. In order to decrease the processing time and increase reliability, at first, the traffic lane is extracted. It is determined by detecting road edges and calculating their tangent. After the traffic lane is gotten, the position of the vehicle is searched inside the lane. The features used to detect the vehicles in the algorithm are shadow of the vehicle, vertical edges, horizontal edges, and symmetrical segment. The preceding vehicles are extracted successfully by this method.

  • Overloaded Vehicles are one of biggest of hazard in durability decrease of roads and bridges. Thus, regulation was put in force about overloaded vehicles to reserve this problem. However, existing system had many problems. For these reasons, this paper presents solutions of U-intelligent overload vehicles regulation system based on manless and wireless for fixing of problems of existing system and construction of ITS. With this in mind, we studied about composition method of system, applications of USN, design of system controller, WCDMA/ HSDPA, etc in this paper.

Detection of Preceding Vehicles Based on a Multistage Combination of Edge Features and Horizontal Symmetry (에지특징의 단계적 조합과 수평대칭성에 기반한 선행차량검출)

  • This paper presents an algorithm capable of detecting leading vehicles using a forward-looking camera. In fact, the accurate measurements of the contact locations of vehicles with road surface are prerequisites for the intelligent vehicle technologies based on a monocular vision. Relying on multistage processing of relevant edge features to the hypothesis generation of a vehicle, the proposed algorithm creates candidate positions being the left and right boundaries of vehicles, and searches for pairs to be vehicle boundaries from the potential positions by evaluating horizontal symmetry. The proposed algorithm is proven to be successful by experiments performed on images acquired by a moving vehicle.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm capable of detecting vehicles in front or in rear using a monocular camera installed in a vehicle. The vehicle detection has been regarded as an important part of intelligent vehicle technologies. The proposed algorithm is mainly composed of two parts: 1)hypothesis generation of vehicles, and 2)hypothesis verification. The hypotheses of vehicles are generated by the analysis of vertical and horizontal edges and the detection of symmetry axis. The hypothesis verification, which determines vehicles among hypotheses, is done by the AdaBoost algorithm. The proposed algorithm is proven to be effective through experiments performed on various images captured on the roads.

Comparison of Intelligent Charging Algorithms for Electric Vehicles to Reduce Peak Load and Demand Variability in a Distribution Grid

  • A potential breakthrough of the electrification of the vehicle fleet will incur a steep rise in the load on the electrical power grid. To avoid huge grid investments, coordinated charging of those vehicles is a must. In this paper, we assess algorithms to schedule charging of plug-in (hybrid) electric vehicles as to minimize the additional peak load they might cause. We first introduce two approaches, one based on a classical optimization approach using quadratic programming, and a second one, market based coordination, which is a multi-agent system that uses bidding on a virtual market to reach an equilibrium price that matches demand and supply. We benchmark these two methods against each other, as well as to a baseline scenario of uncontrolled charging. Our simulation results covering a residential area with 63 households show that controlled charging reduces peak load, load variability, and deviations from the nominal grid voltage.

  • In Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS), which is an active field of Intelligent Transport System (ITS), information of traffic congestion is sent to each vehicle at real time. However, a centralized navigation system is not realistic to guide millions of vehicles in a megalopolis. Autonomous distributed systems should be more flexible and scalable, and also have a chance to focus on each vehicle´s demand. This paper proposes a sub-optimal route planning mechanism of vehicles in urban areas using the non-network type immune system. Simulation is carried out using a cellular automaton model. This system announces a sub-optimal route to drivers in real time using VICS.

  • This paper describes the area of intelligent systems research as funded by the Civil and Mechanical Systems (CMS) Division of the National Science Foundation (NSF). With developments in computer science, information technology, sensing and control the design of typical machines and structures by civil and mechanical engineers is evolving toward intelligent systems that can sense, decide and act. This trend toward electro-mechanical design is well-established in modern machines (e.g. vehicles, robots, disk drives) and often referred to as mechatronics. More recently intelligent systems design is becoming an important aspect of structures, such as buildings and bridges. We briefly review recent developments in structural control, including the role that NSF has played in their development, and discuss on-going CMS activities in this area. In particular, we highlight the interdisciplinary initiative on Sensors and Sensor Networks and the Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES). NEES is a distributed cyberinfrastructure to support earthquake engineering research, and provides the pioneering NEES grid computing environment for simulation, teleoperation, data collection and archiving, etc.

  • Airport GIS is a comprehensive information system to improve security and efficiency of airport. At the initial stage to make it real, the current status of domestic and international regulations along with relevant standardization bas been reviewed. Gimpo Airport becomes a test-bed to get some ideas about how to bring the airport GIS into workflow by building service model and basic design based on current status and demand analysis of the airport. The 6 service models primarily brought into the project are as follows: (1) Local vehicles safety management in airside, (2) Intelligent traffic control between flights and vehicles at main cross points, (3) Dynamic safety management against FOD in airside and breakage on pavement, (4) Special support vehicle management such as deicing remotely controlled, (5) Response and support for fire vehicles and ambulances of signatory institutions in emergency. The upcoming research topic aims at drawing a specific design and building integrated system in the future.
