A Neuro-contouring controller for High-precision CNC Machine Tools (고정밀 CNC 머신을 위한 신경망 윤과제어)

  • In this paper, a neuro-contouring control scheme for the high precision machining of CNC machine tools is descrihed. The proposed control system consists of a conventional controller for each axis and an additional neuro-controller. For contouring control, the contour error must be computed during realtime motion, but generally the contour error for nonlinear contours is difficult to he directly computed. We, therefore, propose a new contour error model to approximate real error more exactly, and here we also introduce a cost function for better contouring performance and derive a learning law to adjust the weights of the neuro-controller. The derived learning law guarantees good contouring performance. Usefulness of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated hy computer simulations.

  • Most of metal cutting and processing companies are going through the difficulties such as frequent downtime and high failure rates by missing times to replace parts of CNC equipment. The reason is that the correct operation times of expensive CNC equipment can't be calculated. In this paper, to solve this problem, we try to construct the intelligent production information system for a case company and analyze its expected effects. The effects are as follows. First, it saves money about 3 million won each year during the useful life of three years by reducing downtime and failure rates, and increasing production rates etc. Second, it makes easily find and fix the cause of faulty through traceability of the production process, and enables to perform a systematic facility management through the calculation of reliable equipment's overall efficiency. This case can be easily applied in similar industries, and will contribute greatly to enhancing the competitiveness of related industries.

  • This study aims at developing the high speed/intelligent machining system suing the plug/play method of an open architecture controller. The plug/play technology by the Application Specific Function (ASF), can readily implement the open architecture controller into various machining system or other automatic equipments. For the open architecture controller, this study developed the open HMI, screen editor, ASF, visual builder, and controller OS technology as software components. On the other hand, we developed the I/O module and main board as control hardware system. This study, as an example, presents integration of individual component technologies for the plug/play type open architecture CNC system.

  • The CNC machine toots has two kinds of fault. One is the fault due to degraded parts and the other is the fault due to operation disability. The phenomena of degradation is predictable but the operational fault is unpredictable because it occurred without any warning. The major faults of CNC machine tool are operational faults which are charged over 70%. This paper describes the model of remote service and the intelligent fault diagnosis system to diagnosis operational faults of CNC machine tools. To generalize fault diagnosis, two diagnosis models such as SF(Switching Function) and SSF(Step Switching Function) are proposed. The SF is static model and SSF is dynamic model for expression of fault. The SF and SSF model can be generated using SFG(Switching Function Generator) which is developed in this research. The three major operational faults such as emergency stop error, cycle start disability and machine ready disability are applied to experiment of fault modeling. To remote service of faults fur CNC machine tool, the web server and client system based internet are proposed as the suitable environment. The developed two technologies are implemented with the internal function of open architecture controller. The implemental results for two technologies are presented to validate the proposed scheme.

  • Interactive measuring Part Program Generating Tools (IMPPGT) realized on the FANUC 15MA using touch trigger probes and interactive macro functions of the CNC were developed for intelligent measuring and inspection systems on the machine tools. Machine tools. Menu driven measuring and inspection functions of the IMPPGT were studied and implemented on the CNC through the macro executor and ROM writer. In order to automate measurement and inspection procedures in machine shops, measuring G Code system was also proposed. Using the developed measuring G Code system on the machine tool, untended measurement and inspection operation was able to be realized in FMS lines.

  • A stock removal cycle is developed as a programming tool of the CNC lathe. This cycle support the easiness and swifness of a part program generation in the shopfloor. The cycle contains the function of tool path generation of rough/finish cutting, of avoidance air-cut for non-cylindrical (die-casted, forged) workpiece, and of the tool collisopn detection/aviodance. Consequently the intelligent stock removal cycle results in improving the productivity and safety of CNC lathe.

  • CNC가공의 절삭공정에 대하여 명료한 분석이 되어있지 않아서 다양한 절삭조건에서의 가공결과를 예측하기가 힘들기 때문에, 최적의 절삭조건 결정 및 공구선택에 대한 체계적인 기술이 정립되어 있지 않다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 CNC 가공기인 머시닝센터 및 고속가공기를 이용한 엔드밀 절삭가공시 요구되는 일반적인 사항들을 고찰하고, 엔드밀 공정의 가공성능 향상을 위한 절삭조건결정 방식을 지적인 결정에 의하여 선택하도록 하는 사용자 친화적 지적결정 시스템을 개발하였다.

  • ISO 14649 is a new interface (or language) standard for the CAD-CAM -CNC chain, currently under establishment by ISO TC184 SCI and SC4 . Upon completion, it will replace ISO 6983, so called M amp; G codes used for CNC since 1950' s. As the new language is being established, a new CNC controller called STEP-CNC (STEP­compliant CNC), capable of carrying out various intelligent tasks using the new language as an input, receives worldwide attention. In this paper, we present a distributed architecture for STEP-NC system based on the generic paradigm of STEP-NC. The STEP-NC system is consisted of 3 sub-systems: 1) CGS (Code Generation System), 2) CES (Code Edit System), and 3) ACS (Autonomous Control System). Also presented in this paper is algorithm for delta volume decomposition, a crucial algorithm for developing CGS. First method is based on the cutting tool and the second method is based on the turning features commonly used in the shop floor. An illustrative example is given to compare the two methods, and to illustrate usage scenario of the delta volume in the turning STEP- NC system under development.

Hybrid (CNC+Laser) Process for Polymer Welding (하이브리드 방식 (CNC+Laser)을 이용한 폴리머용접공정)

  • Polycarbonate (PC) and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) were welded by a combination of a diode laser and a CNC machining center. Laser beam delivered through the transparent PC and was absorbed in an opaque ABS. Polymers were melted and joined by absorbed and conducted heat. Experiments were carried out by varying working distance from 44mm to 50mm for the focus spot diameter control, laser input power from 10W to 25W, and scanning speed from 100 to 400mm/min. The weld bead and cross-section were analyzed for weld quality, and tensile results were presented through the joint force measurement. With focus distance at 48mm, laser power with 20W, and welding speed at 300mm/min, experimental results showed the best welding quality which bead size was measured to be 3.75mm. The shear strength at the given condition was $22.8N/mm^2$. Considering tensile strength of ABS is $43N/mm^2$, shear strength was sufficient to hold two materials. A single process was possible in a CNC machining system, surface processing, hole machining and welding. As a result, the process cycle time was reduced to 25%. Compared to a typical process, specimens were fabricated in a single process, with high precision.

  • The major faults of CNC machine tool is operational error which is charge over 70%. This paper describes model of remote service and fault diagnosis for CNC machine tool with open architecture controller. For intelligent fault diagnosis, new model is proposed. In this paper, the three major operational faults, emergency stop error, cycle start disable and machine ready disable, are defined. Two diagnostic models based on the ladder diagram, switching function model, step switching function model, are proposed. For internet based remote service, suitable environment is proposed and implemented with web server and client.
