  • As society proceeds rapidly toward a knowledge-oriented stage, knowledge as an intangible asset has gained increasing importance. Companies increase their competitiveness and generate extra value through continuous investments in the management of intellectual property (IP). Thus, the prime concerns of companies have been protection of their technological innovation output through filing for IP rights, and maximization of their interests through utilization of intangible assets. Despite the importance of technological innovation in the management of a company, few studies have analyzed the key factors in the management of IP and activities for technological innovation. This study aims to derive policy implications for managing IP and effective capacity building for technological innovation. For this purpose, the author has employed empirical tests to identify the major factors influencing the direction of technological innovations in a company.

  • This research exercise was undertaken in order to examine whether academic achievement, academic attitudes, achievement goals, and family process had an influence on beliefs about intellectual ability. The subjects were 434 junior-high school students in Seoul and Incheon. The results of this study indicated that 162 students with incremental beliefs had higher scores in all five sub-factors of academic attitudes, two sub-factors in their achievement goals (namely their mastery goals and approach performance goals), and four sub-factors of family process (closeness, monitoring, communication, and approval) than 155 students with entity beliefs. • Cohen-Gibson syndrome (CGS) was first reported by Cohen et al., who identified the mutation of the gene encoding the embryonic ectoderm development (EED) in a patient with phenotypes similar to Weaver syndrome. CGS manifests as an overgrowth and intellectual disability, in addition to the characteristic facial features and organ anomalies. CGS has been reported in only 11 unrelated patients since 2015. A girl aged 6 years and 3 months presented with seizures. She had macrosomia, a dysmorphic face, and intellectual disability. Her mother and younger sister and brother also had macrosomia, intellectual disability, and similar facial features; additionally, her mother experienced seizures and had an arachnoid cyst, while her siblings had valvar pulmonary stenosis. Whole-exome sequencing for the proband revealed a mutation of EED (c.581A>G, p.Asn194Ser), which was also verified in the mother and both siblings using Sanger sequencing. This is the first report of familial CGS.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes of sensory and visual perception of children with intellectual disabilities by conducting psychomotorik (psychomotor activity) in the forest and indoor treatment rooms. Accordingly, this study divided 18 children with intellectual disabilities living in the facility for persons with disabilities located in Seoul into three groups: the experimental group participating in psychomotorik in the forest, the comparative group participating in psychomotorik in the treatment room, and the control group without any treatment at all. The program was conducted for 32 weeks, 4 hours a month. The results showed that psychomotorik promoted the sensory and visual development of children with disabilities. Psychomotorik in the forest showed significant effects on touch and activity level, form constancy and eye-hand coordination. Psychomotorik in the treatment room showed significant improvement in figure-ground with reduced motion. This suggests that psychomotorik in the forest as well as indoors is a positive factor for sensory adaptation reaction and visual development of children with intellectual disabilities.
