  • In this paper, the numerical integration method for general singularly perturbed two point boundary value problems with mixed boundary conditions of both left and right end boundary layer is presented. The original second order differential equation is replaced by an approximate first order differential equation with a small deviating argument. By using the trapezoidal formula we obtain a three term recurrence relation, which is solved using Thomas Algorithm. To demonstrate the applicability of the method, we have solved four linear (two left and two right end boundary layer) and one nonlinear problems. From the results, it is observed that the present method approximates the exact or the asymptotic expansion solution very well.

  • A design framework to employ the multidisciplinary design optimization technologies on a computer system has been developed and is named as the Extensible Multidisciplinary Design Integration and Optimization System (EMDIOS). The framework can not only effectively solve complex system design problems but also conveniently handle MDO problems. Since the EMDIOS exploits both state-of-the-art of computing capabilities and sophisticated optimization techniques, it can overcome many scalability and complexity problems. It can make users who are not even familiar with the optimization technology use EMDIOS easily to solve their design problems. The client of EMDIOS provides a front end for engineers to communicate the EMDIOS engine and the server controls and manages various resources luck as scheduler, analysis codes, and user interfaces. EMDIOS client supports data monitoring, design problem definition, request for analyses and other user tasks. Three main components of the EMDIOS are the Engineering Design Object Model which is a basic idea to construct EMDIOS, EMDIOS Language (EMDIO-L) which is a script language representing design problems, and visual modeling tools which can help engineers define design problems using graphical user interface. Several example problems are solved and EMDIOS has shown various capabilities such as ease of use, process integration, and optimization monitoring.

  • Due to the evolution of computer systems and the proliferation of Internet, numerous information resources have been constructed. The deluge of information makes the need to integrate information, which are distributed on the internet and are handled in heterogeneous systems. Recently, most of the XML -based information integration systems use XML DTD(Document Type Definition) for describing integrated global schema. However, DTD has some limitations in modeling local information resources such as datatypes. Although W3C's XML Schema is more flexible and powerful than XML DTD in specifying integrated global schema, it has more complex problems in resolving conflicts than using DTD. In this paper, we provide a taxonomy of conflict problems in integration information resources using XML Schema, and propose conflict resolution mechanism using XQuery.

  • The concept of temperature distribution in inhomogeneous semi-infinite solids is examined by making use of direct integration method. The analysis is done on the solution of the in-plane steady state heat conduction problem under certain boundary conditions. The method of direct integration has been employed, which is then reduced to Volterra integral equation of second kind, produces the explicit form analytical solution. Using resolvent- kernel algorithm, the governing equation is solved to get present solution. The temperature distribution obtained and calculated numerically and the relation with distribution of heat flux generated by internal heat source is shown graphically.

  • Objective : To explore the effect of intensive sensory integration therapy through daily camp programs for children with sensory modulation disorder. Methods : A comparison of quantitative data and qualitative description between before and after sensory integration therapy camp and main outcome measure was used, including MAP behavior checklist, JSI-2, COPM, sensory history, STEP-SI. Results : The adaptive response was increased and sensory modulation problems were observed less than before the camp. Conclusion : For this study a more diverse, extended and intensive SI program is considered necessary. Further study is needed to develop these findings.

  • Any ERP system pushes a company toward full process integration and solves the fragmentation of information. However, the tight process integration can propagate and magnify mistakes made in one department into the other departments in real time. Thus, it can be posited that a central support system for the coordination can help ERP users and administrators dig out problems, take care of tedious validation and verification, and maintain process integration of ERP with great consistency. This paper proposes an agent-based ERP operations support system (EOSS) that aims at achieving and maintaining process integration of ERP at the highest level possible. With EOSS, the process integrity is monitored, with anomalies prevented as early as possible and repaired as precisely as possible.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide definition of proprioception, foundations and roles of neuroanatomy, and systemical review of proprioceptive activities in sensory integration intervention. Proprioception exists in muscle, ligaments, joints and skin and it plays important role in controling body movements and interacting with environment during child development. Proprioception interacting with tactile and vestibular systems contributes to the change of muscle tone, postural control, refinements of planning and praxis. Children who are deficit in proprioceptive processing would seek hypo-responsive proprioceptive input or avoid hyperactive one. Outcome of poor proprioceptive input would cause the problems of praxis and postural control. Because proprioception provides information about the position and movement of body and limb it is important for development of body scheme and motor planning. It also influences the arousal and emotional tone. Sensory integration intervention which provides rich proprioceptive activities will improve the level of arousal and enhance motor planning.

  • The discrete ordinates method (SN) is one of the major shielding calculation method, which is suitable for solving deep-penetration transport problems. Our objective is to explore the available quadrature sets and to improve the accuracy in shielding problems involving strong anisotropy. The linear discontinuous finite-element (LDFE) quadrature sets based on the icosahedron (in short, ICLDFE quadrature sets) are developed by defining projected points on the surfaces of the icosahedron. Weights are then introduced in the integration of the discontinuous finite-element basis functions in the relevant angular regions. The multivariate secant method is used to optimize the discrete directions and their corresponding weights. The numerical integration of polynomials in the direction cosines and the Kobayashi benchmark are used to analyze and verify the properties of these new quadrature sets. Results show that the ICLDFE quadrature sets can exactly integrate the zero-order and first-order of the spherical harmonic functions over one-twentieth of the spherical surface. As for the Kobayashi benchmark problem, the maximum relative error between the fifth-order ICLDFE quadrature sets and references is only -0.55%. The ICLDFE quadrature sets provide better integration precision of the spherical harmonic functions in local discrete angle domains and higher accuracy for simple shielding problems.

  • Modified virtual crack closure integral (MVCCI) technique has become very popular for computation of strain energy release rate (SERR) and stress intensity factor (SIF) for 2-D crack problems. The objective of this paper is to propose a numerical integration procedure for MVCCI so as to generalize the technique and make its application much wider. This new procedure called as numerically integrated MVCCI (NI-MVCCI) will remove the dependence of MVCCI equations on the type of finite element employed in the basic stress analysis. Numerical studies on fracture analysis of 2-D crack (mode I and II) problems have been conducted by employing 4-noded, 8-noded (regular & quarter-point), 9-noded and 12-noded finite elements. For non-singular (regular) elements at crack tip, NI-MVCCI technique generates the same results as MVCCI, but the advantage for higher order regular and singular elements is that complex equations for MVCCI need not be derived. Gauss numerical integration rule to be employed for 8-noded singular (quarter-point) element for accurate computation of SERR and SIF has been recommended based on the numerical studies.
