Rate-sensitive analysis of framed structures Part I: model formulation and verification

  • This paper presents a new uniaxial material model for rate-sensitive analysis addressing both the transient and steady-state responses. The new model adopts visco-plastic theory for the rate-sensitive response, and employs a three-parameter representation of the overstress as a function of the strain-rate. The third parameter is introduced in the new model to control its transient response characteristics, and to provide flexibility in fitting test data on the variation of overstress with strain-rate. Since the governing visco-plastic differential equation cannot be integrated analytically due to its inherent nonlinearity, a new single-step numerical integration procedure is proposed, which leads to high levels of accuracy almost independent of the size of the integration time-step. The new model is implemented within the nonlinear analysis program ADAPTIC, which is used to provide several verification examples and comparison with other experimental and numerical results. The companion paper extends the three-parameter model to trilinear static stress-strain relationships for steel and concrete, and presents application examples of the proposed models.

  • The Compact Airborne Imaging Spectrometer System (CAISS) was jointly designed and developed as the hyperspectral imaging system by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and ELOP inc., Israel. The primary mission of the CAISS is to acquire and provide full contiguous spectral information with high quality spectral and high spatial resolution for advanced applications in the field of remote sensing. The CAISS consists of six physical units; the camera system, the gyro-stabilized mount, the jig, the GPS/INS, the power inverter and distributor, and the operating system. These subsystems shall be tested and verified in the laboratory before the flight. Especially the camera system of the CAISS shall be calibrated and validated with the calibration equipments such as the integrated sphere and spectral lamps. To improve data quality and availability, it is the most important to understand the mechanism of hyperspectral imaging system and the radiometric and spectral characteristics. This paper presents the major characteristics of camera system on the CAISS and summarizes the results of radiometric and spectral experiment during preliminary system verification.

  • 정지궤도위성은 통신 탑재체와 관측 탑재체를 동시에 장착하는 정지궤도 위성으로, 본 논문에서 언급되는 MI2U는 관측 탑재체의 하나인 기상센스와의 접속 및 전원공급을 위한 유닛이다. 본 논문에서는 기상탑재체 접속장치 ORB의 검증시험 방법을 제안하고 제안된 내용에 따라 시험을 수행하였으며, 결과에 대한 분석하고 향후 시험방향을 제시한다.

  • 최근 휴대폰단말기, PDA 와 같은 내장형시스템에 필수적으로 사용되고 있는 SoC(System On a Chip)에 대한 설계에서는 HW/SW 동시설계를 통한 설계생산성 향상이 필수적이다. 이에 따라서 설계검증에서도 HW/SW 통합검증의 중요성이 매우 커지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같이 내장형시스템을 위한 HW/SW 통합검증을 효율적으로 수행 할 수 있는 방법들인 co-simulation 과 co-emulation 및 co-prototyping 에 대하여 이들 방법들의 장단점과 더불어 이들을 통합한 새로운 검증방법인 집적 동시-검증(integrated co-verification) 기법에 대하여 논하기로 한다.

  • In this paper, we suggested the verification method of protective algorithms using EMTDC(Electro-Magnetic Transient DC). In other to verify protective algorithms using EMTDC, we first had to make a user defined component and then applied it to a simple power system with parallel line. By means of this method, We reduced the much time and effort to develop or improve the protective algorithm of digital protective relay. For the future, we apply this method to IDPACS(Integrated Digital Protection and Control System) and intend to implement more reliable digital protective relays.

  • According to the development of VLSI integration technology and getting bigger the circuit size, it is a significant problem to verify systemized circuit. The faster and more accurate verification has very significant meaning in the field of electronic industry because it can yield the product comparably faster and reduce the trial and errors. In spite of the presence of various kind of Integrated Circuits it's not always easy to get the right part. Besides, it is hard to find a vendor for a small quantity consumers like who develop prototype applications. In this study, we've tried to get the logical signals from the PC based device we've developed that correspondents with the real ICs. It can emulate decoder ICs, multiplexers, demultiplexers and basic logic gates.

  • The steam turbine used in nuclear power plant is modeled for the purpose of verification of control system rather than the operator education. The valves, reheater and generator are modeled also and integrated into the simulator. After that, the operation data and the designed data such as heat balance diagram are utilized to identify the model parameters. It was evident that model outputs of developed simulator are very close to the measured operating ones. The simulator within dynamic model was used to verify and validate the whole control system together with field instruments. And the target plant has been operating long time.

  • When planning buildings, safety should be considered as a priority over any other performance. The study aims to derive and systematize elements that can be reflected in the design stage, which affects the safety of construction workers and building users. The elements for safety of workers are classified by type of work, and the elements for safety of users are classified by fields. Elements that are difficult to be reflected in design stage or those whose effects are insignificant are excluded. In addition, application scenarios have been proposed for each element so that the elements created in this study can be directly applied and utilized in practice. This will contribute to lowering the accident rate of construction projects by evaluating the harmful risks of construction projects at the design stage.

Structural Health Monitoring System of Long-Span Bridges in Korea

  • Development and application of structural health monitoring system in Korea have become active since the early 1990's. In earlier applications, health monitoring systems were installed in several existing bridges in order to collect initial field data by full scale load capacity test for design verification and subsequently monitor long-term performance and durability of the bridge as part of an inspection and maintenance program. Recently, modem and integrated monitoring systems have been introduced in most of the newly constructed long-span bridges since the design stage. This paper outlines the progresses and applications of monitoring systems in Korea for both existing and newly constructed bridges and describes their aims and characteristics.

  • The telematics positioning testbed is an infrastructure to test and verify positioning technology, the sub-component of telernatics system. The positioning testbed provides the environment of performance analysis for acquisition of static and dynamic positioning information using telematics vehicle. This testbed consists of onboard positioning system, positioning reference station and lab positioning server. The onboard positioning system equipped in telematics vehicle, consists of target positioning system, reference positioning system, and analysis tool. A equipment acquiring high precision positioning data obtained from GPS combined with IMU was set as a reference positioning system. Analysis tool compares observed positioning data with high precision positioning information from a reference positioning system, and processes positioning information. Positioning reference station is RTK system used for reducing atmosphere error, and it transmits corrected information to reference positioning system. Positioning server which is located at laboratory manages positioning database and provides monitoring data to integrated testbed operating system. It is expected that the testbed supports commercialization of telernatics technology and services, integrated testing among component technology and verification.
