  • This paper proposes an attitude determination GPS/INS integrated system scheme for a UAV and presents experimental flight test results. The proposed system is designed as a part of an autopilot system and comprises a GPS attitude determination receiver, an off-the-shelf inertial measurement unit (IMU), and a navigation computer unit (NCU). UAV requires accurate attitude information for stable automatic flight control. The proposed system can provide accurate attitude information for the flight control computer (FCC) so that stable automatic flight control can be achieved. In order to verify the performance of the proposed scheme, an integrated navigation system has been developed. In order to evaluate the developed navigation system, the flight test has been performed. In the flight test, the developed system was shown to provide the position, the velocity and the attitude satisfactorily enough for stable flight control. The accuracy of the attitude information of the developed system was confirmed by comparing attitude of vertical gyro.

  • In this paper, the implementation of a tightly coupled real-time GPS/INS integrated system is discussed. The hardware is developed for any GPS receiver and any IMU. The navigation software is modularized by tasks, so that can be easily modified when the integrated system is restructured. A van test was performed to show the feasibility of the proposed system.

  • The inefficient operation of Busan New Port is due to container-terminal operators being dispersed in small groups, rather than being integrated. This dispersion increased following the reorganization of global shipping alliances in 2016 and causes unnecessary Inter-terminal Transportation(ITT) and ship delays. Studies of integrated operations for larger container terminals show that integration is not going well, however, due to the pre-emptive task that follows the integrated operation. Therefore, in this study, we divided the integrated operation into stages based on a simulated model of the container terminals in Busan New Port. The simulation took into account future increases in the ship's enlargement and terminal congestion, and the operational effects of each type of integrated operation were analyzed and evaluated.

  • NAVWAR (NAVigation WARfare) such as an integral part of EW (Electronic Warfare) for making navigation systems malfunctioning expands rapidly in the future military warfare. First of all, Navigation systems of ground radio and satellite were investigated. And the definition of NAVWAR and vulnerability related to GNSS were analyzed. As a result, we propose the development direction for future navigation system such as constructing eLoran system, developing an integrated receiver, establishing alert steps of watch system, and so on.

  • It is clearly understood that e-navigation is beneficial to prevent collision and grounding of ships. The purpose of this study is to define and present a future ship operation system under the e-navigation environment in order to provide clear direction for the design of Korean e-navigation system. The future ship operation system consists of shipboard navigational system, shore supporting system and maritime communication system. To achieve the objectives of this study, the ship operation system was discussed separately into SOLAS ships and non-SOLAS ships in this study. In SOLAS ships, mariners become a system manager, choosing system presets, interpreting system output, and monitoring vessel response. In small ships and fishing vessels, mariners may enjoy their navigation by using the automatic tracking of ship's position on the portable electronic chart display. The improved bridge design, integrated and harmonized navigational system and single window reporting will reduce significantly the administrative and physical workload of mariners. Mariners can concentrate their attention more on navigational duty under the e-navigation environment. To build an effective Korean e-navigation system, the essential navigational functions and e-navigation services for small ships and fishing vessels must be identified and developed taking into account user needs.

  • This paper discusses methods to effectively operates and evaluates an infrastructure system for lane-level positioning based on satellite navigation. The lane-level positioning infrastructure provides correction information on range measurements with integrity information on the correction to a user with a single frequency (cheap) satellite navigation receiver in order to perform lane-level positioning and integrity monitoring on the position estimate. The architecture and configuration of the lane-level positioning system are described from the systematic level in order to provide a comprehensive insight of the system. The operation/evaluation system for the integrated infrastructure is then presented. The evaluation results of the real implemented system are provided. Based on the results, we discuss requirements to increase the system stability from the operation perspective.

  • Recently, China officially declared to operate its satellite positioning system, Beidou so called Compass. The system is currently having 10 orbiting satellites which regionally cover from Australia to Russia in the north. Moreover, the system will be planed not only to launch 6 navigation satellites in its orbit in 2012 but also to complete the system with 35 satellites in 2020. The China satellite navigation system can affect to the current circumstance of global satellite navigation world in terms of navigation parameters. In this paper, we investigate characteristics of multi-integrated GNSS involving Beidu-Compass system and discuss general issues involving visibility and GDOP.

  • In this paper, the method for navigation and obstacle avoidance of an autonomous mobile robot is proposed. It is based on the fuzzy inference system which enables to deal with imprecise and uncertain information, and on the neural network which enables to learn input and output pattern data obtained from ultrasonic sensors. For autonomous navigation, the wall-following navigation utilizing input and output data by an expert's control action is constructed. An approach by the neural network is developed for the obstacle avoidance because of the redundant input data. For an autonomous navigation, the fuzzy control and the control of the neural network are integrated and its feasibility is demonstrated by means of experiment.

  • NHC means that the velocity of the vehicle in the plane perpendicular to the forward direction is almost zero. The main error source of NHC is the mounting misalignment which is the difference between the body frame of a land vehicle and the sensor frame of an inertial measurement unit. This paper suggests new NHC algorithm that can reduce position errors by real-time estimation of mounting misalignment. Then NHC/ZUPT integrated land navigation system is designed and its performances are analyzed by simulations with van test data. Simulation results show that the proposed NHC/ZUPT land navigation system improves navigation accuracy regardless of misalignment angle and is very useful when SDINS operates stand-alone for land vehicle navigation with large mounting misalignment.

  • Unmanned vehicle has a performance for finding the path and the way point by itself, so called orientation and direction. For the more precise navigation performance, Extended kalman filter, which is integrated with inertial navigation system and global positioning system is proposed in this paper. Extended kalman filter's performance is evaluated by the simulation and applied to the unmanned vehicle. The test result shows the effectiveness of Extended kalman filter for the navigation.
