"Green Sea Ranger", an Oil-Spill Model for Korean Coastal Waters

  • We reviewed various oil-spill models and condensed the integrated information into a prediction model, “Green Sea Ranger”which is applicable to Korean coastal area. The developed software consists of pre- and post-modules for environment setup and display of results and main module for the prediction of oil\`s fate. In the pre-module target areas can be selected from the included geographic information system and various environmental and optional numerical data for the prediction can be input through easy GUI or imported from the database we established. For the fate of the spilt oil we included effects of spreading, advection, evaporation, and emulsification. Preliminary numerical experiment has proved that the developed oil-spill prediction system can be easily utilized in on-site oil recovery operations which usually require a quick and reasonable prediction.

  • In this paper, a controller design for brushless linear motor is proposed. The designed controller is mainly composed of speed and current controller, which are carried out by the high-speed digital signal processor(DSP). In addition the PWM inverter is controlled by space voltage PWM method. This system is implemented using by 32-bit DSP(TMS320C31), a high-integrated logic device(EPM7128), and IPM(Intelligent Power Module) for compact and powerful system design. The experimental results show the effective performance of controller for the brushless linear motor.

  • We developed the protection program for the generator fault protection system and each module of the digital protective relay H/W for loading the protection program. The protective algorithm for the generator is 51, 51G/N, 46P/N, 47P/N, 50G/N, and 32, and we developed each fault protection program. And we must design high efficiency microprocessor, CT, and PT for realtime measuring, relaying and high accuracy of measurement, also. From now on digital protective relay must be operated with integrated management systems. For this point, we must load various industrial protocol on the digital protective relay. In this research, we developed each protective relay H/W module according to above conditions. And we designed real-time operating system in order that each protective algorithm is operated with realtime processing on the H/W system.

  • In Korea, WAP and ME have been used for wireless Internet services. Two methods are different in markup languages used, therefore contents providers have to use two different markup languages to provide an internet service. To solve this problem, we present a design and implementation of a markup language conversion module between WML and M-HTML.

Configuration of Actuator and Sensor Interface Bus Network using PLC

  • A kind of field bus called Actuator and Sensor interface bus(AS-i) was designed in this paper. The configuration of AS-i network system used Application Specific Integrated Circuit(ASIC) SAP5S chip and PLC S7-200 station, which included CPU 224 and AS-i master module CP 243-2. We also created an example program for PLC S7-200 to control AS-i network. The fire and smoke detection system was made with AS-i network system that was designed. This system had got more advantages than other system such as number of stations, easy installation, wide working area, etc. And designed system can be used as a partner network for higher level field bus networks.

  • In order to provide appropriate decision supports in medical domain, it is required that clinical knowledge should be implemented in a computable form and integrated with hospital information systems. Healthcare organizations are increasingly adopting tools that provide decision support functions to improve patient outcomes and reduce medical errors. This paper proposes a process centric clinical decision support system based on medical knowledge. The proposed system consists of three major parts - CPG (Clinical Practice Guideline) repository, service pool, and decision support module. The decision support module interprets knowledge base generated by the CPG and service part and then generates a personalized and patient centered clinical process satisfying specific requirements of an individual patient during the entire treatment in hospitals. The proposed system helps health professionals to select appropriate clinical procedures according to the circumstances of each patient resulting in improving the quality of care and reducing medical errors.

  • Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is one of the most widely used analytical tool and is an important module that would benefit from being miniaturized and integrated onto diagnostic or analytical chips. There are potentially two different approaches for the miniaturization of the PCR module: chamber-type and flow-type micro-PCR. These miniaturized PCRs have distinct characteristics and advantages. In this article, we review the necessity of micro-PCR, the materials for the chip fabrication, the surface modification, and characteristics of the two types of micro-PCR. The motivation underlying the development of micro-PCR, the advantages and disadvantages of the various materials used in fabrication and the surface modification methods will be discussed. And finally, the precise features of the two different types of micro-PCR will be compared.

  • This study described computer aided die design system for cold forging of non-axisymmetric parts. To design the die of cold forging. an integrated approach based on a rule-base system and commercial F. E. code were adopted. This system is implemented on the personal computer and its environment is a commercial CAD package named as AutoCAD. The system includes four modules. In the initial data input module, the variables which are necessary to design of die are inputted by user and die material are selected from the database. In the analysis and redesign module, stress distrubution action on the designed die is analyzed by commercial FEM code NISA II. The designed die is modified to prevent failure in both states of stress free and pressurizing. The developed system provides powerful capabilities for die design of non-axisymmetric parts.

  • A method to adaptively control leg-ends trajectories of a five-legged walking robot, Cepheus-2, has been developed in terms of a kind of a table look-up method. Cepheus-2 is a five-legged robot with a pentagonal body with two joints of each leg. The robot control system has a hierarchical autonomic-integrated architecture with a main computer (PC), a manager and servo modules. Being given the goals of walking by the main computer, the manager module assigns a type of leg-end trajectories of which data are described with the work space coordinates for the legs. An Approach to Model Ground-Coupled Building Foundation for Energy Simulation (Ground-Coupled 바닥구조체의 열전달 모델링)

  • In this paper, a two-dimensional transient ground-coupled numerical model for slab-on-grade foundation is developed and integrated into EnergyPlus. A validation analysis is first presented to ensure that for the developed building foundation heat transfer module is properly implemented within EnergyPlus. Then, the predictions from the developed model are compared to those obtained from the simplified building foundation model currently used in EnergyPlus. The results show that the developed foundation heat transfer module accounts better for the effects of the ground thermal mass attributed to the ground than the simplified foundation model currently used in EnergyPlus.
