정신과적 관점에서의 섬유근통 (Fibromyalgia from the Psychiatric Perspective)

  • 섬유근통은 피로, 수면장애, 기분변화, 인지장애 및 만성 전신통증을 핵심 증상으로 하는 질환이다. 섬유근통은 유전적 취약성, 통증 처리과정 및 스트레스 반응 체계의 변화 등을 포함하는 생물학적 요인과 불안, 우울, 분노, 스트레스 등의 심리적 요인, 그리고 감염, 발열 질환, 외상 등의 환경적 요인이 함께 작용하여 발생하는 것으로 알려져 있으며, 핵심 병인으로 감각 자극이 인식되는 과정에서 증폭되어 통증이 증진되는 중추성 감작의 역할이 강조되고 있다. 가이드라인들은 개별 환자의 필요에 따라 선택된 다원적 접근을 권고하며, 임상의는 충분한 교육을 통해 지적 이해의 틀을 제공하고 자기 관리의 중요성을 강조해야 한다. 섬유근통에서 정신건강 문제의 유병률은 일반인구집단의 7~9배로 유의하게 높으며, 특정 정신병리 및 수면장애와의 관련성도 제기되고 있다. 정신과적 상태는 섬유근통과 양방향성 상호작용을 하며 경과에 영향을 주고, 취약성을 공유하며 서로의 위험 요인으로 작용할 수 있으므로, 동반질환을 면밀히 평가하여 보다 통합적인 관리가 필요할 것이다.

어류 병원체 Edwardsiella piscicida의 OmpR은 생육과 병원성과 관련된 유전자의 발현에 필수적 (OmpR Is Essential for Growth and Expression of Virulence-related Genes in the Fish Pathogen Edwardsiella piscicida)

  • Edwardsiella piscicida는 어류의 출혈성 패혈증 및 사람의 위장 감염의 중요한 원인균이다. 세균이 생존을 하기 위해서는 환경변화에 적응하기 위한 특수한 메커니즘이 필요하다. 따라서 E. piscicida가 삼투압 변화 환경을 감지하고 이에 반응하는 메커니즘을 이해하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 다양한 염도 조건에서 단백질 발현 형태와 세균의 생리적 특성을 분석하였다. EnvZ-OmpR의 two-component 조절 시스템의 일부인 OmpR 단백질은 세균의 염분 스트레스 감지와 관련이 있다. 이 단백질이 E. piscicida에서 어떤 생리적 역할을 하는지는 밝혀지지 않고 있다. 이 연구에서는 염분 스트레스에 대한 OmpR 단백질의 기능을 조사 하였다. OmpR을 발현하지 못하는 돌연변이체를 분석한 결과 구연산염 이용, H2S 생성 및 인돌 생산의 능력이 야생형과 비교했을 때 차이가 나는 것으로 확인되었다. 전체 ompR 유전자를 가지는 플라스미드를 돌연변이 균주에 도입하여 분석한 결과 위의 세가지 표현형은 야생형과 같아졌다. 지연된 성장률도 부분적으로 회복되었음을 볼 수 있었다. 이 연구에서 OmpR이 세포 운동성과의 관련성을 찾아볼 수 없었다. 이 연구의 결과들을 종합하면, 돌연변이 분석, 성장 분석, MALDI-TOF MS, qRT-PCR 및 표현형 연구 결과는 E. piscicida의 OmpR이 삼투압 조절, 생육, 포린 발현, 독성 관련 유전자(eseC, eseD 및 evpC) (ETAE_1826) 및 기능을 알 수 없는 특정 유전자(ETAE_1540 및 ETAE_2706)와 관련이 있다고 사료된다.

당뇨환자에서 당화혈색소와 관련된 우울, 불안, 감정표현불능, 스트레스반응 - 예비적 연구 - (Relationship between Glycated Hemoglobin and Depression, Anxiety, Alexithymia, Stress Response in Diabetic Patients - A Preliminary Study -)

  • 서론: 최근 경제수준의 향상과 사회구조의 변화 등으로 신생활이 서구화되고 노령화 사회가 되어가면서 만성질환 및 성인병 등의 박병률이 급격히 증가하고 있다. 특히 당뇨병은 전 세계적으로 및 유병율이 계속 증가하고 있으면, 만성질환 중 주요사망 원인인 뇌혈관 질환과 심혈관계 질환의 중요한 위험요인으로 잘 알려져 있다. 그러나 당뇨병은 고혈당 자체보다는 여러 장기에 복합적으로 침범하는 합병증으로 인하여 환자자신은 물론 가족과 사회에 심각한 건강 문제와 사회, 경제적 문제를 초래하게 되는 질환이다. 그러므로 당뇨병의 치료에 있어 엄격한 혈당의 조절과 함께 정서적 스트레스에 대한 배려가 필요할 것이다. 이에 저자들은 당뇨병 환자의 과거 3개월간의 혈당조절의 지표로 알려진 당화혈색소를 기준으로 당뇨조절과 관련된 정신병리를 확인해보고자 하였다. 방법: 2004년 3월부터 2004년 8월까지 가톨릭대학교 성빈센트병원 내분비내과에서 치료 중인 환자 55명을 대상으로 하였으며, 이 중 당화혈색소가 7%이하인군을 혈당조절 양호군으로 하였다. 이들에 대하여 사회 인구학적인 변인에 대한 문항, Beck의 Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), Spielberger의 State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Taylor의 Tronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS), 고경봉의 스트레스반응척도(SRI)를 사용하여, 혈당조절 양호군과 불량군간의 차이를 비교하였다. 결과: 1) 대상군 55명의 평균나이는 $49.9{\pm}9.9$세(연령분포 : $24{\sim}67$세)였으며, 이 중 남자가 49.1%(27명), 여자가 50.9% (28명)이었고, 평균 유병기간은 $47.6{\pm}62.6$개월, 평균 신체질량지수는 $25.3{\pm}4.2$로 측정되었다. 총 55명중에서 혈당조절 양호군은 10명(평균나이 $47.2{\pm}12.3$세, 남자 60%, 여자 40%)이었고, 혈당조절 불량군은 45명 (평균나이 $50.5{\pm}9.4$세, 남자 46.7%, 여자 53.3%)이었다. 2) 두 군간에서 나이, 성별, 신체질량지수 등의 인구학적 변인에서 유의한 차이는 없었으나, 당뇨병 유병기간에서 혈당조절 양호군이 $12.2{\pm}55.4$개월, 혈당조절 불량군이 $55.4{\pm}66.6$개월로 혈당조절 양호군이 유의하게 짧은 유병기간을 보이고 있었다(p=0.000). 3) 혈당조절 양호군과 불량군의 상태불안의 평균점수는 각각, $38.7{\pm}3.8$점, $43.7{\pm}6.7$점이었고, 특성불안의 평균점수는 각각, $36.9{\pm}5.7$점, $41.5{\pm}6.4$점으로 두군 모두에서 상태불안(p=0.029)과 특성불안(p=0.043)에 있어서 유의한 차이를 보이고 있었다. 4) 우울증상척도, 감정표현불능척도, 스트레스반응척도에서는 혈당조절 양호군과 불량군 모두에서 유의한 차이가 없었다. 결론: 이상의 결과에서 당뇨조절에 문제가 있는 군은 그렇지 않은 군보다 높은 상태불안 및 특성불안을 겪고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 당뇨환자의 치료에 있어서 환자들이 느끼는 불안에 대한 통합적인 접근이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

당뇨병 환자에서의 우울 및 관련증상에 관한 예비적 연구 (A Preliminary Study on Depressive Symptoms and Glycemic Controls in Diabetic Patients)

  • 목적 : 당뇨병은 인단 발생하면 질병 경과의 조절은 어느 정도 가능하나 대부분 완치가 어렵고 평생동안 치료와 자기관리론 요하는 만성질환으로, 이러한 합병증은 혈당을 가능한 정상인에 가깝도록 유지함으로서 합병증의 발생 및 진행을 억제할 수 있다. 당뇨병 진단이후 만성질환에 대한 합병증 발생에 따른 두려움, 혈당을 정상화시키기 위한 생활습관의 갑작스런 개선, 당뇨병 치료를 위한 약물 복용 및 인슐린 주사, 당뇨병성 합병증의 발생 등은 정서적 스트레스로 작용할 가능성이 크다. 이에 저자들은 자가보고식 우울증 척도를 기준으로 당뇨조절과 관련된 요인들을 확인해보고자 하였다. 방법: 2004년 3월부터 2004년 9월까지 가톨릭대학교 성빈센트병원 내분비내과에서 치료 중인 환자 60명을 대강으로 하였으며, 이 중 Beck의 우울척도(Beck Depression Inventory, BDI)점수를 기준으로 20점 이하인 군을 비우울군, 21점 이상인 군을 우울군으로 하였다. 이들에 대하여 사회 인구학적인 변인, 혈액화학 검사, 단백뇨검사, 당화혈색소검사 및 Spielberger의 상태-특성불안 척도(State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, STAI), Bagby의 감정표현불능척도(Tronto Alexithymia Scale), 고경봉의 스트레스반응척도(Stress Response Inventory)를 사용하여, 우울군과 비우울군 간의 차이론 비교하였다. 결과: 1) 대상군 60명의 평균나이는 $50.3{\pm}9.7$세(연령분포 : $24{\sim}67$세)였으며, 이중 남자가 51.7%(31명), 여자가 48.3%(29명)이었고, 평균 유병기간은 $47.1{\pm}61.5$개월, 평균 신체질량지수는 $25.2{\pm}4.3$으로 측정되었다. 총 60명중에서 비우울군은 47명(평균나이 $48.9{\pm}9.8$세, 남자 51.1%(24명), 여자 48.9%(23명))이었고, 우울군은 13명(평균나이 $55.4{\pm}7.2$세, 남자 53.8%(7명), 여자 46.2%(6명))이었다. 2) 두군 간에서 평균연령이 우울군에서 유의하게 높았으나($55.4{\pm}7.2$세 vs. $48.9{\pm}9.8$세)(p=0.031), 성별, 신체질량지수, 당뇨병 유병기간, 교육정도, 직업 등의 인구학적 변인에서 유의한 차이는 없었다. 또한 혈중 크레아틴 농도가 우울군에서 유의하게 높게 측정되었으나$(0.91{\pm}0.14\;vs.\;0.8{\pm}0.14)(p=0.26)$, 공복 시 혈당, 식후 혈당, 당화혈색소 및 단백뇨검사 등의 검사에서는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 3) 우울군과 비우울군의 스트레스 반응척도의 평균점수는 각각 $59.7{\pm}24.9,\;31.5{\pm}22.0$으로 두군 간의 유의한 차이를 보이고 있었다(p=0.000). 4) 상태불안 및 특성불안, 감정표현불능척도에서는 우울군과 비우울군 간의 유의한 차이가 없었다. 결론: 이상의 결과에서 우울증상이 있는 당뇨환자에 있어서 당조절의 지표라고 여겨지는 혈당 및 당화혈색소 등은 악화되어있지 않았으나, 당뇨병의 장기적인 합병증과 관련되어있을 것으로 생각되는 혈중 크레아틴의 농도가 증가되어있고, 스트레스에 매우 취약한 상태라는 점이 확인되었다. 우울증이 있는 당뇨환자의 치료에 있어서 이에 대한 통합적인 접근이 필요할 것이며, 추가적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

외상 후 병리에서 성장으로: 외상 후 성장 시계 (From Trauma To growth: Posttraumatic Growth Clock)

  • 인간 정신은 외상 자극에 역동적으로 반응하여 다차원적 위계를 따라 진화적으로 발전하는 시스템이다. 평형상태에서 일원화되어 있는 정신 내에 외상 자극이 유입되면 그에 반대 쌍이 되는 반응 극성이 형성되어 이원화된다. 그 반대 쌍 사이에 초월적 상호작용이 일어나면 상위 차원에 제3의 극성이 출현하게 되어 정신은 삼위구조로 변형된다. 삼위 구조화된 정신에서는 비평형 상태가 극대화되어 가소성이 최대화됨에 따라 삼위 요인이 같은 기능을 하게 되는 동기화가 가능해지며 이로 인해 정신은 상위차원에서 다시 일원화된다. 만약 정신이 또 다시 새로운 자극을 받아들이게 되면 정신은 위의 위계적 변형과정을 따라 성장하게 된다. 이를 정신의 기본삼위체계의 동기화를 통한 순환적 성장과정이라 한다. 이번 이론 연구에서는 이 개념을 외상 후 성장 과정에 적용하여 외상 후 성장 시계를 제안하였다. 외상 후 성장 시계는 7개의 위계적 단계로 구성되어있으며 처음 6개의 단계들은 충격 대 마비, 공포 대 침습, 편집 대 회피, 강박 대 폭발, 불안 대 우울, 허무 대 의미추구 단계 등의 12분기로 구성되어 있고 마지막 7번째 단계에서는 이들 모든 단계들의 기능들이 동기화되는 거대 동기화 단계가 나타나게 된다. 거대 동기화 단계에서는 이전의 6 단계들로 구성된 개인 내의 생리-사회-실존 차원들 뿐 아니라 자아와 타아도 동기화를 통해 일원화됨으로써 자신의 외상경험 뿐 아니라 타인의 고통도 자신의 실제적 외상경험으로 작용하게 되어 정신은 상위 차원에서 또 다른 성장과정을 반복한다. 이 논문에서 제안된 외상 후 성장 시계의 변형과정에 대한 타당성을 Horowitz의 외상반응과정과 비교하여 논의하였다.

풍속과 초기 토양수분에 따른 평면형 바이오필터 내 토양수분 안정화 및 식물 생육반응 평가 (Evaluation for Soil Moisture Stabilization and Plant Growth Response in Horizontal Biofiltration System Depending on Wind Speed and Initial Soil Moisture)

  • 연구의 최종 목표는 실내의 공간과 특성에 따라 효율적으로 실내공기질을 향상시킬 수 있는 식물 녹화와 바이오필터를 통합한 시스템의 개발이다. 그러나 이러한 목표를 달성하기 위해서는 바이오필터 시스템의 적절한 공기정화량에 대한 용량 설계에 중요한 영향을 주는 일정한 압력손실량과 토양수분 함량과 같은 여러 가지 요구사항들이 충족되어야 한다. 따라서 본 기초 연구는 바이오필터의 토양 내 균일한 분포를 갖는 토양수분 함량과 압력손실량을 유지하고 정상적인 식물 생장 특히 바람에 의한 근권부 스트레스를 받지 않도록 풍속을 적절히 조절하고, 바이오필터 내 초기 토양수분 함량이 일정하게 유지되어 안정성을 확보하기 위해 수행되었다. 본 실험에서는 평면형 바이오필터 모델을 설계하여 제작하고 세 가지 풍속(1, 2, $3cm{\cdot}sec^{-1}$)에 따른 바이오필터의 공기정화량, 공기체류시간, 기액비를 산출하였다. 또한 세가지 풍속에 따라 바이오필터 내 토양층을 통과하여 배출된 가습공기의 상대습도, 압력손실량, 토양수분 함량을 측정하고, 이 바이오필터 내에서 자란 상추와 더 피고사리의 생육을 평가하였다. 풍속 실험의 결과, 풍속 $3cm{\cdot}sec^{-1}$가 상대습도, 토양수분 함량, 식물생육을 유지하기에 가장 적절하였다. 따라서 다음 실험에서는 풍속을 $3cm{\cdot}sec^{-1}$로 고정하고 두 가지 수준의 초기 토양수분 함량(저수준 18.5%, 고수준 28.7%) 조건에서 바이오필터를 가동한 처리구와 바이오필터를 가동하지 않은 대조구(초기 토양수분 함량 29.7%)를 설정하고, 바이오필터 내 토양층을 통과하여 배출된 가습공기의 상대습도, 압력손실량, 토양수분 함량과 바이오필터 내에서 자란 상록넉줄고사리의 생육을 평가하였다. 이 실험 결과는 첫 번째 실험 결과와 유사하였으며 상대습도, 토양수분 함량, 압력손실량이 일정한 수준을 유지하였다. 또한 세 가지 초기 토양수분 함량에 따른 상록넉줄고사리의 생육도 유의성 있는 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 그러나 두 가지의 바이오필터 처리구는 대조구에 비해 건물중이 다소 증가된 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 주요 물리적 요소인 토양수분 함량과 압력손실량을 유지할 수 있는 본 바이오필터 시스템의 안정성은 가까운 미래에 보다 발전된 일체형 바이오필터 모델 설계에 적용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The CF 15-11 HFDs which failed APD test did not show changes in the UFR compared to normal dialyzers indicating that APD is a more sensitive test than UFR test to evaluate the integrity of the fibers. 30527 T00401030527 ^x For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. The strip loader and cassette were made to obtain more accurate reflectance parameters. The strip was illuminated at 45˚c through optical fiber and the intensity of reflected light was determined at rectanguLat angle using a photodiode. The kubelka-munk coefficient and reflection optical density were determined ar four different wavelengths(500, 550, 570 and 610nm) for blood glucose strip. For higher concentration than 300mg/41 about glucose, a saturation state of abforbance was observed at 500, 550 and 570nm. The mice were divided into two groups. One group was injected with Photofrin II, intravenously (2.5mg/kg body weight). The other group received no Photofrin II. Mice from both groups were irradialed for approximately 15 minutes at 100, 300, or 500 mW/cm2 with the argon (488nm/514.5 nm), dye(628nm) and gold vapor (pulsed 628 nm) laser light. A photosensitizer behaved as an added absorber. Under our experimental conditions, the presence of Photolfrin II increased surface temperature by at least 40% and the temperature rise due to 300 mW/cm2 irradiation exceeded values for hyperthermia. Light and temperature distributions with depth were estimated by a computer model. The model demonstrated the influence of wavelength on the thermal process and proved to be a valuable tool to investigate internal temperature rise. 30536 T00401030536 ^x We investigated the structural geometry of thirty-eight Korean femurs. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. The results suggested that the femoral component suitable for Asians should be different from the currently-used components designed and manufactured mostly by European or American companies. 30537 T00401030537 ^x It is well known that nonlinear propagation characteristics of the wave in the tissue may give very useful information for the medical diagnoisis. In this paper, a new method to detect nonlinear propagation characteristics of the internal vibration in the tissue for the low frequency mechanical vibration by using bispectral analysis is proposed. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms. On this base, we composed of the radial pulse diagnosis system in korean traditional medicine. The system composed of a radial pulse wave detection system and a radial pulse diagnosis system. With a detection system, we detected Inyoung and Cheongu radial pulse wave and processed it. Then, we have got the characteristic parameters of radial pulse wave and also quantified that according to the method of Inyoung-Cheongu Comparison Radial Pulse Diagnosis. To synthesize microspheres for biomedical application, "two stage shot growth method" was developed. The uniformity ratio of synthesized microspheres was always smaller than 1.05. And the surface charge density (or the number of ionizable functional groups) of the microspheres synthesized by "two stage shot growth method" was 6~13 times higher than that of the microspheres synthesized by conventional seeded batch copolymerization. As a previous step for biomedical application, adsorption experiments of bovine albumin on microspheres were carried out under various conditions. The maximum adsorbed amount was obtained in the neighborhood of pH 4.5. Isoelectric point of bovine albumin is pH 5.0, so experimental result shows that it shifted to acid area.   • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70${\pm}$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32${\pm}$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The CF 15-11 HFDs which failed APD test did not show changes in the UFR compared to normal dialyzers indicating that APD is a more sensitive test than UFR test to evaluate the integrity of the fibers. 30527 T00401030527 ^x For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms.
