Fabrication of 40 Gb/s Front-End Optical Receivers Using Spot-Size Converter Integrated Waveguide Photodiodes

  • We fabricated 40 Gb/s front-end optical receivers using spot-size converter integrated waveguide photodiodes (SSC-WGPDs). The fabricated SSC-WGPD chips showed a high responsivity of approximately 0.8 A/W and a 3 dB bandwidth of approximately 40 GHz. A selective wet-etching method was first adopted to realize the required width and depth of a tapered waveguide. Two types of electrical pre-amplifier chips were used in our study. One has higher gain and the other has a broader bandwidth. The 3 dB bandwidths of the higher gain and broader bandwidth modules were about 32 and 42 GHz, respectively. Clear 40 Gb/s non-return-to-zero (NRZ) eye diagrams showed good system applicability of these modules.

  • GPS provides two services which include SPS(Standard Positioning Service) and PPS(Precise Positioning Service). While SPS users can navigate in more precise due to cancellation of SA(Selective Availability), SPS users has still less precision navigation than PPS users. L1/L2CS integrated receiver can provide more precise navigation to SPS users because the delay of Ionosphere will be cancelled by using two frequencies (L1 and L2). This paper designs an integrated L1/L2CS digital correlator to prepare the L2C signal that will be provided in 2003. Also L2CS transmitter is designed to confirm L2CS correlator.

  • This paper describes development of automatic flight control system for an unmanned target drone which is operated by Korean army as for anti-air gun shooting training. Current target drone is operated by pilot control of on-board servo motor via remote control system. Automatic flight control system for the target drone greatly reduces work load of ground pilot and can increase application area of the drone. Most UAVs being operated now days use high-priced sensors as AHRS and IMU to measure the attitude, but those are costly. This paper introduces the development of low-cost automatic flight control system with low-cost sensors. The integrated automatic flight control system has been developed by integrating combining power module, switching module, monitoring module and RC receiver as an one module. The performance of automatic flight control system is verified by flight test.

  • An active Balun is designed for RFID reader at 2.45GHz. The Balun is integrated inside the receiver, then the LNA and mixer can be connected. The unbalanced LNA output signal is transformed to a balanced signal at the input mixer The RF mixer and LO mixer, by using this balun. The Balun provided a balanced signal with two output stage, gain mismatch is 0.116dB. The phase show a good behavior with $163.918^{\circ}$,$-16.609^{\circ}$. The phase mismatch is about $0.527^{\circ}$. The tight difference between the gain and phase on each brancd, is because of the used capacitor and integrated inductor and the other parasitic element inside the balun.

  • A hybrid-integrated SAW(surface acoustic wave) douplexer including transmitter(Tx) filter, receiver(Rx) filter an dantenna terminal has been studied. The prototype duplxer was designed for CDMA system application in the 800 MHz-band. Ladder type SAW filters consisting of one port SAW resonators wer integrated on epoxy substrate to demonstrate the feasiblity of antenna duplexer. In order to perform the duplexing function, a strip line for impedance transformaton with length of .gamma./4 was inserted at rx path. The fabricted duplexer has an insertion loss of 3.0 dB at Tx path and 3.7 dB at Rx path. The attenuation has more than 40dB.

  • This paper designs an integrated navigation system that uses the signals from both GPS satellites and pseudolites. While GPS satellite clocks are synchronized, pseudolite clocks are not exactly synchronized even though pseudolite can use 1PPS signal from the GPS receiver. This can cause large range error and can be solved by transmitting the correction information. Assuming that the positions of pseudolites are known, it is possible to determine the true range between two pseudolites.   • In this study, an integrated GMS(Geostationary Meteorological Satellite) receiving ground system, which includes the real-time reception and image processing of WEFAX data, has been developed. The demodulator, PC demodulator, PC interface and application softwares of the system were made and integrated with the commercially available antenna and receiver. Hardwars of the system were described in this part. This system operates at IBM PC/AT or above. It can be used for students at school and for application research in the fields of meteorology, oceanography, hydrology and astronomy.

  • An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is an aircraft controlled by .emote commands from ground station and/o. pre-programmed onboard autopilot system. A navigation system in the UAV provides a navigation data for a flight control computer(FCC). The FCC requires accurate and reliable position, velocity and attitude information for guidance and control. This paper proposes an ADGPS/INS integrated navigation system for a UAV. The proposed navigation system comprises an attitude determination GPS (ADGPS) receive., a navigation computer unit, and a low-cost commercial MEMS inertial measurement unit(IMU). The navigation algorithm contains a fault detection and isolation (FDI) function fur integrity. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed navigation system, two flight tests were preformed using a small aircraft. The first flight test was carried out to confirm fundamental operation of the proposed navigation system and to check the effectiveness of the FDI algorithm. In the second flight test, the navigation performance and the benefit of the GPS attitude information were checked in a high dynamic environment. The flight test results show that the proposed ADGPS/INS integrated navigation system gives a reliable performance even when anomalous GPS data is provided and better navigation performance than a conventional GPS/INS integration unit.

Attitude Determination GPS/INS Integrated Navigation System with FDI Algorithm for a UAV

  • Recently an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been widely used for military and civil applications. The role of a navigation system in the UAV is to provide navigation data to the flight control computer (FCC) for guidance and control. Since performance of the FCC is highly reliant on the navigation data, a fault in the navigation system may lead to a disastrous failure of the whole UAV. Therefore, the navigation system should possess a fault detection and isolation (FDI) algorithm. This paper proposes an attitude determination GPS/INS integrated navigation system with an FDI algorithm for a UAV. Hardware for the proposed navigation system has been developed. The developed hardware comprises a commercial inertial measurement unit (IMU) and the integrated navigation package (INP) which includes an attitude determination GPS (ADGPS) receiver and a navigation computer unit (NCU). The navigation algorithm was implemented in a real-time operating system with a multi-tasking structure. To evaluate performance of the proposed navigation system, a flight test has been performed using a small aircraft. The test results show that the proposed navigation system can give accurate navigation results even in a high dynamic environment.

  • 정보의 보유가 힘을 창출해 내는 지식정보화 사회속에서 정보의 중요성이 어느 때보다 강조되고 있지만 정작 필요한 정보를 적시에 찾아보기란 힘들어 지고 있다. 유익한 정보의 수집, 가공과 이의 효율적 전달은 더 없이 중요해 지고 있다. 특히 이러한 정보가 일반 시사정보가 아닌 과학기술정보와 같이 전문성을 내포하는 경우 송신자 와 수신자, 제공자와 사용자 사이의 연결은 더욱 어렵고 다양한 변수와 상황을 야기시킨다. 본 연구에서는 공공정보 서비스제공 기관인 한국과학기술정보연구원(KISTI)의 주요한 기능 가운데 하나인 과학기술 정보 서비스의 효율화를 위하여 통합적 마케팅 커뮤니케이션(IMC) 전략 적용 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 분석은 크게, 송신자와 수신자, 그리고 매개체인 메시지 세부분으로 나눠 진행하였으며, 각각의 결과를 통해 현재 커뮤니케이션시스템의 문제점을 살펴보고, 향후 통합적 마케팅 커뮤니케이션(IMC) 전략의 활용 방향에 대한 가능성 있는 제안을 제시하고자 한다.
