한국인의 식이섬유 섭취 실태 (Dietary Fiber Intake of Korean)

  • According to the data published in 1990s on the intake of dietary fiber(DF) of Korean, DF intake of Korean has been gradually decreasing in the last two decades. Mean daily intake of DF in 1990s is estimated to be in the rage of 17-20g per capita and over seventy five percent of the subjects examined appeared to consume DF less than 20g per day. The major food sources of Df in Korean diet include cereals, vegetables, fruits, seaweeds and seasonings. The present level of DF intake of Korean is lower than the tentatively recommended minimum intake of DF. It is predicted that, if the present trend of change on food consumption pattern is maintained, the gradual increases in the incidence of chronic degenerative diseases will be continuing. Therefore, the beneficial effects of DF on health care and disease control should be emphasized through the nutritional education and high level consumption of DF needs to be strongly recommended in the dietary guideline. In order to raise the daily consumption of DF, more whole grain cereals need to be used as a part of staple and more frequent intake of legumes and seaweeds is required as well as the development of high-fiber diet recipes and natural high-fiber products.

Estimated dietary isoflavone intake among Korean adults

  • This study estimated the isoflavone intake level in Koreans using Food Frequency Questionnaire and analyzed related variables. The results showed that the average daily intake of isoflavone in adults was shown as 23.1 mg. The isoflavone intake level at 50 percentile was 16.9 mg ($0{\sim}90\;mg$), and 10% of adults took almost 50 mg of isoflavone a day and 10% took about 5 mg a day. The major food sources for isoflavone in Koreans were in the order of soybean, soybean paste, soy milk, soybean curd (tofu), and bean sprouts; the intake was different depending on age, educational background, occupation, economic standard, and family type. The result showed higher isoflavone intake levels in the group over 30 years old and the highest isoflavone intake in subjects working in farming/fishery, followed by housemakers. According to the differences by families the families with elderly members showed 50% higher isoflavone intake than young families with friends or siblings. Depending on related ecological variables, therefore, various nutrition education programs should be developed for a variety of intakes of soybean foods, along with easy and simple cooking methods as parts of continuous research.

Effect of Glucose-Sweetened Drinks on Blood Glucose, Energy, and Water Intake at a Meal 3h Later in Healthy Males

  • The aims of this study were to describe the effects of glucose-sweetened drinks on blood glucose, energy, and water intake at a meal 3 hours later. The effect of blood glucose on prandial energy intake and the relationship between water and energy intake during a meal were also determined. Twenty healthy normal-weight men were fed pizza test meals 3h after consuming four drinks of 0, 50g, 65g, and 75g glucose in random order, within-subjects design. Blood samples were measured at baseline and every 30 min after ingestion of drinks and 30min after the end of the test meal and the appetite was also assessed by visual analog test at the same interval. The results of this study showed that various glucose drinks altered blood glucose responses compared with that of water control(p<0.0001). Blood glucose areas under the curve(AUC) for glucose-sweetened drinks were significantly(p<0.05) higher than that for the control over 3 hours after a drink and 30 min after the test meal. Consumption of the glucose-sweetened drinks significantly increased(p<0.05) energy and water intake at a test meal compared with the water control, except the drink containing 75g glucose. For all drinks combined, the energy intake was negatively correlated with the blood glucose and positively correlated with the volume of water consumed at a test meal at 3 hours later.

Individual Variation of Na Intake and Urinary Excretion in Korean Women

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the daily variation of Na intake as measured by dietary methods(weighing vs food analysis) and to examine the difference between urniary Na excretion and dietary Na intake in 9 healthy free living women aged 25-64 years living in Taegu, Korea. Information on the dietary Na intake for 5 consecutive days was collected using he weighing method. Twenty four-hour urine samples were collected for the same period to measure the urinary Na excretion. In order to figure out the difference of Na intake with respect to dietary assessment methodology, dietary intake was measured by the weighing method for three of a total 5 days. At the same time, the meals that subjects consumed each day were collected to analyze daily intake of each subject by the food analysis method. The mean Na intake of subjects for 5 consecutive days by the weighing method was 3558. 5mg. The mean of urinary Na excretion for the same period was 2847.5mg/ Na intake and Urinary Na excretion of each subject ranged from 4475.3 to 2838.4, from 4066.4rmg to 1936.1mg respectively. The mean of Na intake for 3 days by the analysis method and the weighing method were 3044.6mg and 3441.6mg, respectively. Each subject showed a great difference among day-to-day variation of Na intake by the weighting method, analysis method and urinary Na excretion method. Therefore, a short term study period may not be valid to estimate the true average Na intake.

부산지역 학령전 아동의 칼슘 및 나트륨의 섭취와 소변중 칼슘배설상태에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Calcium and Sodium Intakes and Urinary Calcium Excretion of Preschool Children in Busan)

  • To assess calcium and sodium and urinary excretion of preschool children in Busan and to evaluate the relationship of intakes of food and nutrient with urinary calcium excretion, calcium and sodium food frequencies of 25 common foods affecting intakes of calcium and sodium per week, nutrient intake by 24hr recall and 24hr urinary calcium and sodium excretion were measured with 97 preschool children. The mean calcium intake was 436.11mg and below RDA. The mean sodium intake was 1890.11mg. The mean urinary calcium and sodium excretion were 42.88mg and 735.25mg respectivery. The mean urinary calcium/creatinine ratio was 0.20. The urinary calcium excretion showed positive significant correlations with weight, intake frequency of pizza consumed per week and urinary sodium excretion (p<0.05, p<0.05, p<0.001). The urinary calcium excretion per milligram of creatinine showed positive significant correlations with intake frequencies of pizza and common squid consumed per week(p<0.01, p<0.05) and negative correlation with intake frequencies of pizza and common squid consumed per week(p<0.01, p<0.05) and negative correlation with age(p<0.05). No significant relations were found between urinary calcium and intakes of calcium, protein and phosphorus. Urinary sodium was found to be the most important determinant of urinary calcium excretion. Intake frequency of pizza consumed per week was found to be the most important determinant of urinary calcium excretion per milligram of creatinine. Based on the results, urinary calcium excretion was related to intake frequency of pizza consumed per week and urinary sodium excretion. Low calcium intake and increase of calcium loss in the urine potentiated by sodium intake during growth may reduce peak bone mass. So nutritional education is needed in order to increase calcium intake and decrease sodium intake, especially from food like pizza.

경계 요소법과 평면파 이론을 이용한 흡기계 해석 (An Analysis of Intake System using BEM and 1-D Solution)

  • The application of the 4-pole parameter method with 1 - D theory is acceptable for intake system analysis. However, the limitaion appears during the analysis of complicated intake system since this method is developed based on the plane wave thoery. For the intake system analysis, the usage of BEM(Boundary Element Method) is introduced describing its disadvantage. To combine benefits of both method. a hybrid method is introduced. This hybrid method consists of the 4-pole parameter with I-D theory and BEM. The developed method is applied to an automobile intake system analysis to obtain the transmission loss.

  • Turbulent flows in a intake part of vacuum cleaner are studied by RANS simulations. The governing equations are solved by the SIMPLE algorithm based on the finite volume method of the unstructured grid system. The predicted results show that the suction performance is closely related to the variation of flow structure in the intake part. In order to investigate for the cleaning of bedclothes and carpet without sticking, several design changes are applied. The introduction of a solid cylinder in the intake part changes vortical structures significantly. Based on this result, a new design with spiral brushes is proposed. The design shows a good behavior for the suction performance and the flow control.

Flow Field Analysis inside Intake Nozzles of a Household Vacuum Cleaner

  • The inside configuration of intake nozzle of vacuum cleaner greatly affects the dust-collection efficiency and acoustic-noise effect generated from flow separation Interaction between high-speed flow and internal structure. In order to improve the performance of the vacuum cleaner, flow fields inside the intake nozzles were investigated using flow visualization and FIV (Particle Image Vetocimetry) technique. The measurement to aerodynamic power, suction efficiency and noise level were also carried out. Valuable information was obtained from the experiments, revealing how to modify the intake nozzle. In this paper, the results of visualization, velocity distribution of flow fields, aerodynamic power, suction efficiency and noise level are discussed.

LDV를 이용한 급속연소형 흡기포트 설계에 관한 연구 (A study on intake ports design for a fast burn engine using a LDV)

  • The combustion process is the most important process in the S.I. engine since it determines performance and emissions. As the flame propagates slowly due to EGR or lean mixture, the fast burn system is widely used in the modern engines in order to improve engine performance. As the basic research for the fast burn system of the S.I engine, this study is aimed to identify the effects of the intake port design on the air motion inside a cylinder. In this study various intake ports were designed and tested. Swirl levels for the different intake ports were measured by a swirl meter and LDv.Also transient air motion inside a cylinder is further investigated following the motion of the boston. Out of the various intake ports tested in this study the masked shroud head (MSH) generates the highest swirl while keeping satisfactory volumetric efficiency. The MSH port also produces high level of turbulence by shearing action between cylinder wall and swirl.
