In today's rapidly growing contemporary society, there is a tendency for demand to automate production processes by utilizing the vision system. In general, image recognition is mainly concerned with embossed characters such as license plates, and research on recognition of intaglio characters is very limited. Especially, intaglio characters, which are marked on rubber related products such as tire surfaces, have difficulty in recognizing characters or numbers through image because the difference in brightness with surrounding is not so large. In this paper, we propose a system to improve the recognition rate of characters marked on intaglio rubber products such as tire surfaces. Also, it can be applied flexibly according to the lighting environment. Through the proposed system, production and inventory management and defect detection can be processed quickly by applying to the production process of tire and rubber products.

We propose expert system for restoration the original character form of ancient relics based on image processing and computer graphics. Letters engraved in relief like relics and intaglio like curved tombstones and letters engraved in plane or curved part of cultural asset may have been broken by a lot of rubbed copy, a long time and tide. In this paper, we suggest a new method for extracting and recovering the broken letters of cultural asset into an original form by using Z-map, morphological filter, and high frequency filter. Based on the suggested method. we develop the character recovering system.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the expressive characteristics of Chinese shadow puppetry costumes. Literature study and case analysis were conducted using books, research papers, and materials from the Xi'an shadow puppetry museum. Based on the Chinese traditional costumes, the shape characteristics are utilized with the intaglio and embossing techniques, and the complex and unnecessary details are omitted to express the costume image in a characteristic and simple manner. Second, colour was used according to the traditional Chinese symbolic colour concept, and the brighter the colour, the higher the role's status. The colour was also used to express identity and character. In addition, relatively vivid and highly saturated colours were used for the transparent effect of the shadow puppetry. Third, a role's status is indicated by the density and completeness of the patterns; the higher the role's status, the more complex and sophisticated the patterns, and the lower the status, the simpler the patterns or no patterns are used. Fourth, the faith for blessing expressed in the shadow puppetry is a representative folk auspicious culture. The repertoire of the shadow puppetry and the patterns on the costumes worn by the puppets, express the culture in an implicit way to symbolize the meaning of auspicious things.

Hanging boards of the Joseon royal court are hung on buildings related to the royal family, such as palaces and Jongmyo Shrine, to show the hierarchy and character of the building. In addition, the manufacturing method and materials are recorded in the royal protocols of the Joseon Dynasty, so it is an important material for studying the manufacturing method and material changes at that time. However, the hanging boards were restored several times due to fire or war, and it is presumed that there is a change in the original form and material of the hanging boards. In particular, many hanging boards of the Joseon royal court were written with calligraphy by kings, so there are many forms consisting of gold letters on a black background. This study tried to analyze the pigments remaining in the letters of 44 of the Joseon royal hanging boards, which are presumed to be gold letters, and to find out the changes in the hanging board production method and materials by referring to the analysis results. The letters of the hanging boards studied were classified according to the current state of the gold pigment and the detected components. As a result of the analysis of character pigments, 24 embossing techniques and 5 intaglio techniques were mainly detected with gold (Au), but 15 embossing techniques were detected with brass (Cu, Zn). Only blue-green substances, not gold pigments, remain in some of the hanging boards in which brass components were detected. A reproduction experiment was conducted because the pigments of the brass component were not recorded in the literature and were not currently used as Dancheong pigments. In the reproduction experiment, it was difficult to confirm the application and use of brass pigments due to the limitations of materials, but it is judged that research on the timing and method of using brass pigments is needed in the future.
