The Fault Diagnosis of a Transformer Using Neural Network and Transfer Function

  • A transformer is one of the most important elements in the power network. Transformer faults could cause costly repairs and be dangerous to personnel. To avoid this, its reliable operation has great significance and, therefore, the diagnosis system of the transformer is necessitated. The dissolved gas-in-oil analysis (DGA) is the worldwide popular method of detecting faults such as a hot spot or partial discharges inside the transformer. DGA, however, is not a reliable technique to identify aging phenomena and mechanical faults including insulation failure, inter-turn short, etc. To overcome the drawbacks of DGA, the transfer function method is used to identify effectively these kinds of the mechanical faults.   • In this study, we investigated operating characteristics of natural gas fuel processor for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). The fuel processor consists of a natural gas reformer, a water-gas shift reactor, a heat-exchanger and a burner, in which the overall integrated volume is exactly(exceptionally) small, namely, about 10L except outer insulation. The producted hydrogen is $1Nm^3/hr$ and the maximum thermal efficiency is ${\sim}76%$(low heating value) at full operating load. A compact and highly efficient $1Nm^3/hr$ class natural gas fuel processor was developed at UNISON is an advantage for application in residential PEMFCs co-generation systems.

  • 국내 지중송전선로의 포설형태는 시스유기전압과 시스순환전류를 저감하기 위해 케이블을 정삼각배열 및 접속함의 위치를 일정거리를 유지하여 시공하고 있다. 그러나 시공 형태에 따라 시스성분은 달라진다. 본 논문에서는 지중송전선로 접속함의 위치를 변경시켜 시스성분을 해석한 후 상호 비교하였고 그 결과를 통하여 절연접속함 위치변경의 효용성을 평가한 후 제안하였다. 모델링 및 해석은 EMTP를 이용하였다.

  • This work is to study the effect of load current on 6.6 kV power cables in operation. In order to figure out the relationship between load current and temperature of the power cables, we have developed measuring equipment for insulation resistance, temperature, and current tested on 9 cables at power station, Western Power Co. Ltd. The cables used in our test were in operation for the last 18 years. Our research over a year showed that the remaining lifetime of 8 cables was more than 20 years. The remaining lifetime of one cable was about 16 to 18 years.

  • Many power plants built 20-30 years ago are facing problems associated with the excitation system used for controlling generator output voltage. After years of reliable operation, generation is experiencing increased down time due to maintenance associated with the exciting excitation equipment. Reliability of the excitation system has become an issue, especially where many of these generation plants may be critical to the internal processes used for manufacturing. Wear out mechanisms such as those associated with the wire wound rheostat the electromechanical voltage regulator, insulation failures of the rotating exciter and commutator deterioration have become real problems typical of many older installations. These are some of the issues that are affecting system reliability for older power plants. This paper will address typical problems associated with the old excitation systems and the justification for a replacement static excitation system used in many Paper Mills.

  • In Thailand, the electricity consumption is very high with the intention of reduce high temperature in the building. Since 2000, a lot of people paying attention to Green-Building concept. A similar concept is natural building, which is usually on a smaller scale and tends to focus on the use of natural materials that are available locally. Therefore, the Earth-Block (EAB) product is appropriated approach to reduce energy consumption in the buildings. The EAB is produced with environmentally friendly process, which does not release harmful pollution and effective cost. The main significant character is durable materials for building construction. This study aims to develop the new thermal insulation by using soil-cement with vetiver grass fibre. Additionally, it describes the innovative systems used in production of EAB materials by mixing the soil-cement with vetiver grass fibre. This paper reveals lowest costs, space configurations changing and greater design flexibility for constructing the building.

  • This paper described the design and fabrication of a series arc detection module to monitor electrical insulation in low-voltage system. The module consists of a passive high-pass filter with a low cut-off frequency of 3 kHz to attenuate power frequency voltage by 80 dB and an active band-pass filter with a frequency of 4 kHz to detect series arc signals only. For the application experiment, we simulated series arcing phenomena on various loads such as incandescent lamp controlled by dimmer and inverter fed induction motors by an arc generator specified in UL1699. From the experimental results, we could detect series arc signals without an influence of noises.

  • This study is concern with the design of experiment planning for quality improvement in flow shop manufacturing system. In this study, the procedure of two stage experiment planning are proposed and applied to the manufacturing process of Li/$MnO_2$ batteries. The result of in this paper is that, compared with the current process conditions, 52% of the insulation inspection process, 81.6% of the first premier discharge process, 98.5% of the second premier discharge process, 84.7% of O.C.V./C.C.V. process, and 86.2% of voltage inspection process are decreased. After a given period of time, the life of the batteries extends to 75 hours, which means the 15% improvement in capacity. In case that the proposed methods are applied to the process Improvements of the flow shop manufacturing system, the much effected in experimental cost- saving and quality improvement.

  • Since cryogens are stored at very low temperatures, the cryogenic storage systems are quite sensitive to heat leaks. Even though the vessel operated under sealed condition with vacuum insulation and reflective coatings are used, the heat leakage into the vessel is still unavoidable. Therefore, this paper concerns with numerical study of self-pressurization used to analysis the optimum design with the variation volume fraction, effect of heat flux and storage pressure of liquid nitrogen. The result shows that as the volume fraction increases, the pressure rise reduces and the relatively at atmosphere pressure is better than the higher one. In addition, higher heat flux leads the pressure rise increases faster than low one. The additional of heat pipe system to reduce the pressure rise rate also has been done. By this comparison, the optimum design for storage umbilical cord blood can be selected.

  • The characteristics on the interface between Epoxy and EPDM which are materials of the underground insulation systems of power delivery have studied. The breakdown strength of specimens are observed by applying high AC voltage at the room temperature. The breakdown times under the constant voltage below the breakdown voltage were gained. As constant voltage is applied the breakdown time is proportion to the breakdown strength. The life exponent n is gained by inverse power law and the long breakdown life time can be evaluated. AC breakdown strength and life time is improved by oiling to the interface. When the low viscosity oil is spread interface has the highest life time.
