Endodontic treatment of a C-shaped mandibular second premolar with four root canals and three apical foramina: a case report

  • This case report describes a unique C-shaped mandibular second premolar with four canals and three apical foramina and its endodontic management with the aid of cone-beam computer tomography (CBCT). C-shaped root canal morphology with four canals was identified under a dental operating microscope. A CBCT scan was taken to evaluate the aberrant root canal anatomy and devise a better instrumentation strategy based on the anatomy. All canals were instrumented to have a 0.05 taper using 1.0 mm step-back filing with appropriate apical sizes determined from the CBCT scan images and filled using a warm vertical compaction technique. A C-shaped mandibular second premolar with multiple canals is an anatomically rare case for clinicians, yet its endodontic treatment may require a careful instrumentation strategy due to the difficulty in disinfecting the canals in the thin root area without compromising the root structure.

시그마 델타 구조를 사용한 웨이블릿 변환영역 사인 알고리즘 설계 (Design of the Wavelet Transform Domain Sign algorithm using Sigma-Delta structure)

  • 본 논문에서는 $\Sigma\Delta$ 변조된 입력신호를 갖는 적응필터의 수렴특성을 연구하여 향상 방안을 제시하였다. 하드웨어적인 측면에서 효율적인 해상도를 내는 $\Sigma\Delta$ 변조기는 중저주파 대역의 신호를 처리하는데 널리 사용되고 있다. $\Sigma\Delta$ 변조신호는 항상 $\pm1$의 값만을 갖기 때문에, 사인 알고리즘을 사용하는 적응필터와 효율적으로 결합될 수 있다. 하지만, PCM 신호에 대비하여 $\Sigma\Delta$ 변조 신호의 상대적인 길이가 길어 이를 처리하는 적응필터의 길이가 증가하고, 아울러 사인 알고리즘 자체가 갖는 수렴속도의 문제점 때문에 이러한 결합은 불안정한 수렴 특성을 보이게 된다. 본 연구에서는 $\Sigma\Delta$ 변조된 입력신호에 대하여 웨이블릿 변환을 적용한 변환영역 적응필터를 설계하였으며, 수렴속도가 향상됨을 시스템 식별의 응용예를 통하여 검증하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 GSC(Generalized Sidelobe Canceller)를 기초로 새로운 부밴드 광대역 적응 빔포밍 구조를 제안하였다. 일반적으로 여러개의 필터계수를 갖는 광대역 빔포밍에서는 그 필터길이가 커짐에 따라 많은 계산량을 필요로 하고 그 성능이 감소한다는 단점이 있었다. 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위해 부밴드 필터구조를 이용함으로써 전밴드 필터구조에서보다 더 낮은 계산량과 그 pre-whitening 효과로 그 성능이 향상되었다. 부밴드 필터뱅크 구조에서 광대역 적응 빔포밍이 수행될 때 NLMS(Normalized Least Mean Squares) 적응 알고리즘을 이용하여 GSC의 수렴성능을 검증하였고, 각각의 부밴드 적응필터에서 MSE를 독립적으로 최소화시키는 적응 메카니즘을 사용하여 추정하였다. 모의실험을 통하여 제안한 부밴드 필터구조가 전밴드 구조에서보다 수렴성능이 더 우수함을 검증하였다.

  • This paper shows two models of the TMR system- fail passive system - having a fault tolerant system characteristic used in airplane and railway system. We design the single system, single-voter TMR system and triplicated voter TMR system based on MC68000 and calculate the failure rate of components using MIL-SPEC-217F and evaluate the reliability and MTTF(Mean Time To Failure) of the designed systems by Markov model.

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of robust stability of large-scale uncertain linear systems with time-varying delays. The considered uncertainties are both unstructured uncertainty which is only known its norm bound and structured uncertainty which is known its structure. Based on Lyapunov stability theorem and $H_{\infty}$ theory. we present uncertainty upper bound that guarantee the robust stability of systems. Especially, robustness bound are obtained directly without solving the Lyapunov equation. Finally, we show the usefulness of our results by numerical example.

U-형 슬랏을 이용한 이중 공진 PIFA 설계 (Design of A Dual-resonance PIFA Using U-Type Slot)

  • 본 논문은 2.4 GHz 와 5 GHz 대역에서 802.11n 규격에 사용가능한 이중 공진 PIFA(Planar Inverted F-Antenna)를 제안하였다. 이중 공진을 위해 2.4 GHz 대역에서는 패치, 5 GHz 대역에서는 U-형 슬랏을 이용하여 PIFA를 설계하였다. 단락판과 급전핀의 위치, 단락판의 폭, U-형 슬랏의 두께, U-형 슬랏의 위치를 변경시키며 HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulation)를 이용하여 안테나의 특성변화를 조사하였다. 실제 시제품을 제작하여 측정한 값과 시뮬레이션 값을 비교 분석한 결과, U-형 슬랏의 위치가 급전핀과 멀어질수록, 그 두께가 얇을수록 안테나의 특성이 좋아지는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Dismountable steel tensegrity grids as alternate roof structures

  • This paper reviews the concept of tensegrity structures and proposes a new type of dismountable steel tensegrity grids for possible deployment as light-weight roof structures. It covers the fabrication of the prototype structures followed by their instrumentation, destructive testing and numerical analysis. First, a single module, measuring $1m{\times}1m$ in size, is fabricated based on half-cuboctahedron configuration using galvanised iron (GI) pipes as struts and high tensile stranded cables as tensile elements. Detailed instrumentation of the structure is carried out right at the fabrication stage. The structure is thereafter subjected to destructive test during which the strain and the displacement responses are carefully monitored. The structure is modelled and analyzed using finite element method (FEM) and the model generated is updated with the experimental results. The investigations are then extended to a $2{\times}2$ grid, measuring $2m{\times}2m$ in size, fabricated uniquely by the cohesive integration of four single tensegrity modules. After updating and validating on the $2{\times}2$ grid, the finite element model is extended to a $8{\times}8$ grid (consisting of 64 units and measuring $8m{\times}8m$) whose behaviour is studied in detail for various load combinations expected to act on the structure. The results demonstrate that the proposed tensegrity grid structures are not only dismountable but also exhibit satisfactory behaviour from strength and serviceability point of view.

Acoustic Metal Impact Signal Processing with Fuzzy Logic for the Monitoring of Loose Parts in Nuclear Power Plang

  • This paper proposes a loose part monitoring system (LPMS) design with a signal processing method based on fuzzy logic. Considering fuzzy characteristics of metallic impact waveform due to not only interferences from various types of noises in an operating nuclear power plant but also complex wave propagation paths within a monitored mechanical structure, the proposed LPMS design incorporates the comprehensive relation among impact signal features in the fuzzy rule bases for the purposes of alarm discrimination and impact diagnosis improvement. The impact signal features for the fuzzy rule bases include the rising time, the falling time, and the peak voltage values of the impact signal envelopes. Fuzzy inference results based on the fuzzy membership values of these impact signal features determine the confidence level data for each signal feature. The total integrated confidence level data is used for alarm discrimination and impact diagnosis purposes. Through the perpormance test of the proposed LPMS with mock-up structures and instrumentation facility, test results show that the system is effective in diagnosis of the loose part impact event(i.e., the evaluation of possible impacted area and degree of impact magnitude) as well as in suppressing false alarm generation.

탄소나노튜브를 이용한 텅스텐 나노팁 전계방출기 제작 (Fabrication of a Nano-sized Conical-type Tungsten Field-emitter Based on Carbon Nanotubes)

  • Nano-sized conical-type tungsten(W) field-emitters based on carbon nanotubes(CNTs) are fabricated with the configuration of CNTs/catalyst/buffer/W-tip by adopting various buffer layers, such as TiN, Al, Al/TiN, and Al/hi/TiN. This study focuses on elucidating how the buffer layers affect the structural properties of CNTs and the electron-emission characteristics of CNT-emitters. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM) are used to monitor the nanostructures and surface morphologies of all the catalysts and CNTs grown. The crystalline structure of CNTs is also characterized by Raman spectroscopy. Furthermore, the measurement of field-emission characteristics for all the field-emitters fabricated shows that the emitter using the Al/Ni/TiN stacked buffer reveals the most excellent performances, such as maximum emission current of $202{\mu}A$, threshold field of 2.08V/${\mu}m$, and long-term (up to 24h) stability of emission current.

  • This paper deals with the problem of placement/sizing of distributed piezo actuators to achieve the control objective of vibration suppression. Using the mean square response as a performance index in optimization, we obtain optimal placement and sizing of the actuator. The use of genetic algorithms as a technique for solving optimization problems of placement and sizing is explored. Genetic algorithms are also used for the control strategy. The analysis of the system and response moment equations are carried out by using the Fokker-Planck equation. This paper presents the design and analysis of an active controller and optimal placement/sizing of distributed piezo actuators based on genetic algorithms for a flexible structure under random disturbance, shows numerical example and the result.
