  • This study investigates a new seismic retrofit system that utilizes rotational friction dampers and axial springs. The retrofit system involves a steel frame with rotational friction dampers (RFD) at beam-column joints and linear springs at the corners, providing energy dissipation and self-centering capabilities to existing structures. The axial spring acts as a self-centering mechanism that eliminates residual deformations, while the friction damper mitigates seismic damage. To evaluate the seismic performance of the proposed retrofit system, a series of cyclic loading tests were carried out on a steel beam-column subassembly equipped with the proposed devices. An analytical model was then developed to validate the experimental results. A performance point ratio (PPR) was presented to optimize the design parameters of the retrofit system, and a performance-based seismic design strategy was developed based on the PPR. The retrofit system's effectiveness and the presented performance-based design approach were evaluated through case study models, and the analysis results demonstrated that the developed retrofit system and the performance-based design procedure were effective in retrofitting structures for multi-level design objectives.

  • The installed capacity of wind turbines in KOREA are growing and enlarging by the central government's support program. Thus, the importance of power performance verification and its uncertainty analysis are recognizing rapidly. This paper described the Power testing results of a 1.5MW wind turbine and analysed an uncertainty level of measurements. The measured power curves are very closely coincide with the calculated one and the annual power production under the given Rayleigh wind speed distribution are estimated with the $4.7{\sim}22.0%$ of uncertainty but, in the dominant wind speed region as $7{\sim}8m/s$, the uncertainty are stably decreased to $7{\sim}8%$.

  • Performance of ground-source heat pumps (GSHPs) is mainly affected by ground heat exchangers which makes up more than 40% of construction cost. Exact construction and grout as backfill are important, because it is difficult to repair after being installed. As grout materials, bentonite grout material and cement material are used In this paper, thermal conductivity according to mix proportion of cement grout has been experimentally studied. Some variables were set to evaluate thermal conductivities according to change in cement content, unit water ratio, mass per volume of fresh mortar, and aggregate types. From the experimental analysis, high performance cement grout has been proposed.

  • In the present study, improvement of the solar collector performance by utilizing honeycomb structures is being investigated. Installation of honeycomb structures inside of the collector induces the suppression of would-be natural convection phenomena within the collector enclosure spacing. It also minimizes infrared radiation heat loss from the collector absorber plate to the surrounding. Experiments have been carried out a collector with 40*20mm rectangular honeycombs, 20*20mm square honeycombs and without honeycombs. The results are presented for the three cases for comparisons. The collector model has been installed at various tilt angle from 15.deg. to 60.deg. measured from the ground. The influence of the tilt angle to the heat performance of the collector is also presented.

  • The performance test apparatus of liquid-phase plate heat exchanger was installed and the computer program for design was developed in this study. The detail temperature distribution of hot and cold fluids in each path of heat exchanger was calculated by numerical method and the correlation for the heat transfer coefficient was defined. The heat transfer coefficients were measured using the working fluids of water and glycerine to investigate the effect of fluid viscosity. The measured heat transfer coefficients were compared with the calculated values obtained from the computer program and it was shown that error of the calculated values was generally less than 5%.

  • This paper presents a proof-of-concept study on the evaluation of torsional vibration isolation performance through in-situ output torque measurement by using a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer installed in the vehicle driveline system. The de-trending processing is first conducted to extract the torsional vibration from the measured driveline output torque. In order to estimate the transmissibility, primary performance indicator of a vibration isolator, the magnitude of transmitted torsional vibration with different frequencies is compared. From the conservative estimation results, the torsional damper built in a lock-up clutch of a torque converter is identified to be a vibration isolator. The evaluation results show that the fluid damping by torque converter outperforms the vibration isolation function of a torsional damper, and the isolation performance needs to be enhanced.

  • Flow field downstream of an inducer was measured to see the flow and performance characteristics of a turbopump inducer. A large axisymmetric collector instead of a volute casing was installed to obtain circumferentially uniform flow - without interaction of the inducer and the volute. A conventional 3-hole probe was used to measure the flow. At inducer exit, axial component of absolute velocity decreased on hub region with decrease in flow rate. Tangential velocity component, static pressure, and total pressure increased from hub to tip. Relative flow angle from tangential direction was a little higher than outlet blade angle at flow coefficient ${\phi}=0.087$ and 0.073. Dynamic pressure was $53\%$ of the mean total pressure at inducer exit at ${\phi}=0.073$.

  • The ambient air is commonly used as low-temperature heat source for heat pump operation. However, the coefficient of performance(COP) of the air to water heat pump is decreased with the ambient air temperature drop. In this study to solve this problem, the AVACTHE(Automatic Variable Area Capillary Type Heat Exchanger) with 3 levels of heat exchange area(0, 1,495.4, 1,794.5$\textrm{cm}^2$)was installed in the refrigerant circuit of the heat pump. The AVACTHE effect on the performance of heat pump was tested with the ambient air temperature variation. The COP improvement of the heat pump could be achieved by the AVACTHE installation when below -5$^{\circ}C$ of the ambient air temperature.
