  • The outfitting design of ships and offshore structures is mainly undertaken in a restricted space. Pipes occupying a large portion of outfitting design are normally manufactured outside the shipyard. This complicated manufacturing process results in frequent delivery delays. Inevitable design modifications and material changes have also resulted in inefficient pipe installation works. In this study, an algorithm is proposed to systematically determine the pipe installation sequence. An accurate and fast algorithm to identify the geometric relationship of piping materials is presented. To improve the calculation efficiency, the interference is gradually examined from simplified to complicated shapes. It is demonstrated that the calculation efficiency is significantly improved with successive geometric operations such as back-face culling and use of bounding boxes. After the final installation sequence is determined, the entire installation process is visualized in a virtual reality environment so that the process can be rendered and understood for a full-scale model.

  • Outfittings of offshore plants and high value-added vessels, such as FPSO, drillship, are much more than outfittings of general ships. So the complexity of the outfittings is increased and the importance of outfittings has also increased. But, there is no clear method to define the installation sequence of outfittings, yet. In this study, we developed the algorithm to define the installation sequence of outfittings by applying variables and constraints related to outfitting, such as process parameters, weighting coefficients, installation constraints. Also, we developed the application that applied the algorithm and compared cases by changing the weighting coefficients of process parameters. We verified the practicality of the algorithm by developing the application. The results of this study are that the accuracy of the outfitting planning is improved and efficient lead time can be predicted by defining the installation sequence of outfittings.

  • When we design the control system used Programmable Logic Controller(PLC) by Sequential Function Chart(SFC), if we use a SFC, it is easy to know the sequential flow of control, to maintenance the controller and to describe a program. We program a SFC by a unique sequence, an alternative sequence and a parallel sequence. If we program a SFC by a alternative sequence, the memory size of a alternative sequence must be larger than the memory size of a unique sequence. Therefore this thesis show an efficient method to reduce a memory size and we confirmed its feasibility through actual example.

  • We had experienced the several system failures which were concerned about zero sequence voltages at the tertiary side of 345[kV] transformers. In this paper, we had considered the zero sequence voltage and its reduction methods at the 345[kV] auto-transformer tertiary. For analysis, we used EMTP(Electro-Magnetic Transients Program). The calculation results by EMTP were compared with the measured data of the field tests. From the calculation and the field tests, we had verified that it is due to pre-saturation characteristics of the potential transformer. So, we had improved its saturation characteristics and applied it at real site. After improvements, we could reduce the zero sequence voltage below the setting level of the relay.

  • Power system fault analysis is commonly based on well-known symmetrical component method, which describes power system elements by positive, negative and zero sequence impedance. The majority of fault in transmission lines is unbalanced fault, such as line-to-ground faults, so that both positive and zero sequence impedance is required for fault analysis. When unbalanced fault occurs, zero sequence current flows through earth and ground wires in overhead transmission systems and through cable sheaths and earth in underground transmission systems. Since zero sequence current distribution between cable sheath and earth is dependent on both sheath bondings and grounding configurations, care must be taken to calculate zero sequence impedance of underground cable transmission lines. In this paper, EMTP-based sequence impedance calculation method was described and applied to 345kV cable transmission systems. Calculation results showed that detailed circuit analysis is desirable to avoid possible errors of sequence impedance calculation resulted from various configuration of cable sheath bonding and grounding in underground cable transmission systems.

  • Recently, sectionalizing switches have been coming to be operated by remote control through the distribution SCADA system. However, the problem of determining the optimal switching sequence is a combinatorial optimization problem, and is quite difficult to solve. Hence, it is imperative to develop practically applicable solution algorithms create a new arbitral distribution system configuration from an initial configuration, and some of these algorithms do not show a load transfer sequence to reach the objective system.

  • The dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is an effective protection device for wind turbine generators based on doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) that is operated under unbalanced voltage dip conditions. The compensating voltages of the DVR depend on the voltage dips and on the influence of the zero sequence component. The zero sequence component results in high insulation costs and asymmetry in terminal voltages. This paper proposes the use of a proportional-resonant controller in stationary reference frames for controlling zero sequence components in the DVR to protect the DFIG during unbalanced voltage dips. To enhance the proposed control method, a comparison is carried out between two cases: with and without using the control of a zero sequence component. Simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method by using the Psim simulation program.

  • In this paper, battery charging and discharging circuit with a single voltage power supply is proposed. The proposed circuit has the separated current path and charging-monitoring sequence control scheme. In the charging sequence, the proposed 2-level comparator combined with control signal of the micro-processor can control the constant charging current to protect the over current of the battery. Furthermore, the proposed circuit uses a periodic main power switch control to detect the discharging characteristics to estimate the approximated battery life-time. In the experiments, the proposed emergency power supply for emergency call system has 89% efficiency with 98% power factor. And the proposed sequence control scheme is well operated in the designed emergency power system.

  • With the proliferation of nonlinear loads such as commercial facilities in all of modern society high neutral harmonic currents have been observed. High neutral currents in three-phase four-wire distribution systems can cause lots of harmonic problems. The most common solution of neutral harmonic currents reduction is a zero phase sequence filter using zig-zag transformer. This paper analyzes a commercially available neutral line zero sequence currents reduction device and applies the equipment to commercial office loads for eliminating harmonics. Experimental results m compared numerically and graphically with simulation results through the use of MATLAB.
