  • Design of velocity-compounded turbine for 75ton class LRE turbopump application and pressure compounded turbine for 30ton class LRE turbopump has been performed. 1D calculation and CFD analysis were conducted in determining blade and flow passage shape of velocity compounded turbine iteratively. Finally, 23.1% improved specific power and 5% reduced weight turbine to the original design was developed. In case of pressure-compounded supersonic turbine design, rotational speed was increased by 50% and the effect of carryover ratio, 2nd nozzle installation angle, leakage flow of 2nd nozzle, and work sharing factor was studied. Final 1D design resulted 36% increased specific power and 51% reduced weight comparing to the original single-row impulse turbine. It is anticipated that nozzle flow path design will be very important for the accomplishment of expected performance of pressure-compounded turbine and nozzle shape optimization will be conducted through the CFD analysis.

  • Skin friction may be one of the most critical factors in designing the prebored and precast pile. Special attention was given to the interface behavior of cement milk-surrounding soil during the installation of prebored and precast pile. Small-scale field model pile test was conducted for the case of single pile. The size and geometry of the small-scale field model piles were designed with pile length 1.3m, boring diameter 0.067 m. Quick maintain-load test was conducted for the cases of boring diameter 150, 125, 90, 86, 74 mm and water-cement ratio 90, 70, 60%. It was shown that the bearing capacity of the pile increased as the cement-water ratio and cement milk thickness increased. Considering the scale effect between the small-scale model test and the actual construction site, it was found that cement milk thickness of 0.1~0.4D (50~200 mm) was reasonable for the stability of the structure. Also, the proper cement paste water / cement ratio was about 70% when considering the results of this study and quality control.

  • Unitex is widely used for the floor structure of urban railway vehicles because it shows good structural safety and heat insulation, has long life, and lowers the cost owing to easy installation. However, in spite of these merits, Unitex has a limit to the sound insulation performance, which is very important in vehicle structure. It shows a sound transmission loss considerably lower than the mass law value, which indicates the sound insulation performance per unit weight. Recently, railway vehicle manufacturers and Unitex supplier have tried to improve the sound insulation performance of Unitex, but meaningful results have not been achieved yet. Through the industry-university collaborative research, we propose structural improvement methods to increase the sound transmission loss by more than 5dB and we then verify the effect by performing experiments.

  • In a magnetic train set composed of more than two cars, the installation of dampers between cars is carefully considered for improving both the ride quality and the safety, particularly during curve negotiation. In this study, a dynamic simulation of the ride quality and curve negotiation of a Maglev vehicle was carried out. The dynamic model is developed based on multibody dynamics. The presented full vehicle multibody dynamic model integrates the electromagnet model and its control algorithm. By using this model, the effects of the dampers are numerically analyzed. The proposed damper is installed on the vehicle and tested to analyze its effects. In this study, the simulation and measured results of the vehicle behavior and ride quality are discussed.

  • In Floating PV (Photovoltaic) systems, PV modules are installed on water by utilizing the surface of idle water such as a reservoir and multipurpose dam. A floating PV system, therefore, has the advantage of efficiency in national land use and improved energy yield owing to cooling effect compared to on-land PV systems. Owing to the limitation of installation environment for a floating PV system, the system, however, has the disadvantage of an increase in transmission distance of DC (Direct current) cables. A longer transmission distance of a DC cable results in greater power loss due to a voltage drop. This leads to a decline in economic feasibility for the floating PV system. In this paper, the economic analysis for 10 floating PV systems installed in a reservoir has been conducted in terms of a change in annual power sales according to the variation of transmission losses depending on the factors affecting the voltage drop, such as transmission distance, cross-section area of underwater cable, the presence of joint box, and PV capacity.

  • The change of pressure drop according to the change in the inlet concentration, pulse interval, and injection distance of pulse air jet type bag filters, and the effect of venturi installation are as follows. The pressure drop with the range of 30 to $50mmH_2O$ varies according to the injection distance with 30, 50, 70, 90sec and the inlet concentration of venture built-in fabric filters. For the lower concentration of 0.5g/㎥ and 1g/㎥, the pressure $drop(\DeltaP)$ was stable 60 to 90minutes after operation. For the higher concentration of 3g/㎥, as $\DeltaP$ continues to go up, pulse interval should be set shorter than 30 seconds. The pressure drop with the injection distance of 1l0mm, when inlet dust concentration is 0.5g/㎥ or 1g/㎥, is 1.3 to 2 lower than with the injection distance of 50, 160, and 220mm, which means that the inflow amount of the secondary air by the instant acceleration is large. The injection distance of 2g/㎥ and 3g/㎥ has the similar pressure distribution. The higher inlet concentration is, the more important pulse interval is than injection distance. The pressure drop has proved to be larger when inlet concentration is lower and injection distance closer, on condition that the venturi is installed. The change in the pressure drop was smallest when injection distance was 50mm, followed by 220mm, 160mm, and 110mm.

  • GMDSS-the Global Maritime Distress and Safety system which is utilizing the new technologies such as satellite communication system, DSC and NBCP-is effectuated not only by the amendment of SOLAS but also by the conference of RR and IMO's MSC, and will be the major factor of the variation of the demand and supply of Radio Operators. To cope with the GMDSS voluntarily, regulations relating to the radio installation, the posting of Radio Operators, the bounds of duty, etc. must be established and the demand and supply of Radio Operators which take charge of the system must be accomplished pertinently. In this study, the authors suggested some practical schemes to improve the effect of policy as follow. 1. The Ministry of Communication must supervise strictly the arrangement of Radio Operators, especially relating tot he legally qualified complement of Radio Station, and must review the official certification system to upgrade the quality of Radio Operators. 2. The Ministry of Communication must take overall charge of the qualitifications and technical standards of Radio Operators, the extent of their engagement, etc. which are provided by International Regulations. 3. Relating Administrations must cooperate with Shipping Companies in onboard-training to foster and ensure the manpower of Radio Operators. 4. Institutional devices to drive the resolute investment in education and training for mariners, especially for the ship's officers, must be prepared. 5. The Communication Administration and the Korea Maritime and Port Adminstration(KMPA) must cooperate mutually in the balance of the demand and supply of Radio Operators and use make their best to realize more harmonious policies on the demand and supply of manpower.

  • GMDSS(the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System), which is utilizing recently developed systems such as satellite communications and positioning system, digital communication system, computer and microelectronics technology, etc., has been adopted by International Maritime Orgnization(IMO) and coordina-ted with such organization as the International Telecommunication Union(ITU), World Meteorological Organizatoion(WMO), etc. This system took effect partly on February 1st 1992 according to the 1988 SOLAS Amemdments and, after some more complementary measures, will be fully operational by February 1st 1999. Comparing with the existing communication system, the new system is mainly based on the latest scientific technologies, and therefore overall countermeasure will be necessary to accept the system reasonably. GMDSS will transform the current communication system basically and be the major factor to change the demand and supply of personnel for radio communication. To cope with the system assertively, regulations relating to the radio installation, the posting of radio operators, the bounds of their duty, etc. must be established and the demand and supply of radio operators to meet the system must be accomplished pertinently. Moreover, the technique and quality of the person-nel responsible for the system must be upgraded to carry out the obligations by international regulations as well as to ensure the safety of life and property at sea. Looking into the actual situations of our country, every regulation relating to the GMDSS has been improved, but the concerned educational institutions and administrations have not yet prepared the rational and concrete schemes on the educational methods and adquate procedures for the system. Therefore, in this thesis, the author intends to propose directions for improving the courses and contents of education of the relating educational institutions and to suggest rational schemes for balancing the demand and supply of personnel to the administrative anthorty concerned.

  • In this study, GTAW was carried out on austenitic STS316 stainless steel. Overlay welding with the stellite-base filler metal was implemented using a double torch. The response variable was calculated on the measured Vickers hardness for process optimization using the Taguchi method and its response variable was then analyzed about effect on overlay welding characteristics. The optimal process design by the Taguchi method is extremely effective in the overlay welding process for the multiple response variables. In addition, the effects of contribution rate about each response variable was analyzed easily. The conditions of the optimal process were 105A, 18V, pre-heat treatment at $200^{\circ}C$, and post weld heat treatment at $100^{\circ}C$. The Vickers hardness of the specimens produced under the optimal condition of GTAW by the double torch was 8.19% higher than that by a single torch.

  • In this paper, we investigated the effect of light on the performance of the receiver system noise and external noise added from the ever-present influence in general optical system. And calculated the reception sensitivity of the receiver at the time of off-keying transmission - from the optical transmission system in consideration of the case that the photo detector has a quantum yield of less than one-one. Not less than 50 it was confirmed that it is possible to configure the low power system is calculated and compared with the case where less than 300 the receiver sensitivity of the optical system to maintain the standard error probability. However, even if these values were considered, and the preamplifier in the receiver, considering a case of using a low-output light source, so that a heavy burden in the value less than the actual system installation, using the light source having less than the output, as shown in Figure 3, the results that were obtained also may be used.
