  • This paper deals with the algorithm development that inspects defects such as Bright Defect Dots, Dark Defect Dots, and Line Defect caused by the process of LCD(Liquid Crystal Display). While most of LCD production process is automated, the inspection of LCD panel and its appearance depends on manual process. So, the quality of the inspection is affected by the condition of worker. Especially, the more LCD size increases, the more the worker feels fatigued, which causes the probability of miss judgement. So, the automated inspection is required to manage the consistent quality of the product and reduce the production costs. In this paper, to solve these problems, we developed the imaging processing algorithm to inspect the defects in captured image of LCD. Experimental results reveal that we can recognize various types of defect of LCD with good accuracy and high speed.

Domestic market was majorly comprised of VGA(0.3 million pixel) market. But in the middle of year 2004, camera phone with Mega Pixel has appeared, and it is estimated that the camera phone with Mega Pixel will take up to 28% of total phone sales if it is released in the end of year 2004. Since the inspection of finished products is done manually, it is major obstacle in production increment In this paper, to solve these problems, we developed the imaging processing algorithm to inspect the defects in captured image of assembled CCM. The performances of the developed inspection system and we can recognize various types of defect of CCM modules with good accuracy and high speed

  • We have developed an acoustic resonance inspection system to inspect the welding defects in the mechanical parts fabricated using friction stir welding method. The inspection system was consisted of a DAQ board, a microphone sensor, an impact hammer, and controlled by a PC software. The system was developed to collect and analyze the sound signal generated by hitting the sample with an impact hammer to determine whether it is defective. In this study, 100% welded good samples were compared with 95%, 90%, and 85% welded samples, respectively. The variation of the completeness in welding did not affect the visual appearance in the samples. As a result of analyzing the natural frequencies of the good samples, the five natural frequency peaks were identified. In the case of the defective samples, the frequency change was observed. The welding failure detection time was fast enough to be only 0.7 seconds. Employing our welding defect inspection system to the actual industrial field will maximize the efficiency of quality inspection and thus improve the productivity.

  • An increasingly competitive business environment has been concentrated on industries to reduce the operating costs. Industries such as gas, oil, petrochemical, chemical, and electric power have employed for the operation and used for large equipment or structures that require a high capital investment. In order to meet these requirements, the industries are increasingly moving toward saving the experimental verification and computer simulation. Therefore industries to reduce the maintenance costs without compromising the operational safety have been forced on finding for better and more efficient methods to inspect their equipment and structures. In this study, it focused on the development the real-time non-contract monitoring system as an efficient tool for the experimental study of weld defects based on the relationship between the measured voltage and input parameters.

  • Unlike the welded pipes in the primary system of light water nuclear power plants being periodically inspected with in-Service inspection program, relatively small pipes with the outer diameter less than 2 inch have not been regularly inspected to date. However, after several failure reports on the occurrence of critical crack-like defects in small pipes, inspection for the small pipes has been more demanded because it could cause the provisional outage of nuclear power plants. Nevertheless, there's no particular method to examine the small pipes having access limitations for inspection due to various reasons; inaccessible area, excessive radiation exposure, hazardous surrounding, and etc. This study is to develop a reliable inspection technique using torsional and flexural modes of guided wave to detect defects that could occur in inaccessible area. The attribute of guided wave that can travel a long distance enables to inspect even isolated range of the pipe from accessible location. This paper presents a case study of the evaluation test on 3/4" small-bore pipes with guide wave method. The test result demonstrates the crack signal behavior and assures possibility to detect the crack signal in a flexural mode, which is clearly distinguishable from the symmetric structure signal in a torsional mode.

  • As the variability of recent rainfall is increasing, it is becoming important to recognize the possibility of changes in the current reservoir state in advance and to inspect the stability based on accurate evaluation standards. However, the evaluation standards for the state change factors of reservoirs are still not suitable for agricultural reservoirs and thus much improvement is needed. Therefore, in this study, the evaluation criteria for state change factors specialized for small reservoirs were categorized and standards were prepared by considering factors that may cause state changes on the dam crest, upstream slope, and downstream slope of the embankment. The categorized results were configured based on the number of mentions of the precision safety inspection report on major defects in 102 reservoirs and the defect factors found in field investigations. The findings of the study indicated that the current state change standards require many revisions for excessive or unnecessary state change factors in the reservoir. Specifically, the deletion of measurement gauges not applicable to the reservoir, the addition of defects found in the reservoir, and the scope of use of the term were proposed. The results of this study can contribute to efficient system operation and management by improving the deficiencies in the system and introducing a new state change factor.

  • A wind turbine blade is an important component in wind-power generation, and is generally exposed to harsh environmental conditions. Ultrasonic inspection is mainly used to inspect such blades, but it has been difficult to quantify defect sizes in complicated composite structures. Recently, active infrared thermography has been widely studied for inspecting composite structures, in which thermal energy is applied to an object, and an infrared camera detects the energy emitted from it. In this paper, a calibration method for active optical lock-in thermography is proposed to quantify the size. Inclusion, debonding and wrinkle defects, created in a wind blade for 100 kW wind power generation, were all successfully detected using this method. In particular, a ${\phi}50.0mm$ debonding defect was sized with 98.0% accuracy.

  • Recently, with the development of the IT industry, interest in computer convergence technology is increasing in various fields. Especially, in the semiconductor field, a vision system that uses a camera and computer convergence is often used to inspect semiconductor device defects in the production process. Various systems have been studied to remove noise, which is a major cause of degradation in processing of data related to these image processing systems. In this paper, we try to detect defects in BGA (Ball Grid Array) package devices by recognizing defects in advance during mass production. We propose a measurement system using a Gaussian filter, a Median filter, and an Average filter, which are widely used for noise reduction of image data Applying the proposed system to the manufacturing process of the BGA package can be used to judge whether the defect is good or not, and it is expected that productivity will be improved.

  • Nondestructive inspection(NDI) is a testing procedure used to easily inspect an object for internal defects, abnormalities, shape, and structure, etc. without destroying it. Typical candidates for NDI include buildings, railways, aircraft, bridges, underground pipelines and various types of factory equipment. Recent advances in nondestructive evaluation(NDE) technologies have led to improved methods for quality control and in-service inspection, and the development of new options for material diagnostics. Under frame side sill in rolling stocks is designed for preventing corrosion in order to meet mechanical requirements. However during long operation time, there are corrosion in the under frame side sill caused by environmental effect, vibration and etc. This paper introduces the methods of a survey and assessment on NDI applications in Electric Multiple Units(EMU). The main objective of this paper was to obtain information on various applications and evaluation of NDI technology in EMU.

  • This paper presents the algorithm of FIC inspection in chip mounter. When device is mounted on the PCB, it is impossible to get zero defects since there are many problems which can not be predicted. Of these problems, devices with bent corner leads due to mis-handling and which are not placed at a given point measured along the axis are principal problem in SMT(Surface Mounting Technology). In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm based on the Radon transform which uses a projection to inspect the FIC(Flat Integrated Circuit) device and compared this method with other algorithms. We measured the position error and applied this algorithm to our image processing board which is characterized by line scan camera. We compared speed and accuracy in our board.
