  • In this study, the recognition experiments for Korean vowel are performed using peripheral auditory model. In addition, for the purpose of objective comparison, the recognition experiments are performed by extracting LPC cepstrum coefficients for the same speech data. The results are as follows. 1) The time and the frequency responses of the auditory model show that important features of input signal are involved in the responses of inner ear and auditory nerve. 2) The recognition results for Korean vowel show that the recognition rate by auditory model output is higher than the recognition rate by LPC cepstrum coefficients. 3) The adaptation phenomenon of auditory nerve provides useful characteristics for the discrimination of vowel signal.

  • Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have the capability to develop functional relationships between input-output patterns obtained from any source. Thus ANN can be conveniently used to develop a generalised relationship from limited and sometimes inconsistent data, and can therefore also be applied to tackle the data obtained from wind tunnel tests on building models with large number of variables. In this paper ANN model has been developed for predicting wind induced pressures in various zones of a Gable Building from limited test data. The procedure is also extended to a case wherein interference effects on a gable roof building by a similar building are studied. It is found that the Artificial Neural Network modelling is seen to predict successfully, the pressure coefficients for any roof slope that has not been covered by the experimental study. It is seen that ANN modelling can lead to a reduction of the wind tunnel testing effort for interference studies to almost half.

  • A new fast algorithm for computing the discrete cosine transform(DCT) Is developed decomposing N-point DCT into an N /2-point DCT and two N /4 point transforms(transpose of an N /4-point DCT. TN/t'and)It has an important characteristic that in this method, the roundoff noise power for a fixed point arithmetic can be reduced significantly with respect to the wellknown fast algorithms of Lee and Chen. since most coefficients for multiplication are distributed at the nodes close to the output and far from the input in the signal flow graph In addition, it also shows three other versions of factorization of DCT matrix with the same number of operations but with the different distributions of multiplication coefficients.

  • Recently, the demand of rural tourism has been increased to promote farm household income and rural economy. Korean government has supported to promote rural tourism. One of the most difficult tasks in estimating the economic impact of the tourism industry is how the industry should be defined in terms of an economic sector, since tourism is not defined in national Input-Output (I-O) tables or in the Standard Industrial Classification code. Moreover, there is no specified Standard Industrial Classification for rural tourism. The purpose of the study aims to examine specified Standard Industrial Classification of rural tourism using the I-O model analysis to estimate the economic impacts of rural tourism. Results showed that there were two components considered as inputs. One is the inputs that final demand can move to input of rural tourism in I-O tables. The other is one that the final demand was provided by farm household as intermediate inputs.

  • In this paper, the design method of a hybrid fuzzy controller with an optimal auto-tuning method is proposed. The conventional PID controller becomes so sensitive to the control environments and the change of parameters that the efficiency of its utility for the complex and nonlinear plant has been questioned in transient state. In this paper, first, a hybrid fuzzy logic controller(HFLC) is proposed. The control input of the system in the HFLC is a convex combination by a fuzzy variable of the FLC's output in transient state and the PID's output in steady state. Second, a powerful auto-tuning algorithm is presented to automatically improve the Performance of controller, utilizing the improved complex method and the genetic algorithm. The algorithm estimates automatically the optimal values of scaling factors and PID coefficients. Controllers are applied to the plants with time-delay and the DC servo motor Computer simulations are conducted at the step input and the system performances are evaluated in the ITAE.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an optimal model, using existing models, that is able to estimate the amount of spatter utilizing artificial neural network in the short circuit transfer mode of gas metal arc (GMA) welding. The amount of spatter generated during welding can become a barometer which represents the process stability of metal transfer in GMA welding, and it depends on some factors which constitute a periodic waveforms of welding current and arc voltage in short circuit GMA welding. So, the 12 factors, which could express the characteristics for the waveforms, and the amount of spatter are used as input and output variables of the neural network, respectively. Two neural network models to estimate the amount of spatter are proposed: A neural network model, where arc extinction is not considered, and a combined neural network model where it is considered. In order to reduce the calculation time it take to produce an output, the input vector and hidden layers for each model are optimized using the correlation coefficients between each factor and the amount of spattcr. The est~mation performance of each optimized model to the amount of spatter IS assessed and compared to the est~mation performance of the model proposed by Kang. Also, through the evaluation for the estimation performance of each optimized model, it is shown that the combined neural network model can almost perfectly predict the amount of spatter.

  • In this paper, an optimal identification method using Multi-FNN(Fuzzy-Neural Network) is proposed for model ins of nonlinear complex system. In order to control of nonlinear process with complexity and uncertainty of data, proposed model use a HCM clustering algorithm which carry out the input-output data preprocessing function and Genetic Algorithm which carry out optimization of model. The proposed Multi-FNN is based on Yamakawa's FNN and it uses simplified inference as fuzzy inference method and Error Back Propagation Algorithm as learning rules. HCM clustering method which carry out the data preprocessing function for system modeling, is utilized to determine the structure of Multi-FNN by means of the divisions of input-output space. Also, the parameters of Multi-FNN model such as apexes of membership function, learning rates and momentum coefficients are adjusted using genetic algorithms. Also, a performance index with a weighting factor is presented to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization abilities of the model, To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, we use the time series data for gas furnace and the numerical data of nonlinear function.

  • An empirical analysis on the structural causes on the economic underdevelopment of a specific region is an important work for the constituents to solve the submitted problems of those sources of the questions and to establish more active regional economic growth structure hereafter. Basically this paper recognizes that the fragile characteristics of accumulation structure is due to the higher portion of small enterprises and other unfavorable material conditions compared to other regions. On the basis of this estimation, we are going to present some materials to help establishing the development strategies by analysing the structural characteristics of time serial GRDP and Regional Input-Output Tables.

  • A variable structure control scheme that can be applied to the process with input/output delays are proposed and its control performances are evaluated. The proposed VSCS, which is an output fedback scheme, comprises an integrator for tracking the setpoint and the Smith predictor for compensating the effects of time delay. With The VSCS, the robustness against the parameter variations and external disturbances can be achieved even when the controlled process includes I/O delays. And the desired transient response is obtained by simple adjustment of the coefficients of the switching surface equation.
