  • In the evaluation of seismic performance for structural materials and components, the loading rate and axial force can have a significant impact. Due to time-delay effects between input and output displacements, It is difficult to apply high-rate displacement in cyclic tests and hybrid simulations. Additionally, the difficulty of maintaining a consistent vertical load in the presence of lateral displacement has limited fast and real-time tests performed while maintaining a constant vertical load. In this study, slow, fast cyclic tests and real-time hybrid simulations were conducted to investigate the rate dependency and the influence of vertical loads of Isolation Bearing. In the experiment, the FLB System including an Adaptive Time Series (ATS) compensation and a state estimator was constructed for real-time control of displacement and vertical load. It was found that the vertical load from the superstructure and loading rate can have a significant impact on the strength of the seismic isolation bearing and its behavior during an earthquake. When conducting experiments for seismic performance evaluation, they must be implemented to be similar to reality. This study demonstrates the excellent performance of the system built and used for seismic performance evaluation and enables accurate and efficient seismic performance evaluation.

  • Windows operating system generates various logs with timestamps. Timestamp tampering is an act of anti-forensics in which a suspect manipulates the timestamps of data related to a crime to conceal traces, making it difficult for analysts to reconstruct the situation of the incident. This can delay investigations or lead to the failure of obtaining crucial digital evidence. Therefore, various techniques have been developed to detect timestamp tampering. However, there is a limitation in detection if a suspect is aware of timestamp patterns and manipulates timestamps skillfully or alters system artifacts used in timestamp tampering detection. In this paper, a method is designed to detect changes in timestamps, even if a suspect alters the timestamp of a file on a storage device, it is challenging to do so with precision beyond millisecond order. In the proposed detection method, the first step involves verifying the timestamp of a file suspected of tampering to determine its write time. Subsequently, the confirmed time is compared with the file size recorded within that time, taking into consideration the performance of the storage device. Finally, the total capacity of files written at a specific time is calculated, and this is compared with the maximum input and output performance of the storage device to detect any potential file tampering.

  • Based on the tourism input-output data of five provinces and cities in China's Bohai Rim region from 2015~2021, this study analyzes the efficiency of regional tourism using DEA-BCC and DEA-Malmquist index, as well as its contribution to regional economic efficiency, and identifies factors influencing the comprehensive efficiency. The research results indicate that the comprehensive efficiency of the tourism industry in the China Bohai Sea region has reached an optimal level of 88.9%, but there is still room for improvement, with overall fluctuations. The overall productivity of the tourism industry exhibits a "U"-shaped fluctuating pattern, with growth mainly driven by technological advancements. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the region experienced a nearly 50% decrease in total factor productivity in 2019~2020. However, in 2021, with the implementation of various government stimulus policies, the tourism efficiency rapidly recovered to 80% of pre-pandemic levels. In terms of the impact of the tourism industry on the regional economy in the China Bohai Sea region, Hebei Province stands out as a significant contributor. Based on the aforementioned research findings, the following recommendations are proposed in three aspects: optimizing the supply structure, increasing innovation investment, and strengthening internal collaboration. These recommendations provide valuable insights for enhancing regional tourism efficiency and promoting regional synergy.

  • In systems like the combat management system of a naval ship or smart city of civilians, where many sensors and actuators are connected, the middle-ware DDS (Data Distribution Service) is mainly used to transmit large amounts of data. It is scalable and can effectively respond to the increase in sensors or equipment connected to the system in the future. The engineering control system (ECS), which plays an important role similar to the combat management system of a naval ship, still uses Server-Client model with industrial protocols such as Modbus and CAN (Controller Area Network) bus, to transmit data, which is unfavorable in terms of scalability. However, as automation and unmanned systems advance, more sensors and actuators are expected to be added, necessitating substantial program modification. DDS can effectively address such situations. The purpose of this study is to confirm the development possibility of an integrated monitoring and control system of a ship by using OpenDDS, which follows the OMG (Object Management Group) standard among the middle-ware DDS used in the combat management system. To achieve this goal, field equipment simulators and an ECS server were configured to perform field equipment data input/output and simulation using DDS was performed. The ECS prototype successfully handled data transmission, confirming that DDS is capable of serving as the middle-ware for the ECS of a ship.

  • Deep learning requires building a deep neural network, collecting a large amount of training data, and then training the built neural network for a long time. If training does not proceed properly or overfitting occurs, training will fail. When using deep learning tools that have been developed so far, it takes a lot of time to collect training data and learn. However, due to the rapid advent of the mobile environment and the increase in sensor data, the demand for real-time deep learning technology that can dramatically reduce the time required for neural network learning is rapidly increasing. In this study, a real-time deep learning system was implemented using an Arduino system equipped with a fine dust sensor. In the implemented system, fine dust data is measured every 30 seconds, and when up to 120 are accumulated, learning is performed using the previously accumulated data and the newly accumulated data as a dataset. The neural network for learning was composed of one input layer, one hidden layer, and one output. To evaluate the performance of the implemented system, learning time and root mean square error (RMSE) were measured. As a result of the experiment, the average learning error was 0.04053796, and the average learning time of one epoch was about 3,447 seconds.

  • Since the seminal publication of Joseph Nye's Soft Power, soft power became the central concept to public diplomacy. However, over-emphasis on soft power, which is still controversial, deterred academics from producing valuable knowledge that can be applied to practices in the field. Soft power is a cause and effect at the same time and thus it makes systematic analysis almost implausible because it is not only a tool for successful public diplomacy, but it is a result of successful diplomacy. This study aims at offering a theoretical framework linking soft power and public diplomacy by including various factors that may affect the outcomes of effective public diplomacy. This theoretical framework assessing the effectiveness of public diplomacy will make it possible to explore how and when new public diplomacy was adopted in a certain country and examine hard and soft power resources. The model also includes political system variables such as ideas and values, institutions, governance, leadership, and communication system, which are expected to influence public diplomacy effectiveness rather than soft power itself. The model yields the effectiveness of public diplomacy by assessing outcome and impact relative to input and output that are applicable to practices. The model is expected to enable both quantitative and qualitative studies generating possible propositions from the model with some preliminary outcomes of comparative case studies.

  • Dynamic soil properties are essential factors for predicting the detailed behavior of the ground. However, there are limitations to gathering soil samples and performing additional experiments. In this study, we used an artificial neural network (ANN) to predict dynamic soil properties based on static soil properties. The selected static soil properties were soil cohesion, internal friction angle, porosity, specific gravity, and uniaxial compressive strength, whereas the compressional and shear wave velocities were determined for the dynamic soil properties. The Levenberg-Marquardt and Bayesian regularization methods were used to enhance the reliability of the ANN results, and the reliability associated with each optimization method was compared. The accuracy of the ANN model was represented by the coefficient of determination, which was greater than 0.9 in the training and testing phases, indicating that the proposed ANN model exhibits high reliability. Further, the reliability of the output values was verified with new input data, and the results showed high accuracy.

  • Falls are fatal accidents that occur more than 420,000 times a year worldwide. Therefore, to study patients with falls, we found the association between extrinsic injury codes and principal diagnosis S-codes of patients with falls, and developed a prediction model to predict extrinsic injury codes based on the data of principal diagnosis S-codes of patients with falls. In this study, we received two years of data from 2020 and 2021 from Institution A, located in Gangneung City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and extracted only the data from W00 to W19 of the extrinsic injury codes related to falls, and developed a prediction model using W01, W10, W13, and W18 of the extrinsic injury codes of falls, which had enough principal diagnosis S-codes to develop a prediction model. 80% of the data were categorized as training data and 20% as testing data. The model was developed using MLP (Multi-Layer Perceptron) with 6 variables (gender, age, principal diagnosis S-code, surgery, hospitalization, and alcohol consumption) in the input layer, 2 hidden layers with 64 nodes, and an output layer with 4 nodes for W01, W10, W13, and W18 exogenous damage codes using the softmax activation function. As a result of the training, the first training had an accuracy of 31.2%, but the 30th training had an accuracy of 87.5%, which confirmed the association between the fall extrinsic code and the main diagnosis S code of the fall patient.

  • This study was conducted to identify the usage characteristics of the DMZ Punchbowl Trail (DPT) as a national forest trail (NFT) and to estimate its ripple effects on the local economy. The objective of this study is to provide policy implications for sustainable operational management. Out of the 500 questionnaires distributed, 215 respondents provided their complete travel itineraries and expenditures. The respondents, mainly aged 50 and above and residing in the Seoul Metropolitan Area, spend 3.5 hours of travel time to the DPT. Together with their families, the respondents typically spend approximately 4 hours for leisurely activities, primarily appreciation of scenic views and relaxation by visiting the "O-yubatgil." Furthermore, they extend their travels to other parts of Gangwon Province, where the DPT is situated. Within Gangwon Province, Yanggu County is the most visited destination. The respondents reported a notably higher average expenditure per visitor compared with the typical local walking tourists. Estimates show that the DPT generates an annual average of KRW 2.1 billion in direct expenditure (based on an average of 10,000 visitors for over five years), KRW 2.8 billion in production, and KRW 1.3 billion in added value, and it has created 40 jobs in Gangwon Province. The results of this study lies in empirically determining the specific economic scale and ripple effects of DPT as an NFT in the major sector, which occupies a significant portion of the Gangwon Province's local economy. The results will be instrumental in validating NFT policies and informing policy making for sustainable forest utilization.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for establishing a state-space equation model for the motion analysis of floating structures subjected to wave loads, by applying system-identification techniques. Traditionally, the motion of floating structures has been analyzed in the time domain by integrating the Cummins equation over time, which utilizes a convolution integral term to account for the effects of the retardation function. State-space equation models have been studied as a way to efficiently solve floating-motion equations in the time domain. The proposed approach outlines a procedure to derive the target transfer function for the load-displacement input/output relationship in the frequency domain and subsequently determine the state-space equation that closely approximates it. To obtain the state-space equation, the method employs the N4SID system-identification method and an optimization approach that treats the coefficients of the numerator and denominator polynomials as design variables. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we applied it to the analysis of a single-degree-of-freedom model and the motion of a six-degree-of-freedom barge. Our findings demonstrate that the presented state-space equation model aligns well with the existing analysis results in both the frequency and time domains. Notably, the method ensures computational accuracy in the time-domain analysis while significantly reducing the calculation time.
