  • The free-model concept is introduced as an alternative intelligent system technique to design a controller with input and output data only. The idea of free model comes from the Taylor series approximation, where an output can be estimated when such data as position, velocity, and acceleration are known. The parameters in the free model can be estimated using the input-output data and a controller can be designed based on the free model. The free model thus developed is shown to be controllable, observable, and robust. The accuracy of the free-model approximation can be improved by increasing the observation window and the order of the free model.   • In this paper, we introduce an design of fuzzy relation-based fuzzy neural networks with multi-output. Fuzzy relation-based fuzzy neural networks comprise the network structure generated by dividing the entire input space. The premise part of the fuzzy rules of the network reflects the relation of the division space for the entire input space and the consequent part of the fuzzy rules expresses three types of polynomial functions such as constant, linear, and modified quadratic. For the multi-output structure the neurons in the output layer were connected with connection weights. The learning of fuzzy neural networks is realized by adjusting connections of the neurons both in the consequent part of the fuzzy rules and in the output layer, and it follows a back-propagation algorithm. In addition, in order to optimize the network, the parameters of the network such as apexes of membership functions, learning rate and momentum coefficient are automatically optimized by using real-coded genetic algorithm. Two examples are included to evaluate the performance of the proposed network.

  • In this paper, a direct adaptive pole placement controller for an unknown linear time-invariant single-input single-output nonminimum phase plant is proposed. To design this direct adaptive pole placement controller, the auxiliary signals are introduced. Consequently, a linear equation error model is formulated for estimating both the controller parameters and the additional auxiliary parameters. To estimate the controller parameters and the additional auxiliary parameters, the exponentially weighted least-squares algorithm is implemented, and a method of selecting the characteristic polynomials of the sensitivity function filters is proposed. In this method, all the past measurement data are weighted exponentially. A series of simulations for a nonminimum phase plant is presented to illustrate some features of both the parameter estimation and the output response of this adaptive pole placement controller.

  • Underground mining causes surface subsidence long after the mining operation had been ceased. Surface subsidence can be in the form of saucer-shaped depression or collapsed chimneys or sinkholes. Sinkhole formations are predominant over shallow-depth room and pillar mines having weak overburden strata. In this study, occurrences of sinkholes due to mining activity are assessed based on local geological conditions and mining parameters using fuzzy reasoning techniques. All input and output parameters are represented with linguistic hedges. Numerous fuzzy rules are developed to relate sinkhole occurrences with input parameters using fuzzy relational matrix. Based on the combined fuzzy rules, possibility of sinkhole occurrences can be ascertained once the geological and mining parameters of any area are known.

  • A design method of model following control system using neural networks is proposed. An unknown nonlinear single-input single-output plant is identified using a multilayer neural networks. A linear controller is designed fer the linear approximation model obtained by linearinzing the identification model. The identification model is also used as a plant emulator to obtain the prediction error. Deficient servo performance due to controlling nonlinear plant with only linear controller is mended by adjusting the linear controller output using the prediction output and the parameters of the identification model. An optimal preview controller is adopted as the linear controller by reason of having good servo performance lowering the peak of control input. Validity of proposed method is illustrated through a numerical simulation.

  • This paper presents a programmable single-phase ac power source that provides a sinusoidal output voltage with an adjustable output amplitude and frequency over a wide range as well as an arbitrary waveform. The ac power source under consideration have a linear power amplifier. The desired output values can be programmed with a personal computer. The power source operates at 220[V]/60[Hz] mains and the output voltage is isolated from the input circuit. The system consists mainly of a power converter to generate and amplify the waveform signal, a controller to control the desired output signal and measure the output parameters, and a control program to set the desired output and display the values. The prototype ac power source was constructed and tested with the results demonstrating a good performance.

  • The non-periodic angular accelerations of engine are the major cause of gear rattle. This gear rattle is based on the existence of a backlash between the drive gear of input shaft and the free gear of output shaft in the gearbox. Especially, the neutral gear rattle have a very bad effect on the ride quality. Test-rig was constructed in order to evaluate the parameter influence upon the neutral gear rattle. Also, each different 4 type torsional characteristic of clutch was manufactured. Experimental conditions are the use of each different 4 type torsional characteristic of clutch and oil temperature variation in gearbox. In case of the same stiffiness of pre-damper type clutch at idling, the clutch of large hysteresis showed dam- ping effects at the 2nd input gear and the 2nd output gear. Also, the main-damper type clutch was shown to large resonance phenomenon at the 2nd input gear. Accordingly, main-damper type clutch was unapp- roriate at idling.

  • This study is to optimize the condition of pulse parameters using the response surface method in micro pulse TIG welding of pleated type metallic filter. The input parameters used were pulse current, base current, pulse duty, frequency and welding speed and the hydraulic pressure was used as the output parameter. The central composite design was designed using second order regression model, As the results, the optimal welding condition to manufacture the pleated type metallic filter was obtained.

  • This paper deals with a stochastic stabilization of observer-based output-feedback control Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy system with Markovian input delay. The finite Markovian process is adopted to model the input delay of the overall control system. It is assumed that the zero and hold devices are used for control input. The continuous-time T-S fuzzy system with the Markovian input delay is discretized for easy handling delay, accordingly, the discretized T-S fuzzy system is represented by a discrete-time T-S fuzzy system with jumping parameters. The stochastic stabilizability of the jump T-S fuzzy system is derived and formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The usefulness of the proposed algorithm is also certificated by simulation of 2 degree of freedom helicopter model.

  • A Practical application of self-tuning fuzzy controller to a multi-input multi-output complex system of a vehicle engine is investigated. The ovjective is to design a controller to improve the transient performance in torque and RPM mode changes. For the performance improvement in the multivariable comples system, the self-tuning function of internal parameters is essential and practical. The measured output variables using different control schemes are compared the advanteges of the self-tuning fuzzy logic controller are better output performances and the effectiveness in the controller design using many parameters.
