The effects of packing materials in the anaerobic reactor and inorganic chemicals in the synthetic wastewater on the anaerobic treatment during the start up period were investigated using anaeroic filter process. The Ringlace and Honeycomb tube as packing materials were used in the anaerobic reactors. The Ca$^{2+}$ and Fe$^{2+}$ ion concentration as inorganic chemicals contained higher 40 times and 100 times as compared to the control synthetic wastewater, respectively. A start up period 104 and 150 days were necessary to achieve loading rate of 0.37 and 0.74 kg-Toc/m$^3$.d in the anaerobic filter process packed by Ringlace and Honeycomb tube, respectively. The loading rates of the reactor using the synthetic wastewater containing Ca$^{2+}$ (40 times) could be increased faster than in the reactors using the synthetic wastewater containing Fe$^{2+}$ ion (100 times) and control synthetic wastewater. The results of XMA analysis that a lot of the Ca$^{2+}$ ion on the surface of the anaerobic sludge in the anaerobic reactor packed by Ringlace which were fed supplied with synthetic wastewater containing Ca$^{2+}$ ion (40 times) observed as compared to the reactors supplied with control synthetic wastewater and containing Fe$^{2+}$ ion (100 times).
Recently, high growth potential of barrier materials industry including high performance packing materials was expected with increasing the national income and well-being culture. As high barrier materials, polymer nanocomposites have considerable attractions due to their excellent physical properties compared to conventional composite materials. In general, polymer nanocomposites were consisted of polymer matrix and inorganic fillers, such as layered silicate, carbon nanotubes, and metal- or inorganic nanoparticles. Among these materials, layered silicate which was called as the clay was usually used as nano-fillers because of naturally abundant and most economical and structural properties. Clay-reinforced polymer nanocomposites have various advantages, such as high strength, flammability, gas barrier property, abrasion resistance, and low shrinkage and used for automotive and packing materials. Therefore, in this paper, we focused on the need of gas barrier materials and materials-related technologies.
Four inorganic packing materials (zeocarbon, porous celite, porous glass, zeolite) and a earthworm cast were compared with regard to the removal of ammonia in a biofilter inoculated with earthworm cast. Physical adsorption of ammonia on packing materials were negligible except zeocarbon (23.5 g-$NH_3$/kg), and cell immobilization capacity have similar values irrespective of packing materials. Pressure drops of the packed bed were in order of earthworm cast zeocarbon zeolite porous glass porous. The maximum elimination capacity ($g-Nkg^{-1}$$d^{-1}$ ) of ammonia, which were based on a unit volume of packing material, were in order of zeocarbon (526) earthworm cast (220) porous celite (93) > zeolite (68) > porous glass (53). By using kinetic analysis, the maximum removal rates ($V_{m}$ ) and the saturation constant ($K_{s}$ ) for ammonia were determined, and zeocarbon showed superior performance among the five materials.

A study was made to determine the effect of plastic pigment on the coating structure and printability of coated paper. Three basic plastic pigments were investigated such as solid-bead type of plastic pigment, binder type of plastic pigment and hollow type of plastic pigment. In the systems investigated, it was observed that particle shape and structure of plastic pigment had influenced on the rheology of coating color, the state of packing, and the properties of coated paper. The materials investigated were restricted to plastic pigments commonly uesd in paper coating formualtion. Inorganic pigments used in this research were kaolin clay which is platelets and calcium carbonate which is rhombic. Three kinds of plastic pigments were blended in the color made up with two inorganic pigments, respectively. The combination of pigments were carried out (1) to determined the effect of paticle structure of plastic pigment on the state of dispersion of coating color, (2) to observe the effect of temperature of calender on the property of coated paper prepared with plastic pigment. The data indicated that binder and hollow type of plastic pigment had the best results on improving the properties of coated paper such as paper gloss, opacity and air permeability ect. and solid-bead type of plastic pigment in the next place.
Simultaneous removal of ternary gases of $NH_3$, $H_2S$ and toluene in a contaminated air stream was investigated over 180 days in a biofilter. A commercially available inorganic/polymeric composite chip with a large void volume (bed porosity > 0.80) was used as a microbial support. Multiple microorganisms including Nitrosomonas and Nitrobactor for nitrogen removal, Thiobacillus thioparus (ATCC 23645) for $H_2S$ removal and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 15692), Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 17484) and Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 23973) for toluene removal were used simultaneously. The empty bed residence time (EBRT) ranged from 60 - 120 seconds and the inlet feed concentration was $0.0325\;g/m^3-0.0651\;g/m^3$ for $NH_3$, $0.0636\;g/m^3-0.141\;g/m^3$ for $H_2S$, and $0.0918\;g/m^3-0.383\;g/m^3$ for toluene, respectively. The observed removal efficiency was 2% - 98% for $NH_3$, 2% - 100% for $H^2S$, and 2% - 80% for toluene, respectively. Maximum elimination capacity was about $2.7\;g/m^3$/hr for $NH_3$, > $6.4\;g/m^3$/hr for $H_2S$ and $4.0\;g/m^3$/hr for toluene, respectively. The inorganic/polymeric composite carrier required 40 - 80 days of wetting time for biofilm formation due to the hydrophobic nature of the carrier. Once the surface of the carrier was completely wetted, the microbial activity became stable. During the long-term operation, pressure drop was negligible because the void volume of the carrier was two times higher than the conventional packing materials.

It has been a long time since organic solar cells were expected as a low-cost energy-conversion device. Although practical use of them has not been achieved, technological progress continues. Morphology of the materials, organic/inorganic interface, metal cathodes, molecular packing and structural properties of the donor and acceptor layers are essential for photovoltaic response. We have fabricated solar cell devices based on zinc-phthalocyanine(ZnPc) as donor(D) and fullerene$(C_60)$ as electron acceptor(A) with doped charge transport layers, and BCP and $Alq_3$ as an exciton blocking layer(EBL). We have measured the photovoltaic characteristics of the solar cell devices using the Xe lamp as a light source. We were use of $Alq_3$ layer leads to external power conversion efficiency was $2.65\%$ at illumination intensity $100\;mW/cm^2$. Also we confirmed the optimum thickness ratio of the DA hetero-junction is about 1:2.

In this study, we used the hybrid module that was composed of granular activated carbons (GAC) packing between module inside and outside of tubular ceramic microfiltration membrane for advanced drinking water treatment. Instead of natural organic matters (NOM) and fine inorganic particles in natural water source, modified solution was prepared with humic acid and kaolin. $N_2$-back-flushing of 10 sec was performed per every period of 10 min to minimize membrane fouling and to improve permeate flux (J). As a result, resistance of membrane fouling ($R_f$) decreased and J increased as concentration of humic acid changed from 10 mg/L to 2 mg/L step by step, and finally the highest total permeate volume ($V_T$) could be obtained at 2 mg/L. Then, treatment efficiencies of turbidity and $UV_{254}$ absorbance were excellent above 99.36% and 97.19%, respectively, but that of $UV_{254}$ absorbance for only microfiltration without GAC at 10 mg/L of humic acid was decreased a little as 90.84%.
