  • Iron-based amorphous powder attracts increasing attention because of its excellent soft magnetic properties and low iron loss at high frequencies. The development of an insulating layer on the surface of the amorphous soft magnetic powder is important for minimizing the eddy current loss and enhancing the energy efficiency of high-frequency devices by further increasing the electrical resistivity of the cores. In this study, a hybrid insulating coating layer is investigated to compensate for the limitations of monolithic organic or inorganic coating layers. Fe2O3 nanoparticles are added to the flexible silicon-based epoxy layer to prevent magnetic dilution; in addition TiO2 nanoparticles are added to enhance the mechanical durability of the coating layer. In the hybrid coating layer with optimal composition, the decrease in magnetic permeability and saturation magnetization is suppressed.

  • The present study was to develop a dry PFB method similar to the existing gypsum board construction method in order to apply the existing wet PFB method that uses fire.resistant adhesive. It was found that the existing wet method can produce concrete compressive strength of 80MPa and fire resistance of 3 hours with 30mm PF boards. The goal of development in this study was fire resistance of 3 hours through dry construction of 15mm fire resistant boards. The results of fire resistance test showed an increase in thermal durability and thermal strain. It is believed that inorganic fiber reduces thermal strain, and lowers heat insulation performance by 15% or less. This suggests that heat insulation performance was improved by the change in the inner composition of PF board resulting from the adjustment of Al:Si mol ratio, high temperature molding, and dry curing. According to the results of fire resistance test, when the dry PF method was applied, the temperature of the main reinforcing bar was 116$^\circ$C in 15mm, 103.8$^\circ$C in 20mm, and 94$^\circ$C in 25mm, and these results satisfied the current standards for fire resistance control presented by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. When a 3 hour fire resistance test was performed and the external properties of the specimen were examined, the outermost gypsum board hardly remained and internal PF board maintained its form without thermal strain.

  • For various applications of liquid crystal displays (LCDs), the uniform alignment of liquid crystal (LC) molecules on treated surfaces is significantly important. Generally, a rubbing method has been widely used to align the LC molecules on polyimide (PI) surfaces. Rubbed PI surfaces have suitable characteristics, such as uniform alignment. However, the rubbing method has some drawbacks, such as the generation of electrostatic charges and the creation of contaminating particles. Thus, we strongly recommend a non contact alignment technique for future generations of large high-resolution LCDs. Most recently, the LC aligning capabilities achieved by ultraviolet and ion-beam exposures which are non contact methods, on diamond-like carbon (DLC) inorganic thin film layers have been successfully studied because DLC thin films have a high mechanical hardness, a high electrical resistivity, optical transparency, and chemical inertness. In addition, nitrogen-doped DLC (NDLC) thin films exhibit properties similar to those of the DLC thin films and a higher thermal stability than the DLC thin films because C:N bonding in the NDLC thin filmsis stronger against thermal stress than C:H bonding in the DLC thin films. Our research group has already studied the NDLC thin films by an ion-beam alignment method. The $SiN_x$ thin films deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition are widely used as an insulation layer for a thin film transistor, which has characteristics similar to those of DLC inorganic thin films. Therefore, in this paper, we report on LC alignment effects and pretilt angle generation on a $SiN_x$, thin film treated by ion-beam irradiation for various N ratios

  • In this study, water glass was applied as a coating material to a rigid polyurethane foam to improve the flame-retardant properties of the foam. The heat release rate of the cone calorimeter of the urethane foam, in which the inorganic water-glass coating layer was applied, decreased rapidly. The water glass coated on the polyurethane surface formed a glassy foam by foaming with water, which did not escape during the vitrification reaction when the foam or glass was heated. The glassy foam formed on the polyurethane foam became a fire-resistant insulation layer that inhibited the combustion of the polyurethane foam for more than 10 min. Water glass was found to improve the flame-retardant properties of the rigid polyurethane foam.

  • The preparation of porous lightweight materials as well as the measurement of physical properties has been performed by using SSA(sewage sludge ash) as the raw material. For this aim, two types of lightweight filler, that is, perlite and silica sphere were employed respectively and bentonite was also used as an inorganic binder. The properties of lightweight specimen calcined at 1,000 were measured in terms of density, compressive strength, thermal conductivity and sound absorption to examine the effect of material composition as well as the preparation condition on the properties of lightweight material. As a result, the density of specimen prepared with perlite was ranged from 1.23 to $1.37g/cm^3$ and the compressive strength was ranged from 242.3 to $370.5kg/cm^2$. In case of specimen prepared with silica sphere, it was found that the compressive strength was less than $100kg/cm^2$ even though density was lower than that of specimen with perlite. As far as the thermal conductivity of specimen was concerned, it was ranged from 0.3 to $0.5W/m^{\circ}K$ depending on material composition so that the insulation effect was superior to conventional concrete.

  • Production process of the flexible ceramic foamed body through the complexation with the fiberous sepiolite and expanded pearlite was researched. The processing of fibrillation of the inorganic mineral fiber sepiolite is the most important whole processing for manufacturing of the ceramic foamed body consisting of the expanded perlite and sepiolite. The fibrous sepiolite and expanded pearlite are blended and becomes the slurry phase. And this slurry phase is converted to a massive foamed body through the low temperature heat treatment process less than $300^{\circ}C$. The heat-treatment process of the slurry phase composite has to be designed to include the evaporation step of the moisture remaining among the slurry composition, foaming step by the decomposition of the foaming agent, and resolution removal step of the organic material which was added in the composite remained after the foaming step. The heat treatment process should be considered as significant factors in design of total process. As to the condition of heat treatment process and foaming agent, there was the a correlation. An organic type foaming agent like DSS (dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinte) was effective in foaming of the slurry compound consisting of the expanded perlite and sepiolite fiber.

  • Sol-gel binder was prepared by hydrolysis and condensation reaction using boehmite sol and methyltrimethoxysilane as a function of aging-time. The coating slurry was composed of a plate-shape alumina in the sol-gel binder for the EPD process, in which particles dispersed in the slurry were deposited on the electrode under an electric field due to the surface charge. We studied the effects of three parameters: the content of boehmite, the aging time, and the applied voltage, on the physical, thermal, and electrical properties of the hybrid composite films by EPD. The amount of boehmite was 10 ~ 20 wt% and the aging time was 0.5 ~ 72, with a fixed amount of plate-shape alumina of 10 wt%. The condition of applied voltage was 5 ~ 30 V with a distance of 2 cm between the electrode during the EPD process. We confirmed that a structure of hybrid composite films of well-ordered plate alumina was deposited on the substrate when the film was prepared using a sol-gel binder composed of 15 wt% boehmite with 1 hr aging time and EPD at 10 V. The process shows a weight loss of 7% at $500^{\circ}C$ in TGA and a breakdown voltage of 8 kV at $87{\mu}m$.

  • With the development of cities, the density of the population is continuously increasing as buildings become larger and more high-rise, but since the Haeundae residential complex fire in Busan in 2010, there has been a growing need to meet the fire protection performance of buildings as large-scale fires continue to occur every year. On the other hand, fire doors, which are one of the fire protection performance of buildings, have been judged unqualified in 82% of cases when fire doors constructed on the actual site were inspected after completion. The reason for this is that paper honeycomb and glasswool, which are used as core materials for fire doors, absorb moisture, reducing thermal insulation performance, and sagging due to increased weight, leading to performance degradation due to warping in empty spaces. To overcome these problems, research is underway to apply lightweight aerated concrete, an inorganic material, as a core material. Therefore, in order to select a blowing agent that produces stable bubbles prior to the production of lightweight bubble concrete for application as a fire door inner core, this study examined the physical performance according to the type of blowing agent and dilution concentration, and the following conclusions were drawn. Compared to vegetable bubbles and independent bubbles, synthetic bubbles have 3~8% higher thermal conductivity than independent bubbles, but 3~6% lower slurry density than vegetable bubbles, and 2~13% higher compressive strength, which is thought to be an improvement of synthetic bubbles.
