  • The aim of this paper is to investigate how the public procurement policy exerts an effect upon the technology innovation of the firm and to make alternative proposals how to reinforce the effect. Although the pubic procurement process based on its monopsonic idiosyncrasy implies the means to lead the firms' supply function, the present system has contributed a little to accelerate the technology innovation. In fact, the system is lacking of the evaluation capability referring to the technological computer among the bidding films. So as to reinforce the function of technology innovation of the public procurement policy, it is necessary to improve the procurement institutions, in particular bidding and contract system. Finally, the paper propose, on the on hand, to enlarge the application range of the total bidding system in order to apply more strictly the technology evaluation standards on bidding, and on the other hand, to multiply the competitive proposal and the incentive contract type.

Impact of Supply Chain Innovation and Risk Management Capabilities on Competitive Advantage at Steel Trading Companies in Vietnam

  • Purpose: The current research investigates the beneficial impacts of supply chain innovation and risk management on the competitive advantage of organizations, based on the resource-based theory (RBT) framework. Research Design, Data, and Methodology: 14 survey items were included in the study's questionnaire, utilizing a random sampling technique to gather data from 239 leaders and managers employed by various steel trading firms in Vietnam. In order to validate the data and examine relationships, the collected data is analyzed using structural equation modeling, confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability analysis via SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0 software. A fictitious system has been suggested. Results: According to the findings, the most positive influence on competitive advantage is supply chain innovation, followed by risk management capability, having the second greatest positive influence. Conclusions: Some conclusions are drawn based on the research's findings in order to assist managers in realizing the significance and necessity of giving attention to supply chain innovation and improving risk management capabilities, both of which are essential components for achieving the competitive advantage of an organization.

  • With rapid change and intensive competition in the global economy, the capability to capture, absorb, develop, and transfer new knowledge is a key organizational success factor. Through effective learning, companies are more likely to develop the innovation, quality, and responsiveness essential to meet the growing expectations of customers and the disruptive threats of competitors and new technologies. In the paper the role of technological innovation and its relationship to organizational learning in managing technology-based new products are examined. Several factors which can influence the rate and effectiveness of organizational learning are identified. Barriers to learning also are discussed. Finally, several managerial implications and propositions for future research on learning and technological innovation are advanced.

An Empirical Study on the Relationship between the Capabilities and Sales Growth of Research-based Spin-off Companies (연구소기업의 역량과 매출성장 간의 관계에 관한 실증연구)

  • This study aims to analyze research-based spin-off companies, which are established in Innopolis to promote the commercialization of R&D outputs of public institutions. We analyzed 175 technology-based start-ups, which were founded before 2016, to examine how the companies' capabilities affect the sales growth rate. The results show that technological capability and entrepreneurial capability have positive relations with sales growth, while network capability and finance capability do not have significant associations. In addition, R&D intensity (R&D expenditure per employee) has moderating effects on the association between firm capabilities and sales growth rate since it strengthens the effect of technological capability and entrepreneurial capability but weakens the influence of network capability. This study contributes to widening the understanding of the importance of capabilities of research-based spin-off companies and their performance, and differs from most previous literature since it uses objective and quantitative data. It further suggests policy implications that the enhancement of technological and entrepreneurial capability are important for the stable growth of technology-based startups in the early stage.

Improving the Competitiveness of Exporting Enterprises: A Case of Kien Giang Province in Vietnam

  • Economic integration is an indispensable trend in all countries. However, besides the advantages that economic integration brings, there are also disadvantages, such as competition between businesses among states in export activities. Vietnam is a developing country with many advantages, especially, the seafood exporting industry. However, with competitive pressure as well as strategic constraints, Vietnamese seafood exporters still face many difficulties. Therefore, the case study of the Kien Giang province of Vietnam is used to analyze the factors affecting the competitiveness of seafood exporting enterprises. The study applied quantitative research methods with a survey of 350 seafood exporting enterprises in Kien Giang province to achieve the research objectives. The research results identified eleven key factors affecting the competitiveness of seafood exporting enterprises, including (1) vision and strategy of leader; (2) human resources management capability; (3) organization capability; (4) customer-responsive marketing capability; (5) relationship management capability; (6) technical capability; (7) competitors reaction capability; (8) business environment adoption capability; (9) financial capability; (10) products and services innovation capability; and (11) branding management. The research results provided the basis to propose some managerial implications to improve the competitiveness of exporting enterprises in the context of the global economic integration.

  • This research explores how the success of smart factory adoption is influenced by firm's dynamic capability. This research describes the underlying processes on how organizations manipulate or adapt organizational elements harmoniously to implement smart factory successfully. Although understanding of these processes is essential to many researchers and practitioners in the field, the information system research literature contains very few examples of this type. The research is conducted in the following sequence: first, the concept of dynamic capability is presented followed by research methodology; and then the analyses of case data are presented followed by discussions and future directions. The results of this research show that the firms with higher dynamic capability adopted smart factory more easily through alignment of various organizational elements.

  • In this study, diagnostic model was proposed to evaluate and rate the innovation capability of SMEs and suggest alternatives to insufficient capabilities and optimum supporting programs for SMEs from literature survey, GIC model was composed based on KIS value and ASTI(Associate of Science and Technology information) SMEs database, thus, sample deviation can be caused and securing accurate data is insufficient. To compose model by analyzing characteristics of companies accurately, various companies' data for long period will be required.

Cases Studies on Total Productive Management and Competitive Advantages

  • The purpose of business strategy is to achieve competitive advantages which includes higher efficiency, better quality, more innovation and faster customer response. In other words, The business strategy is to build unique capability of lower cost and/or differentiation. In production aspect, unique capability means better production power with better performance at 3M(Man, Machine, Material) of input and PQCDSM (Product, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Moral) from output. The Total Productive management (TPM), a series of improvement activities focused on reduction of equipment loss, is a tool to establish business competitive advantages. In this paper, several domestic companies who won the Japan TPM Award have been studied. It is found that there is a strong cause-effect relationship between TPM and competitive advantages because. 1. TPM can change employees mindset effectively. 2. TPM can upgrade employees capabilities. 3. TPM can lead to excellent productivity.

  • The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in 2020, had a significant impact on the economy and business activities worldwide. Large companies, as well as small businesses were affected, many of them had to scale down or divert their businesses, and some even had to stop. This extraordinary situation requires business people to make innovations and adjustments to survive during a pandemic. Entering the digital era, business players are helped by the ease of internet access, which will make it easier for SME players to get data from their consumers. Business actors can use this data to innovate and create new creations to improve business performance during this pandemic. This research aims to identify how small and medium enterprises can take advantage of Big Data to improve marketing performance through innovation and value creation. The research methodology used the in this research is quantitative method. The respondents are SME producers of food and beverage, with a total of 150 respondents. The results in the study indicate that all the proposed hypotheses are accepted. The most significant influence is found on the relationship of Big Data to value creation. The lowest effect was obtained from the relationship between Big Data and marketing performance through the mediation variable and innovation capability.

  • Over the past 40 years, Korea's defense industry has been deepening into a low-efficiency industrial structure as the government directly controls prices, quantities, and costs. By implementing the Defense Industry Building Act in 2021, the government is creating a healthy ecosystem for the defense industry and strengthening its global competitiveness. In this study, based on KPC's Productivity Management System (PMS), a diagnostic model of defense companies implemented since 2013, the on-site diagnosis was performed from 4 to 28 days depending on the size of the company data was collected based on the results. The causal relationship was analyzed through structural equation model path analysis for the effect of innovation capability on productivity performance. As a result, it suggests that defense materials suppliers should focus on which core processes to innovate and strengthen and improve their innovation capabilities.
