  • This paper aims to analysis sectoral innovation patterns of technological innovation and localized knowledge spillover in Korean manufacturing sector. Sectoral innovation system approach proposed that the specific pattern of innovative activity and knowledge spillover in an industry can be explained as the outcome of different technological regimes. Technological regime is defined by the particular combination of technological opportunities, appropriability of innovations, cumulativeness of technical advances and properties of the knowledge base. Based on a sample of 2,882 firms in manufacturing sector, this paper provides empirical estimates of the relationships between firm's product innovation and localized knowledge spillover. Results of the analysis provide considerable support to the hypothesis that firm's product innovation and localized knowledge spillover are related to the nature of the underlying technological regime. In the industry based on the tacit and specific knowledge, firm's product innovation is positively related to the localized knowledge spillover. This paper also shows that high stability in the ranking of innovators are related to high degrees of cumulativeness and appropriability.

  • This study aimed to empirically analyze the factors influencing the career search intention of college students. The research model was derived based on the Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), considering the unique characteristics of university students. Self-efficacy and outcome expectations were investigated as independent variables, while mastery experience, verbal persuasion, vicarious learning, and positive emotions were considered as antecedent variables. A survey was conducted among college students in the metropolitan area, resulting in 217 valid responses for analysis. Empirical analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling with AMOS 24. The findings revealed that mastery experience, vicarious learning, and positive emotions had a significant positive effect on self-efficacy. Furthermore, verbal persuasion and positive emotions significantly influenced outcome expectations. However, the impact of verbal persuasion on self-efficacy was not found to be significant, and the relationship between mastery experience, vicarious learning, and outcome expectations was not examined. Both self-efficacy and outcome expectations were found to have a significant positive effect on career search intention, with outcome expectations exhibiting a stronger influence. The empirical results contribute to the understanding of college students' career exploration and provide implications for academic and practical contexts.

  • Government-sponsored Research Institutes(GRIs) have played a great role to the development of Korea Science and Technology(S&T) However, GRIs are facing with challenges of change for their role and function, appearing emerging technology, accelerating technological innovation and increasing research capabilities of other organizations(i.g., universities and firms). We will argue that GRIs should increase competitiveness of their focused research discipline in order to produce a superior outcome and in charge of distinguished role compared with other organizations. This paper aims to suggest a alternative which could increase competitiveness of GRIs's focused research discipline. As a case, in this paper, we analyzed Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology(KRIBB) which is a part of GRIs in Korea.

  • Current technology innovation or new product development project is composed of various process elements that conduct researches on fundamental technologies. However, with the effects of PERT and CPM, the greater part of the existing project management researches have only focused on the resource allocation and scheduling. But in the multi-project environment, priorities between technology elements need to be considered. Furthermore, a disagreement of opinion between project managers and researchers should be considered. In this study, technology element priority was determined using modified QFD and Taguchi method. Outcome of each method was compared to analyze the difference between project managers and researchers. As a result, QFD method showed relatively high level of consistency between project managers and researchers.

  • We define $21^{st}$ century as an amalgamation of globalization and localization, or Glocalization. Additionally, due to the increasing supply of smart phones and wide usage of social networking services, the ability to utilize such global and regional information has increased a coperation's competitiveness in its market, and even the business models have evolved from the conventional "production and distribution" to E-commerce, through which either a direct or a non-direct transaction is possible. My hypothesis is that the ability to adapt to this trend is possible through transfer of learning, and consequently, this will have an impact on company's performance. Thus, this thesis analyzes the mid- to the long-term impact of such ability and environmental factors on the performance and technology innovation of Korean companies in China. Ultimately, this study intends to engender a basic foundation for a corporation's management strategy in China. Finally this research focuses on those Korean companies in China only and on the proof of influential factors' impact on technological innovation and technological innovation's impact on those corporations' future performances. Section I is an abstract and section II, the case examines the uniqueness and current status of Korean companies in China identifies the concept and the definition of influential factors such as education-orientation, technological innovation, and performance, and then scrutinizes each factors through a closer look at their past researches. Section III explains the thesis model, the survey's method and target, the thesis, variable factors, the content, and the method of analysis. In section IV, the thesis is proved based on the outcome of the survey. The result in Section V highlights the high comprehension of technological innovation: both education-orientation and technological innovation prove to have a positive (+) correlation with the performance. The vision on education orientation proves to have a positive (+) influence on technological innovation. The vision on education-orientation and technological innovation prove to have a positive (+) influence individually on company's performance.

  • During the last year, public expenditures which provided the central and local governments for boosting research and development (R&D) activities of the private sector has been constantly increasing. 17 percent of public total R&D expenditure supported to private sector and 9 percent of R&D expenditure in service sector were public R&D funding. However, studies evaluating the impact of public R&D subsidies are quite few. The aim of this study empirically investigate the average effects of public R&D subsidies on the innovation activities in private sector, specifically those engaged in Korean service firms by using Propensity Score Matching(PSM) method. The effect of R&D subsidies is derived from either qualitative and quantitative outcomes of innovation activities, which is defined as the difference between innovation outcome of the treatment group (receiving R&D subsidies) and that of the control group (non receiving R&D subsidies) after the matching method. As a result of empirical analysis, government R&D grants stimulate only firm-first innovation outcomes in service firms. It is represent that public R&D subsidies cannot be contributed to level of national innovation and the total amount of national innovation activities but can enhance firm competitiveness from increasing firm-first innovation activities.

  • This paper aims to measure and analyze R&D productivities and efficiencies of 17 major OECD countries including Korea over the 1984-2008 period by using the Malmquist Productivity Index and Data Envelopment Analysis, classifying R&D performance into an output and outcome aspects. It also searches the Korea's current status and characteristics in each R&D stage to enhance Total Factor Productivity (TFP) compared with other developed countries. Our major findings are the followings: (i) Korea's productivity index of R&D input vis-a-vis R&D output is very high (13.39% annual growth rate) compared with those of major advanced countries, whereas the annual average of efficiency index is very low (0.33), i.e. Korea's technical efficiency index has risen to 0.83 at the last time series started at 0.10 point and come up to the level of major advanced countries. (ii) the Korea's productivity index of R&D output vis-a-vis R&D outcome is very low (14.02% annual reduction rate) compared with those of major advanced countries, whereas the annual average of efficiency index is very high (0.22), i.e. Korea's integrated frontier technical efficiency index has dropped to 0.057 at the last time series started at 1.00 point and coming up to the level of major advanced countries. (iii) The productivity of R&D input vis-a-vis R&D outcome is positively correlated with that of R&D output vis-a-vis R&D outcome and the growth of R&D input factors. In a nutshell, it implicates that the effort to take advantage of R&D outputs, namely establishing the diffusion and commercialization system of technical knowledge to the level of developed countries, should be strengthened over that on the growth of R&D investment and output for enhancing R&D productivity and efficiency in Korea.

  • This study aims to suggest an empirical approach for improving the reliability of the valuation method for the technology developed at universities by using the recent data of university technology transfer. The influencing factors, the internal capabilities of an university and the characteristics of technology area, on the outcome of university technology transfer were investigated for this study. The analysis shows that the technology area distribution of the outcome of technology transfer of each university can be classified into two type: IT and NT area oriented type, and BT and other area oriented type. The analysis also shows that the type of technology area distribution can act as a moderator in the positive relationship between each independent variables, the number of patent applications and the number of technology commercialization staff, and the outcome of technology transfer. Considering that the capability of technology development and that of technology spread are related directly or indirectly to all the technology valuation process, the analysis results imply that the reliability of the valuation method for university technology might be improved by using factors of the internal capabilities of an university and that of the characteristics of technology area.
