This study deals with residual stress prediction and hardness evaluation within cross ball grooved inner race fabricated by cold upsetting process consisted of upsetting and ejection steps. A raw workpiece material of AISI 5120H (SCr420H) is first spheroidized and annealed, then phosphophyllite coated to form solid lubricant layer on its outer surface. To investigate influences of the heat treatment, uni-axial compression tests and Vickers micro-hardness measurements are conducted. Three-dimensional elasto-plastic FE simulations on the upsetting step and the ejection one are performed to visualize the residual stress and the ductile (plastic deformation) damage. External feature of the fabricated inner race is fully captured by using an optical 3D scanner, and the micro-hardness is measured on internal cross-sections. Consequently, the dimensional compatibility between the simulated inner race and the fabricated one is ensured with a difference of under 0.243mm that satisfied permissible error range of ±0.50mm on the grooved surface, and the predicted residual stress is verified to have similar distribution tendency with the measured Vickers micro-hardness.
The design for cold extrusion dies is very important, because the die insert is subjected to very high radial and hoop stresses. The design of cold extrusion dies has many constrained conditions. In this paper, the used assumptions are such that the yield strength of each ring is selected according to the allowable tensile or compressive hoop stress in each ring and the maximum allowable inner pressure, when yielding occurs in one ring of the dies, is obtained by the proposed equation. In order to obtain design variables, such as diameter ratios and interferences, using the maximum inner pressure, the flexible tolerance method was used for shrink-fitted thick-walled cylinders. ANSYS APDL was used to perform the repeated analysis of deformation of the dies due to the variation of the design variables. The response surface methodology is utilized to analyze the relationship between the design variables and the maximum radial displacement of the die insert during extrusion. From the results, it is found that outer diameter of the die insert has the largest effect on the minimization of maximum radial displacement at the inner surface of the dies.
Effect of Convex Surface Curvature on the Onset of Nucleate Boiling of Subcooled Fluid Flow in Vertical Concentric Annuli An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the effect of the transverse convex surface curvature of core tubes on heat transfer in concentric annular tubes. Water is used as the working fluid. Three annuli having a different radius of the inner cores, Ri=3.18mm, 6.35mm, and 12.70mm with a fixed ratio of Ri/Ro=0.5 are used over a range of the Reynolds number between about 40,000 and 80,000. The inner cores are made of smooth stainless steel tubes and heated electrically to provide constant heat fluxes throughout the whole length of each test section. Experimental result shows that heat flux values on the onset of nucleate boiling of the smaller inner diameter model is much higher than that of the larger size test model.

We report the effect of density of thin films on moisture adsorption and hydration of MgO thin film, usually used as a protective layer in AC-PDP After hydration, lots of hemispherical shaped clusters, $Mg(OH)_2$, formed on the surface of MgO thin films. However clusters formed on low-density thin films were bigger than those on high-density films. From ERD spectra, it seemed that the concentration of hydrogen was very high in the region 20 nm from the surface of MgO thin film. The low-density thin film had more hydrogen than high-density thin film. From simulation results of ERD and RBS it was found that hydration reaction also occurred in the inner part of the film. So diffusion of Mg atoms from the inner part of the film to the surface and $H_2O$ molecules from the surface to the inner part of the film is important. And because low density thin film has many short paths for diffusion of Mg atoms and $H_2O$ molecules, low-density thin film is more hydrated. So to suppress hydration of MgO thin films, high-density thin film is needed.
In order to investigate forced convection heat transfer due to the wind from the inner surface of a cavity receiver for a parabolic dish type solar energy collecting system, a two-dimensional rectangular cavity receiver is prepared and installed in a wind tunnel. The convection heat transfer coefficient of the inner surface of the receiver is dependent on the direction and the velocity of the wind. The attack angle of the cavity and the air velocity in the tunnel are controlled in a wide range so that the effects of the attack angle and the wind velocity on the heat transfer coefficient can be studied. The skirt is installed at the aperture of the cavity in order to reduce convective heat loss. The effects of the length and the installation angle of the skirt on convection heat transfer of the cavity are tested. It is found that convection heat loss can be significantly reduced by installing the skirt. Also, it is known that heat transfer from the cavity can be minimized if the angle of the skirt is $90^{\circ}$ to the outer surface of the cavity.
We report the formation of inner cladding modes in the optical fiber having an inner cladding structure. The inner cladding layer located between the core- and the cladding- layers of a conventional fiber might have, so called, inner cladding mode(s). The brief history of the inner cladding fiber and the spectral properties of the inner cladding mode are presented. By utilizing fiber gratings, the spectral properties of the inner cladding mode formed in Dispersion Compensating Fiber (DCF) are discussed. It was observed that one resonant peak of a long-period fiber grating was not sensitive to the variation on the cladding surface. With a fiber Bragg grating, a small group of unusual resonant Peaks was observed between the main Bragg Peak and the series of usual Peaks resulted from the mode coupling to counter-propagating cladding modes. Within the DCF by using fiber gratings, it is noted, at least one mode can be coupled to the inner cladding mode and a few outer cladding modes are severely affected by the inner cladding of the fiber.
We present a very simple and efficient bare-wafer inspection method using a knife-edge test. The wafer front surface and inner structures are inspected simultaneously. The wafer front surface is inspected visually using a knife-edge test while the inner structure is simultaneously inspected by a camera in the infrared region with a single white-light source. This paper presents a laboratory implementation of the test method with some experimental results.
We present a new simple and fast bare-wafer inspection method. This method inspects the wafer front surface and inner structures simultaneously. The wafer surface is inspected using a knife-edge test in visible while the inner structure is inspected by a looking-through camera in infrared, at the same time and with a single white-light source. This paper presents a laboratory implementation of the test method with some experimental results.
This paper suggests an efficient method for making the high resolution volexlized model from a polygonal surface object. A distinctive strength of the method is that a surface model, however complex one, can be transformed and formed an absolute voxelized solid model in a various resolution. It caused by producing a voxel by integrating the informations for the candidated voxels separately detected in each 3D-axial direction. This method reduces memory complexity by storing the information of voxels that is produced during the 2-phase volxelization(surface and inner voxelization) of a surface object in a binary file. For the computational efficiency, a parallel process using multi-threads is applied in the process of the inner voxelization, it also takes advantage of time complexity.
This study analyzes the problems, which the residential inner area has, and proposes systematic and gradual progressing improvement plan for the residential environment in the inner area. Also, planning instruction is proposed through the case study of parcel·jointed complex housing. This study can be concluded as below: (1) Improvement plans sub-divided into promoting districts and inducing districts of the residential inner area are proposed. (2) Necessity for construction of streets is proposed in order to compensate existing problems in sites. (3) Necessity of complex housings is proposed fur roadsides of household unit or small-sized annexation of parcel. (4) Collecting design examples and existing literatures, the planning guideline for jointed parcel complex housing is proposed based on the established relation with a whole surface of streets, formation and distribution of purposes and increased role of exterior space.
