Purpose: This study attempts to find out the optimum condition of the rotary cutter making pellet in the footwear outsole process. The pellets are used in the process of outsole rubber fabrication to reduce cycle time and save raw material. Methods: Computer simulations are used to analyze the maximum stress in the rotary cutter after designing a variety of cutter shapes. Taguchi method is used to identify the robust condition of the cutter. In $L_{18}$ orthogonal array, the control factors such as knife width, twisted angle, number of knives, diameter, knife depth and supported angle are considered and noise factors like assembly tolerance and amount of antifriction are allocated. Results: It is found that the most important factors to reduce maximum stress in the cutter are supported angle and diameter. Using Tacuchi's results, we can reduce 70% cycle time and 9% raw material compared to the traditional method using cutting die. Conclusion: When designing the rotary cutter, the best conditions are the diameter at its maximum allowable value and supported angle in the boundary of machine inner space.

We constructed a high-$T_c$ scanning SQUID microscope (SSM) operating in the liquid nitrogen. We used a washer-type YBCO SQUID with inner and outer dimensions of $12{\mu}m$ and $36{\mu}m$, respectively, which was grown on the $SrTiO^3$ bicrystal substrate. The sample, rather than SQUID, was scanned using two stepping motors. We also developed readout electronics, stepping motor controller, and the software for system control and data display. We took images of various samples using our SSM and found that the spatial resolution is about $40{\mu}m$ and noise level is lower than $10^{-7}T/{\surd}Hz$ at 100 Hz and higher at lower frequencies. The noise level was much higher than that of a typical SQUID due to the other coupling from the electric parts. We present a simple argument on the inductive coupling between the sample and the SQUID which should be under-stood for the proper interpretation of the obtained images. By comparing the measured data with the simulation results the gap between the SQUID and the sample is estimated to be $40{\mu}m$.

With the development of micro electronic circuits and optical equipment, the demand for developing smart munitions with the ability to autonomously search for and attack targets has increased. Since the electronic components within smart munitions are affected by high temperatures, pressure, and impulsive forces upon the combustion of gunpowder, stability and reliability need to be secured for them. Securing those stability and reliability requires soft recovery system which can decelerate smart munitions. A theoretical analysis of flow is performed for the secure recovery of bullets on the basis of Euler equation for compressible fluids. The inner pressure on a pressure tube, the speeds of bullets, and the deceleration of munitions are calculated theoretically. Theoretical results are compared with the data from the experiment with soft recovery system set up at the laboratory.

Eco-friendly material applied to building would be one of the materials which is must developed for global environmental conservation and reduction of carbon dioxide. For development of eco-friendly material, a cellulose sound-absorbing material has been developed with waste paper through adjustment of various mix proportions. The developed cellulose sound-absorbing material has been tested for its acoustic properties such as acoustic absorptivity and dynamic elastic modulus. The absorptivity was evaluated by developing six samples and using impedance tube and reverberation chamber. As a result of the evaluation, 0.64(NRC) was secured in absorptivity and $4.7MN/m^3$ was indicated in dynamic elastic modulus. Also, for practical use of developed sound-absorbing material as inner heartwood in drywall, comparison test of sound reduction index was performed with existing glass wool sound-absorbing material and constructed drywall of gybsum board. The results have shown 55dB(Rw) of sound reduction index in glass-wool wall and 46dB(Rw) in cellulose.

The Joint curing barns for flue-cured tobacco is a favorite with the tobacco farmers in Korea. However, most of farmer utilizing the joint curing barns indicated many problems such as high temperature and noise in the working room and a dry of cured leaves in the storage room. A structure of Joint curing barns has been modified to meet the needs of tobacco farmers. Compared with the unimproved joint curing barns, the improved one showed that the noise of workshop decreased about 7.7~10.8db, the amount of $CO_2$ decreased 40~50ppm in a working room and 80~100ppm in a machine room. Ammonia gas decreased 0.29mg/㎥ and the temperature of a working room dropped about 2.1~3.5$^{\circ}C$. The amount of air flow in a working room increased 23.2% at a site being 2m away from the entrance and 30.8% at a center. The inner temperature of the improved storage room showed that maximum temperature dropped about 3$^{\circ}C$, minimum temperature was high about 2$^{\circ}C$. The highest relative humidity was low 6%, the lowest one increased high about 10% when compared with the unimproved joint curing barns.

Vibration condition monitoring at low rotational speeds is still a challenge. Acoustic emission (AE) is the most used technique when dealing with low speed bearings. At low rotational speeds, the energy induced from surface contact between raceway and rolling elements is very weak and sometimes buried by interference frequencies. This kind of issue is difficult to solve using vibration monitoring. Therefore some researchers utilize artificial damage on inner race or outer race to simplify the case. This paper presents vibration signal analysis of low speed slewing bearings running at a low rotational speed of 15 rpm. The natural damage data from industrial practice is used. The fault frequencies of bearings are difficult to identify using a power spectrum. Therefore the relatively improved method of empirical mode decomposition (EMD), ensemble EMD (EEMD) is employed. The result is can detect the fault frequencies when the FFT fail to do it.

In this paper, possibility of controlling motion of a floating structure using a tuned liquid damper (TLD) is numerically investigated. A TLD is a tank partially filled with liquid. Sloshing motion of liquid inside a tank is known to suppress movement of the tank subject to external excitations at specific frequency. The effects of sloshing phenomena inside a rectangular floating body on its surge motion are investigated by varying external excitation frequency. First, a grid-refinement study is carried out to ensure validity of grid independent numerical solutions using present numerical techniques. Then, surge motion of the floating body subjected to external wave is simulated for five different excitation frequencies of which the center frequency equals to the natural frequency of internal liquid sloshing. The normalized amplitudes of surge motion of the target floating body are compared according to the excitation frequency, for the cases with and without water inside the floating body. It is shown that the motion of the floating body can be minimized by matching the sloshing natural frequency to the excitation frequency.

The paper presents the identification of dynamic property of a rotor system with a squeeze film damper (SFD) using magnetic fluid. An electromagnet Is installed in the inner damper of the SFD. The magnetic fluid is well known as a functional fluid. Its rheological property can be changed by controlling the applied current to the fluid and the fluid can be used as lubricant. Basically, the proposed SFD has the characteristics of a conventional SFD without an applied current, while the damping and stiffness Properties change according to the variation of the applied electric current. Therefore, when the applied current is changed, the whirling vibration of the rotor system can be effectively reduced. The clustering-based hybrid evolutionary algorithm (CHEA) is used to identify linear stiffness and damping coefficients of the SFD based on measured unbalance responses.
In this study, noise arresting effect of the noise control room from the transmission of surrounding noise was tested when the packing noise control rooms were set up in the test room in which the prerecorded noise from an engine room was reradiated at the same level as the original pressure. The inner space of control room A is $3.389m^3(1.19\times1.19\times2.14m)$ having walls furnished with plywood board 9mm in thickness and noise control room door$(60\times45cm) $ and illumination lamp are placed. In case of the control room B, noise absorption board(10mm fiber board which holds the corntype concavity with diameter of 5mm, depth 5mm, space 15mm) is adhered to the internal ceiling and styrol foam boards(20mm) to the walls. The other struction is same as the control room A. Type C is the same as B except wool board(Glass Fiber, 33mm) on the walls. Type D is same as type A except that the thickness of wall is 12mm and wood pyramid type cone$(5\times5\times13cm)$ is adhered to the ceiling ana walls(Fig. 1). When the recorded noise and vibrated noise were controlled in various levels. The noise pressure which passed through the control rooms was measured by sound level meter(Bruel & Kjar 2205, measuring range 37-140dB). In order to calculate the absorption rate in the control rooms the noise pressure was measured at different distances when the recorded noise pressure was radiated. The followings are the results obtained from the experiment. 1. When the noise pressure of the test room was 60dB, transmission rate of type A was $69.7\%$ and increased $3.3\%$ per 10dB. At the same condition, the rate was $53.9\%$ and increased $4.5\%$ per 10dB in type D. Type D was the most effective in noise arresting of the four and the effect was D,C,B and A in order(Fig.2). 2. When the oscillator sound and vessels noise were radiated in 1,000Hz, at one meter distance to the type A and D, the oscillator sound pressure were 77dB and 73dB, while the vessels noise pressure were 73.3dB and 66.2dB respectivley(Fig.3). 3. Refering to the influence of the frequency to the lower oscillator sound(1,000Hz) pressure, both type C and D were almost same at 140cm but type C was 0.3dB lower than type D at 20cm distance(Fig.4).
