A Study on the Exhaust Gas Recirculation in a MILD Combustion Furnace by Using the Coanda Nozzle Effect (MILD 연소로에서 Coanda 노즐 효과를 이용한 배기가스 재순환에 관한 연구)

  • A MILD (Moderate and Intense Low oxygen Dilution) combustion, which is effective in the reduction of NOx, is considerably affected by the recirculation flow rate of hot exhaust gas to the combustion furnace. The present study used the MILD combustor, which has coaxial cylindrical tube. The outside tube of the MILD combustor corresponds to the exhaust gas passage and the inner side tube is the furnace passage. A numerical analysis was accomplished to elucidate the characteristics of exhaust gas entrainment toward the inner furnace with the changes of coanda nozzle geometrical parameters, nozzle passage gap length, nozzle passage length, nozzle angle and expansion length. The optimal configuration of coanda nozzle for the best entrainment flow rate was gap length, 0.5 mm, expansion angle, 4o and expansion length, 146 mm. The nozzle passage length was irrelevant to the exhaust gas entrainement.

A Study on the Current State of Korean Military Winter Uniform Tops (한국 군용 방한복 상의에 대한 실태조사)

  • This study is designed to understand the problems of existing Korean male soldiers' winter uniform tops by researching its current state, and contribute to developing uniforms with improved size and motion appropriateness. Military bases were visited to research satisfaction of size and motion appropriateness of the current winter uniform tops. 193 soldiers were surveyed and interviewed, and the shape and fit of the standard sizes of the inner and outer layers of the current winter uniform were analyzed. Findings of this study are as follows. 1) Compared to the new combat uniforms that soldiers were wearing in their appropriate size (of the 44 sizes), there were many cases where the soldiers were not wearing winter uniform inner (of the 8 sizes) or outer (of the 18 sizes) layers in the correct size for their body. 2) A total of 37 combat uniform sizes appropriate for the body shapes were expected to be newly applied, and inside and outside layers of winter tops would be presented as sets of 14 different sizes in step with the new combat uniform sizes, instead of the existing 8 inside layer sizes and 18 outside layer sizes. 3) The inner and outer layer of the existing winter uniform tops had several problems with the shape and fit. First, the inner layer was shorter than the combat uniform. Its shoulder width was wide, but the sleeve length was short creating lack of coverage, and the angle connecting the sleeve and bodice was very small creating a high sleeve cap curve and narrow sleeve width that make motions difficult and cause discomfort. As for the outer layer, the hem moved up when soldiers bent over or adjusted the waist string so the top could not sufficiently cover, the shoulder width was wide and the sleeve length was short, requiring improvements.

Characteristics of Culm Anatomy and Dimensional Variation in Genus Phyllostachys Grown Damyang District, Korea (담양지방(潭陽地方) 왕대속(屬) 4종(種)의 조직(組織) 및 간내(稈內) 변이성(變異性))

  • This study was carried out to investigate the anatomical characteristics, the radial and axial variation of the cell dimension and bulk density for four bamboo species used as the major material of bamboo products in Korea; Phyllostachys(P.bambusoides, P.edulis, P.nigra var.henonis, and Pnigra). The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1) In the outer part of culm, the mophological difference of cell diameter and distribution were not acknowledged. However, gum-like substance was occurred In the epidermis, hypodermis, cortex and metaxylem vessel of P.nigra, while it was occured only in the metaxylem vessel of P.edulis. 2) The protoxylem vessel in the central zone of culm-wall could be in the two types; the first type consisted of 4-5 small cell pieces occurred in P.edulis and P.nigra var. henonis, the second type of 1-2 large cell pieces in P.bambusoides and P.nigra. And transition of cell diameter from the vascular bundle sheath to the ground tissue was gradually enlarged in P.nigra and P.edulis but abruptly in P.bambusoides and P.nigra var. henonis. 3) Thin-wall tyloses were well developed in the outer and central zone of culm-wall in four species. 4) Compared with the central part of culm-wall, the number of parenchyma cells and the amount of the vascular bundle sheaths per unit area were a few in the inner part. The inner part nearest to the pith cavity was consisted of thick-well parenchyma cell. 5) The dimensional variations of metaxylem vessel and parenchyma cell in the radial direction were decreased from the inner part to the epidermis in all species observed. 6) The fiber length was the maximum in the central zone and its diameter was increased from the inner part to the outer part. In the axial variation. fiber length was slightly increased from the base and then decresed slowly toward the top, and its diameter was reverse. 7) The axial variation of the bulk density was continuously increased from the base toward the top and its radial variation was rapidly increased from the inner part to the epidermis.

Numerical Study on the Design Safety of $9\%$ Nickel Based Inner Tank Bottom Plate in Terms of Hydrostatic Pressure (유체정압을 고려한 $9\%$ 니켈강재 내부탱크 바닥판의 설계 안정성에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • This paper presents the stress and deformation characteristics of $9\%$ nickel based inner tank bottom plate in full containment LNG storage tank. When a . maximum hydrostatic pressure applies the bottom plate of inner tank, the maximum = f stress and displacement distributions of the bottom plate have been analyzed as ' functions of inclined angle of the bottom plate, and the thickness and length of the annular plate between the shell plate and bottom one. The calculated results indicate that the taper of the bottom plate is recommended by 100${\~}$200 : 1 for $140,000m^3$ storage capacity of the inner tank. The results recommend that the thickness of the annular plate is around 20mm and the length is greater than 3m for a maximum hydrostatic pressure of $140,000m^3$ tank capacity.

Molecular Characterization and Expression Pattern of Gene IGFBP-5 in the Cashmere Goat (Capra hircus)

  • Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-5 (IGFBP-5) is one of the six members of IGFBP family, important for cell growth, apoptosis and other IGF-stimulated signaling pathways. In order to explore the significance of IGFBP-5 in cells of the Inner Mongolian Cashmere goat (Capra hircus), IGFBP-5 gene complementary DNA (cDNA) was amplified by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) from the animal's fetal fibroblasts and tissue-specific expression analysis was performed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. The gene is 816 base pairs (bp) in length and includes the complete open reading frame, encoding 271 amino acids (GenBank accession number JF720883). The full cDNA nucleotide sequence has a 99% identity with sheep, 98% with cattle and 95% with human. The amino acids sequence shares identity with 99%, 99% and 99%, respectively. The bioinformatics analysis showed that IGFBP-5 has an insulin growth factor-binding protein homologues (IB) domain and a thyroglobulin type-1 (TY) domain, four protein kinase C phosphorylation sites, five casein kinase II phosphorylation sites, three prenyl group binding sites (CaaX box). The IGFBP-5 gene was expressed in all the tested tissues including testis, brain, liver, lung, mammary gland, spleen, and kidney, suggesting that IGFBP-5 plays an important role in goat cells.

  • The inner pulley is an automobile component used as air conditioner clutch assembly. In cold forging of inner pulley, the design requirements are to keep the same height of the inner rib and outer one, and to make uniform the hardness distribution in the forged product. In industry, the design of forging processes is performed based on experience-oriented technology, that is, designers experience and expensive trial and error. Using the rigid-plastic finite element simulations. we design the optimal process conditions, which has a preforming operation. Also the final product configuration of forging has to be designed again in view of metal flow involved in the operation, derived from the finite element simulations. The forged pulley is investigated by checking the hardness distribution and it is noted that distribution has improved to be even and high enough for industrial application.

  • Recentlry, High accuracy and precision are required in various industrial field. To obtain the surface roughness with range from several 10nm to several nm in inner cutting, we need a ultra-precision machine, single diamond tool, cutting condition, and the study of materials. It is very difficult to obtain the mirror surface without new technique. In this paper, Using the new tool holder as well as the ultra precision diamond cutting, we directly processed the inside of an aluminum alloy in order to obtain mirror surface. We have considered the length of tool holder when we design the tool holder. From experimental results, we believe that the new tool holder will improve inner cutting.

Morphological Characteristics of Bambusa vulgaris and the Distribution and Shape of Vascular Bundles therein

  • Bamboo culm comprises internodes and nodes and is tapered from the bottom to the top. Anatomically, bamboo culm comprises vascular bundles and parenchymal base tissue. The gross anatomical structure of a transverse section of any culm internode is determined by the shape, size, arrangement, and number of vascular bundles. The purpose of this research was to examine the morphology of culm and the distribution and shape of vascular bundles in Ampel bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris). Bamboo culms were harvested from the base. Test samples were obtained from a central 2-cm long segment of each internode across the entire length of the culm. Results showed an uneven spread of vascular bundles in the internode cross-section. Transitioning from the outer to the inner layer of the internode, the number of vascular bundles per unit area decreased and their shape was variable. The size of vascular bundles in the middle layer of the internode was greater than that of those in the outer and inner layers. The shape of vascular bundles was circular in the outer layer, which gradually transformed into vertical oval toward the middle layer and horizontal oval toward the inner layer. Vascular bundles were of type III and IV in the bottom of the culm and type III in the middle to the top of the culm.

  • Von Mises stress and compliance distribution was evaluated using a finite element analysis on the anastomosis of an artery with length of 20mm, inner diameter of 4mm, thickness of 0.5mm and a PTFE graft with length of 5.7mm, Inner diameter of 2mm. thickness of 0.2mm. When anastomotic angle was taken as $45^{\circ}$ and inner pressure of $1330\;dyne/mm^2$ was applied inside the 2 conduits. From the analysis results were obtained as follows. (1)Artery diameter increased in both horizontal x and vertical y directions and the magnitude of that in x direction was bigger than in y direction. (2) The compliance was maximum on the anastomosis. especially on that with acute angle. This reduced approaching to the right or left end. (3) The equivalent stress was maximum on top in the y direction and winimum on the nodes around $110^{\circ}$ in circumferential direction from the top. (4) The equivalent stress was maximum in the vicinity of anastomosis with acute angle along the longitudinal direction of the artery. This trend was also observed along the PTFE graft.

  • In this study, the combustion characteristics were investigated with the variation of design factors on multiple slit gas burner. The design factors consist of slit height, width, spacing, and inner length. The combustion characteristics were made analysis of the CO emission and NOx emission by using CO analyzer and NOx analyzer. The lower perimeter to area and the narrow spacing extends the lift-flame limit. The CO emission increases with the increasing perimeter to area ratio at the same condition. The NOx emission is found to be less significant with the port perimeter to area ratio. The flame interference might highly depend on the spacing and port perimeter to area ratio, and it also affects the burner performance.
