A regenerative evaporative cooler has been fabricated and tested for the evaluation of cooling performance. The regenerative evaporative cooler is a kind of indirect evaporative cooler comprised of multiple pairs of dry and wet channels. The air flowing through the dry channels is cooled without any change in the humidity and at the outlet of the dry channel a part of air is redirected to the wet channel where the evaporative cooling takes place. The regenerative evaporative cooler fabricated in this study consists of the multiple pairs of finned channels in counterflow arrangement. The fins and heat transfer plates were made of aluminum and brazed for good thermal connection. Thin porous layer coating was applied to the internal surface of the wet channel to improve surface wettability. The regenerative evaporative cooler was placed in a climate chamber and tested at various operation condition. The cooling performance is found greatly influenced by the evaporation water flow rate. To improve the cooling performance, the evaporation water flow rate needs to be minimized as far as the even distribution of the evaporation water is secured. At the inlet condition of $32^{\circ}C$ and 50%RH, the outlet temperature was measured at $22^{\circ}C$ which is well below the inlet wet-bulb temperature of $23.7^{\circ}C$.
Busan subway transportation system has been established a key role in the society last 20 years. However many people are suffering from hot and humid environment at subway station and platform due to deteriorated ventilation system as well as insufficient air conditioning system in existing stations and platforms. As a result, these systems require revitalization. There is about 5400tons of low temperature underground water is generated from subway stations every day. By using this method and air washer we are trying to lower the temperature. Air washer is commonly used for removing humidity but in this experiment it will be used as air precooling. This research offers result of experiment using air washer system to lower the temperature in large spaces like subway station. The experiment result has shown when L/G was the same, at condition which water spray temperature at $18^{\circ}C$ resulting inlet and outlet temperature difference larger. Also, in the same water spray temperature conditions, larger L/G condition showed a greater temperature difference. LCC evaluation of both system were shown that air washer system of using underground water will save 53% of the initial cost than refrigeration system, and save 75% of operating cost.
Measurements using five real-time particle samplers were compared to measurements using three NRM (National Reference Method system) filter-based samplers(Gravimetric method) at Incheon, Korea, between May and August, 2014. The purpose of this study was to suggest the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) method of each instrument for use in a real-time continuous particle sampler to measure the mass of airborne particles with an aerodynamic diameter less than $2.5{\mu}m$ ($PM_{2.5}$). Five real-time particle samplers of BAM1020, FH62C_14, TEOM, PM-711 and SPM-613 were evaluated by comparing its measured 23 hr average $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations with those measured with NRM filter-based samplers simultaneously. The parameters(e.g. Inlet heating condition, Slope factor, Film response, Intercept, Background, Span value) of the real-time samplers were optimized respectively by conducting test performance evaluation during 7 days in field sampling. For example, inlet heating temperature of TEOM sampler controls $35{\sim}40^{\circ}C$ to minimize the fluctuation of the real-time measurement data and background value of BAM1020 is the key factor affecting the accuracy of $PM_{2.5}$ mass concentration. We classified the $PM_{2.5}$ concentration according to relative humidity (80%) to identify water absorbed in aerosols by measuring the ${\beta}$-ray samplers(BAM1020, FH62C_14) and TEOM. ${\beta}$-ray samplers were not strongly affected by relative humidity that the difference of the average $PM_{2.5}$ concentration was about 5%. On the other hand, The TEOM sampler overestimated $PM_{2.5}$ mass concentration about 15% at low relative humidity (<80%).
An experimental study on the refrigerant-side pressure drop of slit fin-tube heat exchanger has been carried out. A comparison was made between the predictions of previously proposed empirical correlations and experimental data for the pressure drop on design conditions of condenser in micro-fin tube for R22 and its alternatives, R407C (R32/125/134a, 23/25/52 wt.%) and R410A (R32/125, 50/50 wt.%). Experiments were carried out under the conditions of inlet refrigerant temperature of 6$0^{\circ}C$ and mass fluxes varying from 150 to 250 kg/$m^2$s for R22, R407C and R410A. The inlet air conditions are dry bulb temperature of 35$^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 40% and air velocity varying from 0.68 to 1.43 m/s. Experiments show that pressure drop for R410A and R407C were 17.8∼20.2% and 5∼6.8% lower than those of R22 respectively for the degree of subcooling of 5$^{\circ}C$. For the mass fluxes of 200∼250 kg/$m^2$s, the deviation between the experimental and predicted values for the pressure drop was less than $\pm$20% for R22, R407C and R410A.
We proposed an MEA development methodology that accurately measures intrinsic MEA performance while considering the uneven reaction environments formed inside a large-area BP. To facilitate measurement of the inherent MEA performance, we miniaturized the active area of the MEA to 3 cm2, and prepared two MEAs with different ionomer contents of 0.65 and 0.80 (I/C). By simulating the operating conditions of a 100 cm2 BP at the inlet (I), center (C), and outlet (O), the oxygen concentration and relative humidity were determined to be 20.7, 13.8, 11.7%, and 50, 66.1, and 70.1% respectively. We measured the performance and electrochemical analysis of the prepared MEAs under the three simulated conditions. Based on the results of statistical analysis of the evaluated MEA performance data, I/C 0.65 MEA had a higher average performance and lower performance deviation than I/C 0.80 MEA. Hence, it can be concluded that an I/C 0.65 MEA is a more effective MEA for large-area BP. Based on the above research process, we confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed MEA development methodology.
A prototype of the desiccant cooling system with a regenerative evaporative cooler was built and tested for the performance evaluation. The regenerative evaporative cooler is to cool a stream of air using evaporative cooling effect without an inc6rease in the humidity ratio. It is comprised of multiple pairs of dry and wet channels and the evaporation water is supplied only to the wet channels. By redirecting a portion of the air flown out of the dry channel into the wet channel, the air can be cooled down to a temperature lower than its inlet wet-bulb temperature at the outlet end of the dry channels. Incorporating a regenerative evaporative cooler eliminates the need for deep dehumidification in the desiccant rotor that is necessary to achieve low air temperature in the system with a direct evaporative cooler. Subsequently, the regenerative evaporative cooler enables the use of low temperature heat source to regenerate the dehumidifier permitting the desiccant cooling system more beneficial compared with other thermal driven air conditioners. At the ARI condition with the regeneration temperature of $60^{\circ}C$, the prototype showed the cooling capacity of 4.4 kW and COP of 0.75.
The efficiency and life time of the Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) system is critically affected by incoming gas with humidity which should be maintained properly at normal operating conditions. Typically, incoming gas of automotive fuel cell is humidified by external humidifier but the characteristics of device is rarely reported. In this study, characteristics of water transfer in the membrane humidifiers have been experimentally investigated for flow rates of gas and for different flow arrangement under steady state condition. At first, capability of mass transfer through the membrane is examined at constant temperature. Then, the temperature distribution effect on the capability of mass transfer is tested over various inlet conditions. In summary, this research presents the mass transfer capability of hydrophilic membrane over various operating conditions.
The objective of this study is to provide numerical and experimental data that can be used to investigate the performance characteristics of a flat plate fin-tube evaporator in household and commercial refrigerators under frosting conditions. Computer simulations with variations of operating conditions such as air inlet temperature, relative humidity, and geometries were performed to find out optimal design parameters of a fin-tube evaporator for household and commercial refrigerators. The tube-by-tube method was used in the simulation and the frost growth model was considered under frosting conditions. The developed analytical model predicted the decreasing rates of heat transfer capacity and air flow rate ratio within ${\pm}$10% compared to the experimental results for a refrigerator under real operating conditions. As a result, the frost thickness at $3^{\circ}C$ & 80% is increased 40% than that of $-3^{\circ}C$ & 80%, and the frost thickness at $3^{\circ}C$ & 90% is increased 30% than that of $3^{\circ}C$ & 60%. Accordingly, the operating time of the evaporator in the refrigerator was reduced with the increase of the decreasing rate of air flow rate ratio at each condition.
Hot air drying is a method that let moistures evaporate by heat exchange between heating air and dry target. This way is dominating more than about 70% of dryers that the use extent is wide fairly, and is established in domestic than dryer that use conduction or radiation etc. Most of research about drying had been emphasized in size of device through analysis for these dry phenomenon plain, heating topology, and aspect of form and so on by dry target's special quality, and research about device development or waste heat withdrawal technology in energy utilization efficiency side is slight real condition. Therefore, in this study, Investigated numerically about thermal efficiency elevation that is leaned against as that change the temperature of inlet and outlet in heat exchanger of the hot air drying tower.

In tradition, there have been two kinds of drying methods, which are sun drying and artificial drying. The sun drying method which has been adopted traditionally has been replaced by the hot-air drying method which is one of the most general methods of artificial drying, with its simple drying system, low initial cost of drying plant, and easy operating method. But the hot-air drying method has some defects; (1) much energy loss happens due to the discharge of hot air during the drying process, (2) control of drying rate is not easy on account of changing relative humidity of inlet air for uniform hot air temperature, (3) high temperature of foods in drying process brings about the production of low-grade drying products. Vacuum drying takes advantage of energy saving and mass production because it reduces the drying time by increasing the drying rate under low temperature condition. The aim of this paper is to develop the low temperature vacum dryer, with low initial investments and operating costs, easy operating method and trouble-free operation.
