Printing of Nano-silver Inks with Ink-jet Technology and Surface Treatment (잉크젯 기술자 표면처리 기술을 이용한 나노 실버 잉크 프린팅)

  • In this study, characteristics of silver ink-jet printing were investigated under various substrate treatments such as substrate heating, hydrophobic coating, and ultraviolet(UV)/ozone soaking. Fluorocarbon(FC) film was spin-coated on the polyimide (PI) film substrate to obtain a hydrophobic surface. Although hydrophobicity of the FC film could reduce the diameter of the printed droplets, the singlet images printed on the FC film surface showed irregularities in the pattern size and the position of the printed droplet along with droplet merging phenomenon. The proposed UV/ozone soaking of the FC film improved the uniformity of the pattern size and the droplet position after printing and substrate heating was very effective way in preventing droplet merging. By heating of the substrate after UV/ozone soaking of the coated FC film, silver conductive lines of 78-116 ${\mu}m$ line were successfully printed at low substrate temperatures of $40^{\circ}C$.

  • Aquesous carbon nanotubes (CNTs) solutions were prepared using SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfonate) and NADDBS (sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate). Our inks are found to have the viscosity of 1-2 cps. In addition, the surface tension of inks inversely decreased with increasing surfactant concentration and then saturated at critical micelle concentration (CMC). The low surface tension at CMC gave rise to lower contact angles on Indium layers, resulting in larger printable feature sizes. In the fabrication of cold cathode, jet-printing is feasible to modify and scale up the cathode structures. These feasibilities could contribute jet-printing method to be more adaptable for making large-area cold cathodes.

  • An EHD (Electro-Hydro-Dynamic) jet for electrostatic inkjet head shows advantages to print micro-size patterns using various inks because it can generate sub-micron droplets and can use highly viscous inks. Thus, many researchers in industrial fields are concerned about the EHD jet in these days. Since the basic principle of the EHD jet is to form a droplet from an apex of meniscus at the end of the nozzle, the ejection mechanism can be changed by the shape of the meniscus. The stable ejection of the droplet is greatly affected by the shape of the meniscus which is also influenced by surface characteristics of the nozzle, electric potential and ink properties. Experiments have been performed using the nozzles with hydrophilic and hydrophobic coatings in this study. The hydrophobic nozzle forms the stable droplets in wider range of the electric potential than the hydrophilic nozzle does.

Inkjet 공정에서 발생하는 TIPS Pentacene Crystalline Morphology 변화에 따른 OTFT 특성 연구

  • 본 논문에서는 Normal ink jetting 공법으로 OTFT를 제작할 때 coffee stain effect에 의해서 반도체 소자의 특성이 저하되는 것을 극복하기 위해서 동일한 위치에 동일한 부피로 Droplet을 형성하는 Multiple ink jetting 공법을 통해 TIPS pentacene 결정의 Morphology와 전기적 특성이 어떻게 변화하는지 알아 보았다. Multiple ink jetting의 drop 횟수가 증가할수록 coffee stain effect에 의해서 형성된 가운데 영역의 Dendrite grain이 점점 작아지다가 7 Drops 이후로는 Big grain 만 남게 되었다. Active layer의 표면 Roughness는 drop 횟수가 증가할수록 낮아지다가 일정 count 이후로는 다시 높아지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 전계 이동도(mobility)는 drop 횟수가 증가할수록 커지다가 일정 count 이후로는 saturation되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. Multiple ink jetting에 의해서 만들어진 OTFT 소자의 전계 이동도(mobility)는 1 drop과 10 drops에서 각각 0.0059, 0.036 cm2/Vs 로 6배 정도 차이가 있었다. 이것은 첫 drop에 의해 만들어진 가운데 Dendrite grain 영역이 Multiple ink jetting을 반복하면서 점점 작아지게 되어 사라지고 두꺼운 Grain 영역만 남게 된 것으로 판단된다. Vth 와 On/Off ratio는 1 drop과 10 drops에서 각각 -3 V, -2 V 그리고 $3.3{\times}10^3$, $1.0{\times}10^4$를 보였다. OTFT의 substrate로 Flexible한 polyethersulfone (PES) 기판을 사용하였고, 절연체로 Spin coating된 Poly-4-vinylphenol (PVP)가 사용되었으며, Gate 및 Source/Drain 전극은 Au를 50 nm 두께로 증착하였다. Channel의 width와 length는 각각 100 um, 40 um 였고, Gate 전극 위에 Active layer를 형성한 Bottom gate 구조로 제작되었다. Ink jet으로 제작된 TIPS pentacene의 결정성은 x-ray diffraction (XRD)와 광학 현미경으로 분석하였고 Thickness profile은 알파스텝 측정기를 이용하였으며, OTFT의 전기적 특성은 Keithley-4,200을 사용하여 측정하였다.

  • Sonic and supersonic jets include many complicated flow physics associated with shock waves, shear layers, vortices as well as strong interactions among them, and have a variety of engineering applications. Much has been learned from the previous researches on the sonic and supersonic jets but quantitative assessment of these jets is still uneasy due to the high velocity of flow, compressibility effects, and sometimes flow unsteadiness. In the present study, the sonic jets issuing from a convergent nozzle were measured by PIV and Schlieren optical techniques. Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) with Olive oil particles of $1{\mu}m$ was employed to obtain the velocity field of the jets, and the black-white and color Schlieren images were obtained using Xe ramp. A color filter of Blue-Green-Red has been designed for the color Schlieren and obtained from an Ink jet printer. In experiments, two types of sonic nozzles were used at different operating pressure ratios(NPR). The obtained images clearly showed the major features of the jets such as Mach disk, barrel shock waves, jet boundaries, etc.

Improvement of Ink Jet Printing Paper Quality with Oxidized Starch Ester and Additives (산화에스테르전분과 첨가제를 활용한 잉크젯용지의 품질개선)

  • The effect of esterified starch as surface sizing agent for inkjet printing paper has been evaluated and compared with oxidized starch. Also the influence of various additives including cationic poly-DADMAC, stearic acrylic copolymer, calcium chloride, and GCC was examined. Results showed that starch ester gave higher ink density than oxidized starch. Addition of poly-DADMAC improved water fastness. In general, low molecular weight poly-DADMAC performed better than high molecular weight one, and it was attributed to the fact that it gave more uniform film forming characteristics in surface sizing. Use of styrene acrylic acid copolymer increased hydrophobicity of the paper surface, but it did not increase the ink density. Use of GCC and calcium chloride had only marginal effect on printing quality.

A Study on Optimization of Inkjet-based IDE Pattern Process for Impedance Sensor (임피던스 센서 제작을 위한 잉크젯 기반 패턴 IDE 적층공정 최적화 연구)

  • At present, it is possible to manufacture electrodes down to several micrometers (~ ㎛) using inkjet printing technology owing to the development of precision ejection heads. Inkjet printing technology is also used in the manufacturing of bio-sensors, electronic sensors, and flexible displays. To reduce the difference between the electrode design/simulation performance and actual printing pattern performance, it is necessary to analyze and optimize the processable area of the ink material, which is a fluid. In this study, process optimization was conducted to manufacture an IDE pattern and fabricate an impedance sensor. A total of 25 IDE patterns were produced, with five for each lamination process. Electrode line width and height changes were measured by stacking the designed IDE pattern with a nanoparticle-based conductive ink multilayer. Furthermore, the optimal process area for securing a performance close to the design result was analyzed through impedance and capacitance. It was observed that the increase in the height of stack layer 4 was the lowest at 4.106%, and the increase in capacitance was measured to be the highest at 44.08%. The proposed stacking process pattern, which is optimized in terms of uniformity, reproducibility, and performance, can be efficiently applied to bio-applications such as biomaterial sensing with an impedance sensor.

A Study on the Black Ink Characterization for Ink Jet Printer (잉크젯 프린터의 검정 잉크 특성화 연구)

  • 칼라 프린터 장치에서는 색을 표현할 수 있는 영역이 사용자가 눈으로 색을 인지하는 영역보다 작다. 또한 잉크의 특성 및 프린터 장치의 하드웨어적 특성이 비선형적인 성질을 갖는다. 때문에 원본 이미지를 프린터로 출력하면 원본과는 다른 왜곡된 칼라의 이미지가 출력된다. 그래서 원색을 재현하려는 다양한 방법으로 잉크의 조절, 프린터 장비의 특성화 및 재현 영역 일치화 기법 등이 연구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 잉크젯 프린터의 K9black) 잉크와 CMY(Cyan, megenta, yellow) 잉크와의 관계를 살펴보고 이 특성을 이용해 검정 잉크를 조절하는 방법인 BPA(Black Printer Algorithm)를 구현하였다. BPA를 사용하면 색조(contrast)의 향상뿐만 아니라 C, M, Y를 K로 대치하기 때문에 경제적인 효과도 기대할 수 있다. 결과에서는 성능 테스트와 성능 향상을 위한 방법에 대해 논의하였다.

Fabrication of Inkjet Printed Strain Gauge Using PEDOT:PSS (PEDOT:PSS기반 잉크젯 프린팅 스트레인 게이지의 제작)

  • This paper presents the Inkjet-printed strain gauge using PEDOT:PSS. The strain gauge (width 0.6 mm, length 20 mm, thickness $0.3{\mu}m$) was printed on the PET film using PEDOT:PSS ink. The resistance variation of the fabricated strain gauge was measured by the digital multi-meter with the displacement range of -4 to 10 mm. As the measured result, resistance variation (${\Delta}R/R_0$) has approximately 0.75%, linearity of 99.87%. The fabricated strain gauge is expected to the various applications such as tape type pressure sensor, PMS(pressure mapping sensor), wearable devices.

Color matching using dot gain and intensity compensation for different substrates (점이득 보정과 명도 보정을 이용한 서로 다른 매질 사이의 색정합)

  • In a drop-on-demand thermal ink-jet printer, the dot size of an ink droplet expelled from a printer depends on the absorption of the paper. This causes severe differences between output images on the different paper materials. In this paper, the color matching algorithm for different papers is proposed. To achieve corresponding color reproduction, dot gain compensatio nbased on saturation was applied to predict color reproduction on a printer. If the dot gain of pigment increases, the white portion of paper decreases while the saturation value increases monotonically. As the results of dot gain compensation, intensity change may appear. Therefore, an intensity compensation without any hue variation is followed to match the colors of different subtrates.
